A pesquisa clínica no Brasil
Zago,Marco Ant?nio;
Ciência & Saúde Coletiva , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-81232004000200013
Abstract: strengthening clinical research in brazil involves the creation, expansion, or consolidation of new centers, and especially the recovery of university hospitals and a stronger link between teaching and research. interaction between biomedical and basic research is indispensable to generate national knowledge on specific issues and to structure the health technology production sector. changes in the country's demographic and epidemiological profile have brought cardiovascular diseases, neoplasms, psychiatric diseases, diseases associated with urbanization, accidents/violence, and diseases of ageing to the list of health research priorities. brazil still displays important endemics in its epidemiological profile: dengue, malaria, schistosomiasis, hansen's disease, and viral hepatites, among others. consolidation of research in cellular and molecular biology applied to medicine is indispensable for medical practice in the country to remain up-to-date and competitive, as well as to allow interactions with the productive sector and the implementation of a national biotechnology complex.

Abstract: the aim of this study was to identify brazilian nursing dissertations and theses who used the methodological grounded theory (gt). the metodology used was bibliometric study of nursing theses and dissertations defended until 2009, available on theses database of the coordination of improvement of higher education (capes), the achievements of the brazilian nursing association (cepen), the brazilian digital library of theses and dissertations (bdtd) and institutional sites. for search of the data we used the keywords: "grounded theory" and "grounded theory" coupled individually to "nursing". we found 124 studies, 63 (50,81%) of masters and 61 (49,19%) of doctors, coming mainly from south and southeast of brazil. the theoretical framework used was predominantly symbolic interaction (71,77%). the use of pdt in theses and dissertations in nursing is growing and it is shown that can be applied at both levels of training in the strict sense for the elaboration of theoretical constructs.

The Brazilian investment in science and technology
Pinheiro-Machado, R.;de Oliveira, P.L.;
Brazilian Journal of Medical and Biological Research , 2001, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-879X2001001200003
Abstract: an analysis of brazilian federal expenditures in science and technology is presented is this study. the 1990-1999 data were compiled from records provided by two federal agencies (mct and cnpq) responsible for managing most of the national budget related to these activities. the results indicate that the federal investments in brazilian science and technology stagnated during the last decade (us$ 2.32 billion in 1990, us$ 2.39 billion in 1996, and us$ 2.36 billion in 1999). in contrast, a great increase in private investments in research was acknowledged both by industry and by the government during the same period, from us$ 2.12 to us$ 4.64 billion. however, this investment did not result in an increase in invention patents granted to residents (492 in 1990 and only 232 in 1997) or in a reduction of patent costs. despite this unfavorable scenario, the number of graduate programs in the country has increased two-fold in the last decade and the contribution of brazilians to the database of the institute for scientific information has increased 4.7-fold from 1990 (2,725 scientific publications) to 2000 (12,686 scientific publications). unstable federal resources for science, together with the poor returns of private resources in terms of developing new technologies, may jeopardize the future of brazilian technological development.
