Silicosis with bilateral spontaneous pneumothorax
Fotedar Sanjay,Chaudhary Dhruva,Singhla Vikas,Narang Rajat
Lung India , 2010,
Abstract: Presentation with simultaneous bilateral pneumothorax is uncommon and usually in the context of secondary spontaneous pneumothorax.The association of pneumothorax and silicosis is infrequent and most cases are unilateral. Bilateral pneumothorax in silicosis is very rare with just a few reports in medical literature.
Upwelling shadows at Mejillones Bay (northern Chilean coast): a remote sensing in situ analysis
Marín,Víctor H.; Delgado,Luisa E.; Escribano,Rubén;
Investigaciones marinas , 2003, DOI: 10.4067/S0717-71782003000200005
Abstract: upwelling shadows are high temperature regions within coastal upwelling systems. in this article its dynamics is described at mejillones bay, in the northern chilean coast, using satellite images and in situ current data. a conceptual model relating the generation and breakdown of the shadow to the bifurcated upwelling occurring outside the bay is proposed
El escritor, las sombras y la Patria: En esta dulce tierra de Andrés Rivera
Estudios de filosof?-a pr??ctica e historia de las ideas , 2007,
Abstract: the novel en esta dulce tierra sets up a historical pretense that disintegrates into several endings. the title is an irony, since terrible events take place in this "sweet land." it refers to the literature of the xix century, especially to the founding romances such as that of josé mármol's amalia. the nation is envisioned as a closed space relegated by despotism to the asylum, the morgue, the jail, the basement. the characters live an illusion moving from north to south. if sarmiento invokes the shadow of facundo, rivera evokes some of his own shadows in cufré, doubles in different times and spaces. the narration of the argentine history is a story of defeat: civilizarion's. the historical image is pessimistic: the world is ill, blood thirsty and violent. facundo is the shadow of barbarity, the emblem of the american nature, the produce of the riojan plains. cufré is the shadow of an "educated" class whose trajectory draws a paradox. both are victims of a land conceived in one case as a barbarous nature, and in the other as sinister homeland. power acts in this land as a second nature with the taste of death.
Classifica??o de sombra em imagens orbitais e aéreas utilizando uma matriz de co-ocorrência modificada
Centeno, Jorge Antonio Silva;Pacheco, Admilson da Penha;
Boletim de Ciências Geodésicas , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S1982-21702011000100005
Abstract: although shadows are considered useful for the identification of objects that rise up from the ground, they may made the extraction of information difficult when they hide lower objects. in this paper we introduce the conceptual development and show examples of the application of a method for the segmentation of shadows in satellite and aerial imagery that is based on the analysis of the co-occurrence matrix. the co-occurrence matrix shows the relationship between a pixel and its neighborhood, which allows to identify dark and uniform areas that correspond to shadows. taking this in mind, a method is proposed to analyse the main diagonal of the co-occurrence matrix and to identify the cluster that is related to shadows. the mentioned segmentation enables to obtain the threshold along the main diagonal. a contextual function can be derived from the best perpendicular line to the main diagonal of the co-occurrence matrix that crossed the diagonal at the threshold point. tests with aerial and satellite images are presented to illustrate the method. it is shown that the method is adaptive. it can be used in 8 bits images as well as extended to higher radiometric resolutions and it is not affected by the atmospheric contribution.
Sarcoidose: Uma forma rara de apresenta??o
Cemlyn-Jones,Jessica; Gamboa,Fernanda; Teixeira,Luísa; Bernardo,Jo?o; Cordeiro,Carlos Robalo;
Revista Portuguesa de Pneumologia , 2009,
Abstract: the clinical presentation of sarcoidosis is diverse and in over 90% of patients there is pulmonary involvement. the most common features of the radiographic findings at the time of diagnosis are bilateral hilar lymphadenopathy and pulmonary infiltration. the authors report the case of a young female patient who presented with multiple bilateral nodular shadows on chest radiograph. surgical biopsy revealed non-necrotizing granulomas with occasional multinucleated giant cells compatible with sarcoidosis. al-though this was a case of stage iii pulmonary disease, the patient was asymptomatic, lung function tests were normal and there were no signs of extrathoracic involvement. spontaneous remission occurred without treatment as shown on high resolution ct scan follow-up, one year later.

The Global Solar Radiation in the Southern Region of Ecuador  [PDF]
O. H. Alvarez, T. E. Montano
Open Access Library Journal (OALib Journal) , 2019, DOI: 10.4236/oalib.1105183
In this work an approach to the theoretical solar radiation in the South Region of Ecuador is presented, using the Hottel Model ([1] [2]), considering the cloudiness and the topography Shadows. The maps of Global Solar Radiation are shown for the months of January, August and Annual one, considering the heights over the middle sea level extracted of the Digital Elevation Model. This work will allow specialists and engineers to know the most favorable areas for the location of photovoltaic or photothermic plants in the southern region of Ecuador. The effects have been analyzed by the orography and the methods used were discussed. The role of the orography is analyzed to improve the values’ product of the modeling of the solar radiation. Conclusions and recommendations are given.

Frohn,Marc; Rojas,Mario;
ARQ (Santiago) , 2012, DOI: 10.4067/S0717-69962012000100013
Abstract: almost immaterial (mirrors, led bulbs and tiny motors that were barely 23 kg), this shadow gallery poses questions about the use of different resources, its scarcity and its abundance.
SSV3D: Simulador de Sombras Vectoriales por Radiación Solar sobre Objetos Tridimensionales
Gómez,S.; Quirós,C.;
Información tecnológica , 2005, DOI: 10.4067/S0718-07642005000400012
Abstract: ssv3d is presented as a graphic computer tool developed on the three-dimensional platform of autocad 2004, which simulates direct solar radiation by measuring and vectorial tracing of shadow outlines on illuminated plans of the 3d model evaluated. the analytical results of this tool were tested during its' development by comparing its' results with those obtained in the formula of a calculus sheet, and graphic results were checked comparing these to the shadows obtained by simulation using physical models in a heliodon (french technology) and by the render of autocad. the ssv3d simulator responded satisfactorily to the requirements for the study of solar protection systems which had been determined in previous research.
