Abstract: objetive: to validate a semi quantitative food frequency questionnaire to assess the food intake of adults in the city of vi?osa, minas gerais. methods: ninety-four adults of both genders and representing different educational levels. as a reference method for the validation study four 24 hour dietary recalls were used with intervals of one month in between. a semi quantitative food frequency questionnaire containing 58 food items was applied at the end of the study. the dietetic data was calculated using diet pro software and analyzed according to difference of means or medians and pearson's correlation. the correlation coefficients were adjusted for energy and corrected for intrapersonal variance. cross classification was used for comparing both methods. results: differences of means or medians revealed underestimation of the semi quantitative food frequency questionnaire on determining the consumption of micronutrients (vitamin c, retinol, and calcium). however, when evaluated by the correlation coefficients and corrected for the variance, these micronutrients presented adequate values; lipid was the only nutrient that indicated low consistency in the dietary assessment among the methods (r=0.33); the other nutrients showed a correlation varying from r=0.40 to r=0.76, with a mean of r=0.52. the correct classification of the methods presented a non-perfect agreement, but acceptable among the evaluated methods. conclusion: the performance of the semi quantitative food frequency questionnaire in the assessment of the habitual food intake was acceptable for most of the nutrients in the studied population. the studied questionnaire can be adapted and used in other populations, but a new validation study is needed if the characteristics of the population differ.

Abstract: This paper investigated the porcine surfactant protein A (pSP-A) immunogenicity in murine model. Many elegant stu-dies about SP-A therapeutic applications are available however specific studies about its exogenous immunogenicity were not easily assumed. Therefore, we investigated the immunogenicity of this porcine protein in mice. The mice re-ceived pSP-A subcutaneously on days 0 and 7. The animals were observed during 90 days and the blood was collected on days 30, 60 and 90 for assessment the immunogenic potential of pSP-A. Some animals showed circulating antibodies above the screening cut point, which was calculated based on control mice sera signals. However, those antibodies were considered false positive read-outs by the performed competitive inhibition assay. Also no neutralizing antibodies were detected able to avoid the porcine protein ability to promote lipid aggregation. So far in this model, porcine surfactant protein-A could be considered not immunogenic.

The cognitive ability and motivation are considered as major determinants of learning and academic achievement. Within the cognitive or socio-cognitivist paradigm, the theoretical models emphasize the internal psychological processes to explain the motivated academic behavior. The achievement goals emerge, in this theoretical framework, as one of the most valued factors in explaining the students′ academic achievement. In this paper we seek to reflect on the types of achievement goals and their role to predict the academic success, calling attention to the crucial role of family and school contexts. The examination of some national and international studies leads to a conclusion that it is important that the conceptualization and assessment of academic goals take more account of the contexts of teaching and learning, as well as the various actors involved in these educational contexts. This article presents the results of the Brazilian study within the international research entitled “Meanings of music for students in school-based and non-school musical activities”. This research aimed at investigating the importance and the meaning assigned by students to musical activities developed in school and non-school contexts. The method consisted of a survey involving 21,975 students from eight countries (Brazil, China, Finland, Hong Kong, Israel, Mexico, South Korea and United States of America), which questionnaire was grounded on the Eccles and Wigfield’s expectancy-value model for motivation. The Brazilian sample consisted of 1848 students belonging to the 6th degree of Fundamental Education and to the 3rd degree of High School, from 11 cities of the Rio Grande do Sul state. Data collection was carried out through a questionnaire about students’ opinion on interest, importance, difficulty, utility, competence and confidence sense in relation to Arts, Science, Physical Education, Mathematics, Portuguese and Music. Data was treated by Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). In Brazil, results show that the degree of interest, importance and utility of music increases as the student belong to more advanced deg

In this study, the main motivational variables and profiles which describe Galician (Spain) Secondary School pupils are shown. In order to do so, we start from two basic criteria: on one hand, the way in which these pupils perceive the parent-children relationship with regard to how parents value their children’s capacity and their school work is analysed, and on the other hand, starting from the way in which pupils value their own high or low academic achievement, we aim to obtain the same perception as above on the part of the pupils. Finally, the aim is to establish a sequential line, by order of priority, of those motivational indicators which best describe the pupils and which have a significant effect on Secondary School pupil’s achievement and learning.
