Alternative Usage of Raw Material and Fuel in Cement Plants: Case Study

Abstract: Turkish Cement Sector uses industrial and domestic wastes as alternative fuels or raw materials in licensed facilities. Increasing use of alternative fuels and raw materials is very important in terms of eliminating environmental pollution, saving natural material resources and energy. Alternative fuels can generally be gathered under the groups of sewage sludge, waste oil, worn out tires, solvent and paints. As for alternative raw materials, they can be evaluated undermine waste, heat treatment waste, construction waste groups. The aim of this study is to evaluate the use of alternative raw materials and fuels and their environmental benefits. For this purpose, in a cement plant selected as a case study, wastes accepted between 2013 and 2015, pre-acceptance analyzes, quantities of alternative raw materials and fuels used, and their financial impacts are examined. Iron scent, grid, casting sand and phosphogypsum are recycled as an alternative raw material in the cement plant in accordance with quality parameters. The use of alternative raw materials resulted in savings totaling 7.031.998 TL for the plant. As alternative fuel, sewage sludge is used. The financial benefit of sewage sludge usage to the plant is 200.514.450 TL.
An investigation on the soil stabilization with waste tyres materials in granular soils

Abstract: The aim of this investigation is to research the improvement of sandy soils with additive materials. California Bearing Ratio (CBR) is commonly used to determine the characteristics of sandy soils which are improved by using additives. The CBR test estimates behavior of subbase and granular layers for flexible superstructures. Waste shredded tires are used as additives in accordance with the purpose of this study. A great majority of materials, which are considered as wastes in the world, consist of recyclable materials. Recycling these materials is imperative for being able to preserve environmental and natural balance, minimizing the damage inflicted upon nature and also for the country’s economy. The improvement of ground with additive materials has been widely used since it is more economical than other stabilization methods. Recently, usage of industrial waste materials as additive materials has become popular. Investigations on utilization of waste tires in geotechnical engineering are being carried not only in our country but also in the rest of the world.

Abstract: En México el teatro chicano es prácticamente desconocido. Mientras en Estados Unidos logró hacer época aunque fuera por pocos a os, y sólo entre ciertos sectores, aquí es un secreto conocido únicamente por una parte de los iniciados en el arte teatral independiente, a pesar de que sus obras han sido representadas en distintas partes de la República Mexicana por las compa ías teatrales pertenecientes a ese movimiento y por grupos de artistas mexicanos. Esta manifestación de lo que he dado en llamar el México errante formado por quienes teniendo raíces étnicas y culturales al sur del río Bravo nacieron en Estados Unidos es la única de las artes que tuvo desde el principio objetivos políticos, por encima de los estéticos. De hecho, no se trata de un arte que se politizó, sino de una manifestación escénica creada para servir a los fines políticos del movimiento chicano en los a os sesenta. Sin embargo, no se trata de un invento de Luis Valdez, el paradigmático dramaturgo, actor, director y creador de El Teatro Campesino, la compa ía más famosa del movimiento escénico chicano. Sin restarle méritos, Valdez tuvo, en todo caso, la genialidad de retomar todo lo que sus antecesores mexicanos y espa oles habían realizado, e incorporar a ello las formas más vanguardistas de la escena teatral mundial en la década de los sesenta.
Interphalangeal Hair Distribution on the Hands and Feet in Relation to Age, Job Type and Gender amongst the Effiks and Ibibios of South Nigeria

Abstract: The aim of this study was to ascertain the influence of differences in age, job type and gender on distribution of interphalangeal hair of the Effiks in comparism to the Ibibios using 500 subjects comprising 250 Efiks and 250 Ibibios aged 18-40 years. With the aid of a hand lens, the pattern and frequency of hair distribution on the proximal, middle and distal phalanges were examined. Proximal phalangeal hair on the hand was absent in 40 (16%) Efiks and 35 (14%) Ibibios while, hair on the toes was absent in 35 (14%) Efiks and 55 (22%) Ibibios. The highest frequency hair distribution on the hands of the Efiks was 28% on finger pattern 2-3-4 of proximal phalanges while the least was found in finger patterns 1-2, 1-2-3-4, 2-3-5, 2-4-5 and 4-5, having 2% each. For the toes, the highest frequency hair distribution was 26% on toe pattern 1-2-3-4 while the least was 2% on toe patterns 1-3-4 and 1-4. The highest frequency hair distribution on the hands of the Ibibios was 30% on finger pattern 2-3-4 on proximal phalanges while the least was 2% in finger patterns 2-3, 3, 3-4-5 and 4-5. For their toes, the highest frequency hair distribution was 22% in toe pattern 1-2-3-4-5 and least frequent in toe patterns 1-2, 2, 2-3 and 3 with 2% each. Middle phalangeal hair was present in only one subject (a male Ibibio) of the entire population. Hair was absent on the distal phalanges. Age was not a factor in the distribution but individual’s sex and job type had effect on hair distribution on the phalanges.
Determination of Land Data of Ergene Basin (Turkey) by Planning Geographic Information Systems

