Hedonic Olfactory Perception in Depression: Relationship between Self-Evaluation and Autonomic Response  [PDF]
Boriana Atanasova, Philippe Gaillard, Frédéric Minier, Catherine Belzung, Wissam El-Hage
Psychology (PSYCH) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/psych.2012.311144
Abstract: This study aimed to improve the understanding of hedonic perception in depression using the olfactory modality. We evaluated physiological (heart rate measures) and hedonic responses (subjective rating scale) obtained from 30 unipolar depressed inpatients and 30 healthy controls. The stimuli were two odorants with contrasting hedonic valence, vanillin (pleasant) and butyric acid (foul-smelling), presented at three different concentrations and in nine binary mixtures. Compared to controls, the depressed subjects had significantly increased heart rate response to olfactory stimuli, regardless of valence. These observations were not related to the severity of depression. For both groups, a significant negative correlation was found between the explicit hedonic rating and the implicit instantaneous heart rate measure. Together these pilot findings suggest that unipolar depression is associated with stronger physiological reactions to odorants and a negative bias when processing olfactory stimuli. Further studies are required to confirm these observations in larger groups of depressed subjects.

Abstract: through considerations on the development of self-evaluation in the context of the national higher education evaluation system (sinaes), this article describes the experience of professors' who are part of the self-evaluation committee of a private university in the state of s?o paulo, discussing since the first involvements in evaluation processes to methodology settings, elaboration of data collecting techniques and disclosure of reports. although it does not emphasize the results of self-evaluation, the description and analysis of this process take into account the impact of the creation of higher education evaluation indexes.

Abstract: a quantitative increase in the evaluation process is observed in latin america including cuba. quality has become an important topic in different institutions. in the system of accreditation, world experience combines self- evaluation mechanism and external evaluation; although it is recognized that self-evaluation is one of the most adequate form to ensure the constant advance to a higher quality. the objective of this work is to suggest the principal phases of self-evaluation, and at the same time to justify the structure that the self-evaluation report should have. taking into consideration the bibliographic review and our own experience, five steps in the evaluation process were proposed: 1) preparatory phase, 2) collecting information according to the previous indicator selected, 3) analysis and assessment of the information obtained, 4) elaboration of the plan as a result of the strengthens and weakness previously identified, 5) monitored and followed phase of the action plan implementation. in relation to the structure of the self-evaluation report, the following aspects are suggested: presentation, introduction, characteristics of the self-evaluation process, evaluative synthesis, appendices, plan to be better.
An Experimental Comparison between Self- and Third-Party Evaluations  [PDF]

Theoretical Economics Letters (TEL) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/tel.2015.54053
Abstract: How to pick up the true meaning of messages exchanged in the laboratory is an important issue for experimental research. The present study investigates, by experimentally comparing self- and third-party evaluations, to what extent self-evaluations by message receivers can be relied on. After standard public-good game, subjects receive a free-form written message evaluating their decision and self-evaluate its content from their counterparts. Third-party evaluators also evaluate the content independently. A comparison between both evaluations shows that a significant proportion of them agree. Firm evidence of a self-serving bias cannot be found.

Psico-USF , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-82712010000300012
Abstract: the aim of this study was to investigate the psychometrics properties of the rosenberg self-esteem scale (rss) for adolescents. the sample was composed of 4.757 adolescents, with ages between 14 and 18 years old (m=15.77; sd=1.22) in nine brazilian cities. participants responded to an adapted version of the rss for brazil. exploratory factorial analysis showed a bidimensional structure, with 51.4% of explained variance. this result was supported by confirmatory factor analysis. the internal consistency analysis by cronbach alpha coefficient, composite reliability and extracted variance indicated good reliability. differences in self-esteem for gender and age were not found. these findings show that rss has satisfactory psychometric qualities and it's a reliable instrument to assess self-esteem in brazilian adolescents.

International Electronic Journal of Elementary Education , 2011,
Abstract: This review draws attention to issues related to school self-assessment. This process has been similarly implemented in a variety of jurisdictions globally in the past decade hence their inclusion herein as an attempt to understand the school self-assessment process which has also been developed for use in local Ontario (Canadian) elementary schools. This review includes an examination of the foundational components of effective schools, the purpose of school self-assessment, and the successes and challenges of school self-assessment both locally and internationally.

Journal of Dental Medicine , 2011,
Abstract: "nBackground and Aims: Evaluation is a continuous process which is necessary for improvement of students learning and planning for required changes to obtain the educational objectives. The aim of the present study was to assess students' perspective on the achievement of the educational objectives of the Community Oral Health and Periodontology Departments using the CIPP model of evaluation."nMaterials and Methods: A cross-sectional survey has been conducted using a questionnaire consists of four domains as introduced in the CIPP model of evaluation (Context, Input, Process and Product). Two groups of senior dental students of the dental school of Tehran University of Medical Sciences were approached. Data was collected anonymously and was analyzed with non-parametric Mann-Whitney test using the SPSS statistical package."nResults: The response rate was 67.7% for year 6 and 87.5% for the year 5 students. Respondents considered material presented in Periodontology Department more relevant and in need for their future career. However, teaching skills and motivation of the educators in Periodontology Department was considered inadequate. 67% of students reported having problem with material taught in Periodontology Department. Overall, significant difference in domains of Context and Process was observed between two departments (p<0.05). In the output domain students rated their clinical and theoretical ability "weak" in relation to splint, implant, management of acute gingivitis and electrosurgery compared with other topics which rated "good". Students considered their ability in using the principals of Evidence-Based Dentistry moderate."nConclusion: The evaluation of the educational achievements of the two departments (COH and Periodontics) using CIPP model of evaluation showed that there is significant difference in two domains (Context and Process). In those topics which achievement was reported weak the revision of teaching methods is recommended."nKey Words: Education dental; Program evaluation; Self-evaluation

Abstract: To create your own school curriculum should be a prerequisite for successful educational work of teachers and school management activities of the school management. Its introduction strengthens independence and accountability of schools, stressing in particular the quality of schools, meaning its self-evaluation and evaluation to determine, as it meets the learning goals formulated in the school education program. Each school should develop its own specific internal control system and evaluation ofthe school, which has three lines. One is a system of internal control and evaluation of school quality (open self-assessment), the second is a system of monitoring and evaluation of learning outcomes of children and pupils, and a third line is the development of evaluation system of teaching staff. In this study, we will give first priority of the indicated lines and with particular regard to kindergartens.Vytvorenie vlastného kolského vzdelávacieho programu by malo by predpokladom pre úspe nú eduka nú innos u ite ov koly a riadiacu innos mana mentu koly.
