Parando de beber: estágios de mudan?a vividos por ex-alcoolistas

Abstract: this study describes how ex-alcoholic adults have experienced change stages in drinking cessation, at stages of contemplation, preparation, action and maintenance. five ex-alcoholics were interviewed about factors that hampered and helped the change, and coping strategies used for every stage. exposition to aversive situations associated to drinking was reported as the strongest helpful factor in preparation stage, as the social support was in action and maintenance stages. benefits associated to drinking were the most relevant factors that hampered change in all stages. the most important coping strategies related were asking for social support and avoidance from risk situations to drink. implications to intervention and new researches are discussed.

Abstract: the purpose of this study was to identify sources of satisfaction and dissatisfaction toward an occupational stress management program, which was based on a cognitive-behavioural model. two hundred and ten hospital workers attended 24 sessions targeted to development of individual strategies of coping to stress, through group dynamics, role playing, relaxation, cognitive restructuring, problems solution and self monitoring. the participant's verbal report were registered in the end of each session and submitted to content analysis. the main sources of satisfaction were toward techniques and instruments used, themes discussed, social support, learning of social skills, pleasant feelings, and development of problem solution skills. the main source of dissatisfaction was related to the short duration of the sessions. the qualitative analysis of the program revealed a therapeutic process potentially favourable to positive impact on health, which could be verified in future studies.

Abstract: O objetivo deste estudo foi identificar fontes de satisfa o e insatisfa o para com um programa em manejo de estresse ocupacional baseado no modelo cognitivo-comportamental. Duzentos e dez trabalhadores de um hospital participaram de 24 sess es dirigidas ao desenvolvimento de estratégias individuais de enfrentamento ao estresse, através de vivências, ensaio comportamental, relaxamento, reestrutura o cognitiva, solu o de problemas e automonitoramento. Os relatos verbais dos participantes foram registrados ao fim de cada sess o e submetidos a análise de conteúdo. As principais fontes de satisfa o foram em rela o a: técnicas e instrumentos usados, temas discutidos, suporte social, aprendizagem de habilidades sociais, sentimentos agradáveis e desenvolvimento de habilidades de solu o de problemas. A principal fonte de insatisfa o foi relativa à curta dura o das sess es. A análise qualitativa do programa revelou um processo terapêutico potencialmente favorecedor de impacto positivo sobre a saúde, o que poderá ser verificado em estudos futuros.

Abstract: this study describes effects of an occupational stress intervention based on needs assessment in seven firefighters. group interviews were conducted to identify occupational stressors, coping strategies and stress symptoms. based on evidences that the targetgroup presented a restrict coping repertoire and many stress symptoms, it was implemented a 12-sessions intervention, consisted by information, relaxation, assertive training, problem solution skills, time management and cognitive restructuring. pre and post-test measures were obtained for immunity, blood pressure, and verbal responses of stress, general health and coping. the comparison of pre and post-measures showed stress and somatic symptoms decrease; and self-efficacy and diastolic blood pressure increase. organizational or combined interventions were recommended.

Abstract: the aim of this article is to present procedures to implement and evaluate individual focused occupational stress management interventions, based on literature of the area of occupational health psychology and program evaluation. intervention, implementation and evaluation planning are discussed, based on the social science research cycle, which stages include needs evaluation, search of theoretical basis, definition of goals, variables, instruments, design, participants, procedures, program implementation and data collection, analysis and results interpretation, publishing results and formulation of new questions. future perspectives for program evaluation and possible gains resulted from the alliance between this area and occupational stress management interventions are discussed.

Abstract: this paper describes intermediate goals reached and participants' attitudes toward an occupational stress management program. the participants were 74 employees from a university. forty-two employees attended a multi-modal stress management intervention program and 32 attended a social skills training program. data were collected by observational measures during the sessions. the results revealed that intermediate goals were similarly reached in both interventions. additionally, participants from both interventions perceived several benefits in the program, classified in change in cognitive and behavioral features, experiences related to group interaction or circumscribed to the session and positive appraisal toward the intervention with non-specific focus. further studies should include new process indicators.

Abstract: social skills are recognized as protection factor in the human development course. as a result, programs targeted at development of social skills have been done to promote mental health. this article describes programs of social skills training with brazilian samples for primary, secondary and tertiary prevention. participants, design, evaluation instruments, intervention techniques and results were focused. search on journals, lilacs base data and books written by research groups identified 17 intervention programs. the literature showed the predominance of programs in group, in clinical and educational contexts, with pre-experimental designs, and use of cognitive-behavioral techniques. results found are promising toward improvement in social performance. suggestions to planning of future interventions are presented.

Abstract: this paper presents some directives for implementing and evaluating emotional and behavioral problem programs for children and adolescents, aiming at the transformation of research technology into community services. the following are discussed: the conceptual framework of preventive interventions in mental healthcare, the theoretical bases of preventive programs, the assessment of needs and community participation during the planning and implementation of the program, the replication of preventive programs that were empirically supported, and the assessment of the process and long-term results of these programs. as a conclusion, a research agenda for the advancement of this field in brazil is provided.
