Abstract: purpose: to determine the frequency of hydatiform mole in tissues obtained by curettage. methods: a cross-sectional, prospective and descriptive conducted on patients who underwent curretage due to a diagnosis of abortion or hydatiform mole whose material was sent for pathological examination. we excluded women who did not accept to participate and refused to sign the free informed consent form. we studied the following variables: pathological findings, age, race, number of pregnancies and previous abortions, gestational age at diagnosis, quantitative serum beta fraction of human chorionic gonadotropin and ultrasound findings. the data were compared to the to histological diagnosis, considered to be the gold standard. data were stored and analyzed in microsoft excel? software and the epi-info program, version 6.0 (statcalc) and the results are presented as frequency (percentage) or mean±standard deviation. the χ2 test was used to determine the association between qualitative variables and the level of significance was set at p<0.005. results: a total of 515 curettage procedures were performed, 446 of which comprised the sample. the frequency of hydatiform mole was 2.2% (ten cases). the mean age of the patients with a mole was 31±10 years, most patients were white and multiparous and had no history of previous abortions, but there was no significant association between these variables. the pregnancy loss occurred early in patients with and without a mole and the most common complaints in both groups were vaginal bleeding and cramps in the lower abdomen. quantitative determination of human chorionic gonadotropin was performed in 422 cases (413 with and 9 without a hydatiform mole). the levels of the hormone were higher than 100,000 miu/ml in 1.9% of the patients without a hydatiform mole and in 44.45% of the patients with the disease (p=0.00004). all patients with this hormonal level had an ultrasound suspicion of hydatiform mole and one of them also had a clinical su

Dental Press Journal of Orthodontics , 2012,
Abstract: Angle Class II, division 2, malocclusion is characterized by a Class II molar relation associated with retroclined or vertical positioning of the upper incisors and in general an overbite. This clinical case was presented to the Brazilian Board of Orthodontics and Facial Orthopedics (BBO) as part of the requirements for becoming a BBO Diplomate .

Iheringia. Série Zoologia , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S0073-47212006000100005
Abstract: the present paper aims to describe the temporal and spatial distribution of the composition and abundance of decapoda larvae in the shallow waters around arvoredo marine biological reserve. stomatopod occurrence is also discussed. plankton samples were collected at five sites around the arvoredo island every two months for one year from may, 2002 to april, 2003. thirty-nine morphotypes, 11 genus and 4 species (artemesia longinaris bate, 1888, hexapanopeus schmitii rathbun, 1930, menippe nodifrons stimpson, 1859 and pleoticus muelleri bate, 1888) were identified, among them only two morphotypes of stomatopoda larvae, and the remainder decapoda larvae. brachyuran zoeae were the most abundant group and they were well represented by portunidae and xanthidae zoeae. lucifer sp. and caridea zoeae were the most abundant non-brachyuran taxa. decapod larvae were observed to occur at all sampling sites, however the spatial distribution demonstrated a general tendency to greater abundance and diversity at the southern sites of the island. decapoda and stomatopoda larvae occurred throughout the year, showing that reproduction is continuous, but that larval input in planktonic community was significantly higher during autumn and spring.

Abstract: in this work we develop a research in order to deepen our understanding of the operation of democracy within the solidarity economy. while a segment of academic literature production associations oppose the productive capitalist enterprise and deepen democracy, the other side rejects those possibilities. denying this binary, through qualitative analysis, working with nine groups in the metropolitan area of ??porto alegre, we conclude that there is some hybridism in relation to these practices with a weak and non-deterministic trend to vertizalization and hierarchization that is caused by several factors.

Abstract: This text discusses the rural context and Rural Education Policies in Santa Catarina, Brazil. The discussion draws on joint research conducted by researchers from the Federal University of Santa Catarina and the University of the Santa Catarina Plateau. The term “Education for Rural Populations”, a recent term in Brazil, has a politico-pedagogical connotation engendered in the National Movement for Rural Education to distinguish it from the concept of “rural education”, which prevails in Brazilian education. Rural education ignores the diversity, specificity and complexity of the subjects who live and work in the countryside. The Movement for Rural Education seeks to recognize and strengthen the enhances their identities. However, many challenges emerge when it comes to local implementation of the formal achievements of the Movement in the context of the Union. This paper gives special attention to the analysis of two main challenges: the cultural context of rural populations and the operationalization of a state policy to ensure the right to education of rural populations. Concerning the first challenge, it is observed that there is a cultural ethos in which one can identify different values and principles that guide choices, life projects, conceptions of space rural / urban, that have a big impact, for example, in the succession of generations in family units. In relation to the second challenge, it is observed that in addition to technical limitations in the management of public affairs, conformation of the political-legal Brazilian state acts in opposition to the social realization of the right to education. Abstract: cleft lip/palate is the one of the most prevalent congenital craniofacial deformities. according to data from the brazilian institute of statistics and studies carried out at the craniofacial anomaly rehabilitation hospital in bauru/sp, cleft lip/palate occurs in one out of every 650 births in brazil. cleft lip/palate may result in impairments that stigmatize the individual and have an impact on health, emotions and social interaction. treatment requires children with cleft lip/palate to be monitored from birth to young adulthood in order to avoid further functional, aesthetic and psychological impact. the present literature review offers reflections on the organization of the work process of multi-professional, interdisciplinary care in rehabilitation and health promotion directed at patients with cleft lip/palate. there are gaps in the integration between the specialties that make up the three levels of care in the brazilian public health care system and there is a need for the government to ensure reference and counter-reference services.

The objective of this explorative and descriptive study was to describe the rates and reasons for intrapartum transfers from home to hospital among women assisted by nurse midwives, and the outcomes of those deliveries. The sample consisted of eleven women giving birth and their newborns, from January 2005 to December 2009. Data was collected from the maternal and neonatal records and was analyzed using descripti
Privileged Mobility in an Age of Globality

Abstract: By 2050, the world’s population of international migrants is estimated to top 400 million. A small but growing number of those migrants are leaving well-developed, affluent countries best known for receiving immigrants to settle in less well-developed countries better known for sending migrants. These migrants of relative privilege, many of them retirees, are motivated primarily by a desire to enhance their quality of life. Although this migratory flow receives much less attention than more familiar, and reverse, movements of laborers or refugees, its implications for the destination sites, sites of origin, and study of international migration generally are significant. This article will examine the contemporary border crossing of privileged migrants, the economic, political and cultural stakes for the countries and individuals involved, and the implications of incorporating privileged mobility into the study of global migration and transnationalism.
