The Role of Metal-Doped into Magnetite Catalysts for the Photo-Fenton Degradation of Organic Pollutants  [PDF]

Abstract: Recently, the incorporation of transition metals into magnetite increasing the heterogeneous Fenton catalytic activity of magnetite with high efficiency and interesting magnetic properties applied for degradation of organic pollutants in water purification and wastewater treatment have attracted more and more researchers. In this review, using of one or some metal doped magnetite based systems in heterogeneous Fenton, or photo-Fenton processes are discussed. Then, the role of metal doped species for the enhanced efficiency of degradation process is presented. Finally, possible reaction mechanism for the photo-Fenton degradation pollutants in the present of metal doped magnetite is also given.
Finite Difference Preconditioners for Legendre Based Spectral Element Methods on Elliptic Boundary Value Problems  [PDF]

Abstract:

Finite difference type preconditioners for spectral element discretizations based on Legendre-Gauss-Lobatto points are analyzed. The latter is employed for the approximation of uniformly elliptic partial differential problems. In this work, it is shown that the condition number of the resulting preconditioned system is bounded independently of both of the polynomial degrees used in the spectral element method and the element sizes. Several numerical tests verify the h-p independence of the proposed preconditioning.

Abstract: We investigate internal localized eigenmodes of the linearized equation around spin discrete breathers in 1D antiferromagnets with on-site easy axis anisotropy. The threshold of occurrence of the internal localized eigenmodes has a typical structure in parameter space depending on the frequency of the spin discrete breather. We also performed molecular dynamics simulation in order to show the validity of our linear analysis.

Abstract: Wild mushroom poisoning from the genus Amanita is a medical emergency, with Amanita phalloides being the most common offender. Patients may complain of nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and/or abdominal pain. If not aggressively treated, fulminant hepatic failure may develop within several days of ingestion. In this case report, a patient poisoned with Amanita bisporigera is described, along with the typical clinical presentation, patient outcomes, and treatment options for dealing with an Amanita mushroom poisoning.

Abstract: Open Source Software (OSS) is an emerging pattern in software development and IT strategy for many companies. Because OSS is based on giving away free software and making profits on services (e.g., customization and maintenance), there is an increasing interest in OSS and this is attracting many users and developers. Now companies across industries are adopting OSS as part of their main IT strategy because of the strategic benefits derived from using it. However, many non-IT employees, including executives and managers, do not have much knowledge about OSS, which often causes them confusion and difficulty in the matters of IT decision-making. Therefore, it is very important for organizations to understand what OSS is and what strategic benefits or challenges they must address while considering or adopting OSS as a part of their IT strategy. The goal of this paper is to review information on OSS and provide solid knowledge of OSS to developers and users. I seek answers to the following questions: (1) What is OSS? (2) Who are the developers and users? and (3) What are the developers` and users` benefits and challenges?
A Theoretical Extension of the Technology Acceptance Model: External Variables Affecting on Individuals` Behavioral Intention to Use Mobile Commerce

Abstract: Mobile-Commerce, also called M-Commerce, is a new trend and is expected to be the next big wave of our society. A number of M-Commerce devices, services and applications have been developed and are already in use, covering a wide range of individual functions, from voice message transmission to access to the Internet. In this regard, it is very important to understand factors that affect individuals` use and the adoption of M-Commerce as users of M-Commerce are projected to be increased in the future. Therefore, in this paper, the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) proposed by Davis (1989) and Davis, Bagozzi and Warshaw (1989) has been applied to investigate the effects of new variables on individuals` behavioral intention to use and adopt M-Commerce. Besides two beliefs in the original TAM-perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness, other relevant variables, such as (1) Socio-Economic Status (SES), (2) Perceived Mobility (PM), (3) Job Relevance and (4) Social Influence (SI) are included in the proposed M-Commerce adoption model.
Analysis of Real World Personnel Scheduling Problem: An Experimental Study of Lp-Based Algorithm for Multi-Time Multi-period Scheduling Problem for Hourly Employees

Abstract: Scheduling service employees at any campus dining center is not an easy task for a manager because most positions at a campus dining center are hourly-paid positions, leading to a high employee turnover and many uncertainties. In such a circumstance, a manager has a hard time to organize and project employees work schedules. The Johnson Commons (JC) dinning center at the University of Mississippi operated by Aramark also has similar difficulties in scheduling its hourly employees. After discussing with a manager and investigating the current scheduling system at the JC, it is found that the JC has one type of scheduling problem called the Multi-time Multi-Period Scheduling Problem. Therefore, the main purpose of this study is to find the optimal solution for the scheduling problem at the JC dining center. The result shows that with the optimal solution, the JC can save a total of $50,648.00 hourly employee labor expenses per year.
Characterization of Ultra Low-k SiOC(H) Film Deposited by Plasma-Enhanced Chemical Vapor Deposition (PECVD)

Abstract: In this study, deposition of low-dielectric constant SiOC(H) films by conventional plasma-enhanced chemical vapordeposition (PECVD) were investigated through various characterization techniques. The results show that, with anincrease in the plasma power density, the relative dielectric constant (k) of the deposited films decreases whereas therefractive index increases. This is mainly due to the incorporation of organic molecules with CH3 group into the Si-OSicage structure. It is as confirmed by FT-IR measurements in which the absorption peak at 1,129 cm-1 correspondingto Si-O-Si cage structure increases with power plasma density. Electrical characterization reveals that even after fastthermal annealing process, the leakage current density of the deposited films is in the order of 10-11 A/cm at 1.5 MV/cm. The reliability of the SiOC(H) film is also further characterized by using BTS test.

Abstract: Although e-Commerce has influenced the global business environment, many firms are continuously looking for new technology, applications and infrastructures where such innovations can bring more profits and attract more customers. One innovative environment, involving mobile computing and wireless technology is related to Mobile-Commerce (m-Commerce), which has become a new area of interest for today`s firms. M-Commerce is a new concept and is an innovation of the electronic market. It is creating entirely new opportunities for mobile devices and services. Until now, m-Commerce study has used to focus on issues and challenges. Recent statistics and predictions show that m-Commerce, however, may generate more strategic advantages than disadvantages for firms. Therefore, the main purpose of this study is to provide an overview of m-Commerce, the four main issues that affect the industry and implementation of this technology and its substantial benefits.
Universality of Period Doubling in Coupled Maps

Abstract: We study the critical behavior of period doubling in two coupled one-dimensional maps with a single maximum of order $z$. In particurlar, the effect of the maximum-order $z$ on the critical behavior associated with coupling is investigated by a renormalization method. There exist three fixed maps of the period-doubling renormalization operator. For a fixed map associated with the critical behavior at the zero-coupling critical point, relevant eigenvalues associated with coupling perturbations vary depending on the order $z$, whereas they are independent of $z$ for the other two fixed maps. The renormalization results for the zero-coupling case are also confirmed by a direct numerical method.