Abstract: Geographic Information Systems (GIS) provide to gather environmental, legal and positional whole data pertaining to land. GIS is used to make future plans with the maps formed by digitizing informations gathered from land data. In the study, positional data pertaining to Ergene Basin where is chosen as the area of study are first processed into GIS medium and then thematic maps of the region are formed. It is aimed with the maps prepared within the context of the study to form a base in making further plans for basins.
Supporting Self-efficacy and Learner Autonomy in Relation to Academic Success in EFL Classrooms (A Case Study)

Abstract: This research was conducted for revealing the missing point of the discussions related to foreign language teaching and learning in Turkey. This study intended to investigate the relationship between self-efficacy and learner autonomy, self-efficacy and academic success, learner autonomy and academic success, and these two concepts and academic success. Also, it was aimed to explore the effect of self-efficacy on academic success, the effect of learner autonomy on academic success and the effect of self-efficacy and learner autonomy on academic success. The study was applied to 250 preparatory level students at Gaziantep, Zirve, n nü, Sel uk and Karatay Universities in 2010-2011 academic year. The data were collected through Self-Efficacy Questionnaire (SEQ) and Autonomous Learner Questionnaire (ALQ) and analyzed by SPSS 19.0. The analysis of the data revealed that there was a positive relationship between self-efficacy and learner autonomy (r= .667 p>.01), self-efficacy and academic success (r=.597 p>.01), and learner autonomy and academic success (r=.506 p>.01).

Bilateral Simultaneous Heterotopic Ossification of the Reflected Head of Rectus Femoris Muscle: A Case Report and Review of the Literature

Abstract: Lamellar bone formation in an abnormal location is defined as heterotopic ossification. It commonly occurs around the hip joint and most often involves the abductor muscles. It is a benign condition; however, its etiology remains largely unknown. Most previously reported cases have been due to trauma or intramuscular hemorrhage. In this paper, we present a case of bilateral heterotopic ossification of the reflected head of rectus femoris muscle without antecedent trauma or any other known cause, as the first and unique case in the literature. She was treated by excision of the right symptomatic bony mass via a modified Smith-Petersen approach. Postoperatively, she received 75?mg indomethacin daily for six weeks. She was pain-free and obtained full range of motion 3 weeks after the first intervention. 1. Introduction Lamellar bone formation in an abnormal location is defined as heterotopic ossification. It is first described by Patin in 1962 [1]. It is a benign condition; however, its etiology remains largely unknown. The most common cause is trauma [2]. Although it is a self-limiting condition, it can cause significant morbidity, as restriction of range of motion, when it occurs close to joints [2, 3]. Heterotopic ossification commonly occurs around the hip joint, especially after total hip arthroplasties, and most often involves the abductor muscles [4, 5]. Involvement of the iliopsoas and quadratus muscles, as in very few cases, has been reported [1, 6–9]. Most previously reported cases have been due to trauma or intramuscular hemorrhage. In this paper, we present a case of bilateral heterotopic ossification of the reflected head of rectus femoris muscle without antecedent trauma or any other known cause, as the first and unique case in the literature. 2. Case Report A 35-year-old amateur dancer woman presented to our outpatient department with a history of gradual, progressive, and painless restriction of movement of her right hip over the previous five years. There was no history of surgery, bleeding disorder, or systemic illness. Local clinical examination revealed fullness in the right femoral triangle, but any palpable mass. There was no distal neurovascular deficit. She had significant restriction of hip flexion and internal rotation. Wasting in her hip and thigh musculature was absent. Exact Solutions of Nonlinear Schrodinger's Equation with Dual Power-Law Nonlinearity by Extended Trial Equation Method

Abstract: In this paper, we acquire the soliton solutions of the nonlinear Schrodinger's equation with dual power-law nonlinearity. Primiraly, we use the extended trial equation method to find exact solutions of this equation. Then, we attain some exact solutions including soliton solutions, rational and elliptic function solutions of this equation by using the extended trial equation method.
