Performance of an Axial Cascade  [PDF]

A cascade is defined as an infinite row of equidistant similarly aerofoil bodies. The cascade is used to divert a flow stream with a minimal loss. The flow over an axial cascade presents a complicated intra blade fluid dynamic interaction that causes the flow to behave differently than the flow over a single aerofoil blade. A cascade tunnel in which different shapes of cascades could be tested for performance evaluation has been build. An axial flat plate cascade of 70 mm chord, 215 mm span and 0.55 pitch chord ratio has been tested in this tunnel for evaluating its aerodynamic performance. The results depict that the Reynolds number, incidence and blade angle of the cascade control the aerodynamic performance of the axial cascade.

An Efficient Space-Time Coding Scheme for Time Dispersive MIMO Channels  [PDF]

Abstract: In this paper, we introduce an efficient space-time coding scheme for time dispersive Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) channels. Channel layering and Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) technique are used in the proposed scheme. The proposed scheme is based on maximizing the distance between any two codewords. This is done by inserting an optimized phase shifts between the symbols in the same layer and between different layers. This way leads to the increase of the achieved diversity and coding gains. As a result, the performance of the system will be improved. Simulation results show the efficiency of the proposed scheme compared to the conventional schemes.
The Role of Morphology and Short Vowelization in Reading Morphological Complex Words in Arabic: Evidence for the Domination of the Morpheme/Root-Based Theory in Reading Arabic  [PDF]

Abstract: This study investigated the reading accuracy of 59 adult highly skilled native Arabic readers in reading morphological complex Arabic words in 6 reading conditions: Isolated words with short vowelization, isolated words without short vowelization, sentences with roots with short vowelization, sentences with roots without short vowelization, sentences without priming roots with short vowelization and sentences without priming roots without short vowelization. The results indicated that roots and short vowelization were good facilitators for these adults highly skilled readers in their reading accuracy of morphological complex Arabic words. The results are discussed in the light of the role of roots as autonomous semantic entities and that the complex morphology of Arabic needs short vowelization for accuracy in reading.
Municipal Solid Waste Management in Constantine, Algeria  [PDF]

Abstract: Constantine, with a population of 480,000 and containing 90,000 households, generated 164,250 tons of solid waste in 2015 in which domestic waste is the primary source. The aim of this study was to assess the situation of municipal solid-waste (MSW) management in Constantine. Actually, the collection and transportation of solid waste is managed by the municipality, with a small participation of the private sector. More than 90% of the municipality solid waste is disposed and treated in an environmentally sound manner (landfill). Unfortunately, there is a poor culture with respect to the 3R principles (reduce, reuse, recycle) in Constantine leading to a rapid growth of waste generation which has overwhelmed the capacity of the already saturated available landfill. There remain important challenges in solid waste management for the municipal authorities in Constantine which include: the proper management of the financial resources, public education aimed at reduction and separating household waste and optimizing the existing collection system.

Abstract: Due to the importance of development and its impact on our life, in this paper we are going to elaborate on the Sustainable Development and its related issues. In the following, due to the essential role that GIScience can play on the success trend of Sustainable Development, GIScience will be defined and its importance will be discussed as an effective tool in its logical procedure of Sustainable Development. The decision making support systems—using Geo-information and spatial data—is merging increasingly into other disciplines design and techniques day by day. So It would be worth investigation on the technical aspects of sustainable development and its consideration in projects development in general, throughout the literature review and SD requirements. The successful sustained achievement will depend on clear “political” answerability for its reliability and local regulatory environment. It should be in harmony with the additional superior prescription and ruling at the national or international levels by the use and utilization of national spatial data infrastructure. The paper will ends up with a set of suggested practices in the development of Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI).

Abstract: In this paper, first we are going to discuss briefly the importance of 3D information, and its application because of the Increasing demand for detailed information about real world objects and phenomena including altimetry and planimetry data (X, Y, Z), then we will explain in short the available methods for 3D measurement. It’s important to note that the Information collection by itself cannot define and sufficiently provide all the necessary actions to be taken in order to get them accessible and useful for users. The data management and establishment of a proper and reliable DBMS and finally a GIS system at the same time are vital crucial in the course of 3D application that will be discussed throughout the paper. The existing drawbacks and elements needed to be considered for the cartographic presentation are the key issues in three-dimensional world visualization. The elaboration on the 3D information and its knowledge transfer to the users in a SDI framework as well as the requirement recognition of beneficiary organizations will be the next step in this paper and the most probable problems will be studied in this stage. At the final stage, we’ll come up with conclusion, warnings and recommendation.

Abstract: This paper discusses the relationship among the president, the prime minister and the parliament of Russia under the Constitution of the Russian Federation (1993). Although the legal system of Russia recognises independent functions of each state branch based on the principle of separation of power, it fails to provide genuine instruments that can limit the president from accumulating power in the executive branch. It is designed in a way that not only persuades imbalance in power distribution, but also gives a constrict space to the prime minister and the parliament to appear independent in a series of interactions and, therefore, resulting in an undemocratic political process and derailed economic development.

Abstract: The Thanetian phosphatic series of Jebel Dyr syncline, northeastern Algeria, are analyzed for their paleontological content. Materials were concentrated by sample washing and outcrops surface collecting of friable phosphorites facies, yielding a multitude of phosphatised fish teeth rich in species of variable morphology, representing 28 species of Elasmobranchii. The fish fauna indicates tropical to temperate paleo-environmental conditions. Most of the species represent benthic/nektonic forms of coastal areas with neritic and midwater depths of the continental slope.
The Role of Anterior Segment Optical Coherence Tomography in Glaucoma

Abstract: The anterior segment optical coherence tomography provides an objective method to assess the anterior segment of the eye, including the anatomy of the anterior chamber angle. This technology allows both qualitative and quantitative analyses of the angle and has shown potential in detecting and managing angle-closure glaucoma. In addition, it has a role in identifying pathology in some forms of secondary open-angle glaucoma and postsurgical management of glaucoma. Limitations of this technology include its cost and inability to visualize well structures posterior to the iris, such as the ciliary body. This paper focuses on potential benefits and limitations of anterior segment optical coherence tomography when compared with conventional gonioscopy and ultrasound biomicroscopy. Various clinical entities will be described to discuss its potential role in glaucoma practice.
Properties of Strandboard Panels Manufactured from Eastern Redcedar

Abstract: This study evaluated physical and mechanical properties of experimental strandboard panels with random flake alignment manufactured from eastern redcedar (Juniperus virginiana L.) logs. Panels were made at two density levels of 0.65 g/cm3 and 0.78 g/cm3 using phenol formaldehyde adhesive applied at a rate of 8%. Mechanical properties including modulus of elasticity and modulus of rupture, and internal bond strength of the panels in addition to their thickness swelling characteristics were evaluated. As expected, mechanical properties of the samples improved with increasing panel density. Thickness swelling of the samples for 2- and 24-h water soaking test ranged from 6.32% to 18.41%. Both physical and mechanical properties of the panels showed acceptable results, comparable to those found in past studies using other species to manufacture similar types of product. Based on initial findings of this study it appears that eastern redcedar, which is an under-utilized invasive resource, has potential as a raw material for structural panel manufacture.
