Abstract: It was aimed to verify carrying, keeping and frequency of use of the masculine preservative among young night club goers in the city of Fortaleza, Ceará. Research traverse of the exploratory-descriptive type of quantitative approach. Population constituted by 211 young night club goers older than 18 years. The data were stored and codified in SPSS. It was observed 124 (58,8%) reported always to use preservatives. Of those who referred to use it not frequently, the main reason for not accepting it was the use of the hormonal contraceptive (43,2%). Of the interviewed people, 130 (61,6%) weren’t carrying preservative and 81 (38,4%) were carrying. 40,7% kept it in the wallet. There was a relationship between the way the preservative was kept and the conditions of the package because those crumpled were all kept in the wallet. It was verified the importance of the discussion of this issue among young, a way of contributing for the reduction of infections, given that these present people risk behavior for DST/AIDS.

Abstract: Objective: This study aimed to carry out a topographical analysis of frontal lobe executive function components in post-stroke patients. Methods: A descriptive, cross-sectional study. The assessment using the WCST (Wisconsin Card Sorting Test) included sixteen patients with a clinical diagnosis of CVA and frontal lobe impairment. Results from the two groups were compared (patients with right frontal lobe impairment and patients with left frontal lobe impairment). Statistical analysis was performed using the program “Statistical Package for Social Sciences” (SPSS) Version 20.0. For comparison between groups was used Mann-Whitney test and considered the alpha level of 0.05 on the statistically significant results. Results: There was no statistically significant difference between the groups, thus showing that executive functions are symmetrically distributed across the frontal lobes. Conclusion: Executive functions are symmetrically organized across the two frontal lobes, since the comparison between the groups did not demonstrate a statistically significant difference for any of the variables of WSCT.

Abstract: Central giant cell lesions (CGCLs) are benign intraosseous proliferative lesions that occur in the maxilla and mandible primarily during the first to third decades of life [1]. Histologically, multinucleated giant cells are prominent throughout the fibroblastic stroma and are often clustered around areas of haemorrhage [2].CGCLs represent a treatment challenge. The clinical behaviour is extremely variable in that certain lesions are completely silent and grow very slowly whereas others behave more aggressively [3]. In recurrent or aggressive lesions, en bloc resection is a treatment option, but this procedure results in large surgical defects [4,5]. Nonsurgical treatment methods, such as intralesional corticosteroid injections and systemic calcitonin or interferon-α, are increasingly being used [4,6-11].Steroids appear to inhibit the production of extracellular lysosomal proteases in multinucleated giant cells. In addition, steroids reduce bone resorption and induce the apoptosis of osteoclastic cells [5].Bisphosphonates are widely used to inhibit osteolysis in conditions such as osteoporosis, Paget’s disease and bone destruction through metastatic cancer. Landesberg et al. [1] reported three cases of CGCLs treated with bisphosphonates. The first case showed the successful treatment with a single administration of intravenous bisphosphonates, the second resulted in a 30% reduction of the lesion, and the last case showed stabilisation but no regression of the lesion.Based on such evidence, the purpose of this study was to report a case of CGCL that had been treated with intralesional corticosteroids and oral bisphosphonates.A 36-year-old male with no relevant medical history was referred for the evaluation of swelling on the left side of his jaw, which had been associated with paraesthesia for the previous 5 months. On extra-oral examination, a slight swelling in the chin region was noted. Intraorally, the examination revealed swelling of the mouth vestibule and high

Abstract: progressive hemifacial atrophy, also known as parry-romberg syndrome, is an uncommon degenerative and poorly understood condition. it is characterized by a slow and progressive atrophy affecting one side of the face. the incidence and the cause of this alteration is unknown. a cerebral disturbance of fat metabolism has been proposed as a primary cause. this can be the result of a trophic malformation of cervical sympathetic nervous system. possible factors that are involved in the pathogenesis include trauma, viral infections, heredity, endocrine disturbances and auto-immunity, among others. the most common complications that appear in association to this health disorder are: trigeminal neuritis, facial paresthesia, severe headache and epilepsy, being this last one the most frequent complication of the central nervous system. characteristically, the atrophy progresses slowly for several years and, soon after, it become stable. now, plastic surgery with graft of autogenous fat can be performed, after stabilization of the disease, to correct the deformity. orthodontic treatment can help in the correction of any associated malformation. the objective of this work is, through the presentation of a clinical case, to accomplish a literature review concerning general characteristics, etiology, physiopathology, differential diagnosis and treatment of progressive hemifacial atrophy.

Abstract: purpose: osteosarcoma is a malignant bone neoplasm with aggressive clinical evolution which is usually diagnosed in late stages of the disease, when primary tumor reaches significant dimensions. in many cases, an aggressive surgical treatment, which includes major bone resection and is sometimes associated with radiotherapy and chemotherapy, is required for better control of local recurrence and metastasis in such lesions. case description: this paper reports an early-diagnosed case of osteosarcoma in the left side of the mandible and an accurate evaluation of the tumor involvement by means of cone beam computerized tomography. conclusion: the early diagnosis of osteosarcoma is an uncommon condition that has good influence both on the treatment and prognosis of such tumor. this early diagnosis and an accurate evaluation of the tumor involvement were determining factors for conservative, curative surgical procedure with minimum sequelae. the pericementary space should be especially observed, since its thickness is a much more common feature in osteosarcomas. studies that allow for identifying osteosarcomas in earlier stages should be conducted in order to enable longer survival and better quality of life.

Abstract: in spite of the high amount of n accumulated in high-yielding, short-rotation eucalyptus plantations, no significant or consistent increases in trunk volume have been observed in response to n fertilization. this experiment evaluated the effect of n fertilization on the growth and chemical composition of eucalyptus as well as its role in soil organic matter (som) mineralization. the field experiment was carried out in a randomized block design with three replications, in itamarandiba- mg. two n sources (ammonium sulphate and ammonium nitrate) of increasing n rates (0, 60, 120, 240 kg ha-1) were tested on the eucalyptus clones aec1528?. the effect of the treatments on tree growth and n accumulation were evaluated in 30 month-old trees with average dbh, which were harvested and separated in stem, bark, branches, and leaves to determine dry matter production and nutrient contents. soil and forest litter samples were collected for chemical analyses. total c and n content of particulate organic matter (pom) and organic matter associated to the mineral fraction (omam) were quantified by mass spectrometry (irms) after physical separation of som. the statistical analyses consisted of variance analysis and regression. nitrogen fertilization increased trunk volume and aerial dry matter. the estimated n rate to obtain 90 % of the maximum trunk volume was 74 kg ha-1 in the form of ammonium sulfate, and increased the yield by 42.3 % in comparison to the control plot without n fertilization. in response to n rates of 120 kg ha-1, no difference was observed between ammonium sulfate and ammonium nitrate. no alterations in som c and n stocks were detected due to n application. however, there was an increase in ca, mg and s absorption. the apparent n recovery rate in the field was highest at the n rate of 120 kg ha-1, reaching 34.4%.

Abstract: Shelter is a last resort in cases of suspected or threatened violation of rights in the Statute of the Child and Adolescent. The literature suggests that quality of care offered to children is one of the factors necessary to ensure the protective nature of the institutional care. This study aimed to investigate the profile and care practices of educators in the state of Pará, comparing two contexts, the metropolitan region of Belém (RMB) and the interior region of the state (IE). Data were collected by semi-structured interviews with 110 educators from 11 shelters in the state of Pará. The results show that the RMB educators have higher average service time than IE group, and significant differences were detected in 14 care practices between the groups. Our findings corroborate the literature on the importance of training and valuing the educator in order to provide a higher quality service.
