Fluid Inclusions Usage for Assessing Oil Migration in Duhok, North Iraq  [PDF]

Abstract: Studies of primary and secondary fluid inclusions were done on epigenetic barite samples collected from carbonates of Lower part of Sarmord Formation (Lower Cretaceous) and Aqra-Bekhme Formations (Upper Cretaceous) in Duhok, north Iraq. Lead isotopes composition in galena which associated barite that contained fluid inclusions helped the identification two events of fluid inclusions. These fluid inclusions contain brine water and hydrocarbons. Primary and secondary fluid inclusions in barite as well as lead isotopes composition in galena helped the interpretation of oil migration history and the pathway of oil migration. Ages of galena are syngronous with the events of oil and water trapping as inclusions within barite, and hence the interpreted galena generation could be assigned to the fluid inclusions age. Accordingly, the events are two phases of early and late generations that correspond to 120 m.y. and 30 m.y. respectively. Correlation with 10 PetroMod basin modeling of the generated oil from the Jurassic and Lower Cretaceous Formations fitted with the event of early galena generation, whereas the oil migration started before 70 m.y. and continued to 30 m.y. ago. Palynomorphs study confirmed that the oil in source rocks is similar with the migrated oil.

Abstract: This paper elaborated the epidermis properties, transverse sections of leaves, petioles and stems of five cultivated spe-cies belong to five genera of Myrtaceae. They are Callistemon viminalis (Sol. ex Gaertn.) G. Don, Eucalyptus camaldulensis Dehnh., Myrtus communis L., Psidium guajava L. and Syzygium aromaticum (L.) Merr. It was clear that certain structural characteristics were of significant impor-tance in separation of these taxa, such as the presence of hypodermis in the leaves of P. guajava, the absence of stomata from the abaxial surface of leaves of C. viminalis and P. guajava, the isobilateral mesophyll in C. viminalis and E. camaldulensis leaves, the wavy transverse section of stem in C. viminalis, the presence of more than one vascular strand in S. aromaticum petioles as well as the presence of prismatic crystals in addition to the druses in the petioles of P. guajava.
Aliskiren Augments the Activities of Anti-Oxidant Enzymes in Liver Homogenates of DOCA Salt-Induced Hypertensive Rats  [PDF]

Abstract: Hypertension is a serious problem that is recently thought to be associated with damaging effects on target organs partially via oxidative stress. On the other hand, there is accumulating literature describing some sort of therapeutic interaction between antioxidant enzymes in vital organs and hypertension. Therefore, the aim of this study is to investigate the possible effect of a direct renin inhibitor, aliskiren, used in treatment of hypertension via renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS), on selected anti-oxidant enzymes in hepatic homogenates in DOCA salt-induced hypertesnive albino rats. Thirty male wister albino rats were assigned randomly into 3 groups (n = 10/ group). Group 1 received no treatement and serves as control. Group 2 received 0.5% carboxymethylcellulose sodium ip as a solvent of aliskiren, as a direct renin inhibitor (DRI). Group 3 received aliskiren 100 mg/kg/day ip for 4 weeks through gastric tube. Systolic blood pressure (SBP) was measured every week and its mean was recorded at the end of the study. Superoxide dismutase (SOD) enzyme in RBCs lysates, activities of catalase (CAT) and glutathione peroxidase enzymes and thiobarbituric acid reactive substance (TBARS), as a marker of lipid peroxidation, in hepatic homogenates were measured at the end of the study. DRI produced a marked reduction in mean SBP of hypertensive rats. It also significantly (p < 0.05) increased the activities of measured anti-oxidant enzymes while it significantly (p < 0.05) reduced TBARS in liver homogenates. These results indicated that renin possesses an oxidative effect in the liver in hypertensive rats. Aliskiren, in addition to its powerful anti-hypertensive effect, it could induce a great anti-oxidant effect in liver homogenates of DOCA salt-hypertensive rats.

Abstract: Global concerns toward environmental issues have induced growing demand for new approaches in the construction because of its considerable impact on the environment and use of natural resources. Through using construction sustainability tools, methods and techniques, a greener design can be applied during various building phases. In this connection, it is argued that the analytical and integrated models applied by Building Information Modelling (BIM) may also facilitate this process to be performed more efficiently. BIM and construction sustainability are quite different initiatives, but both have received much attention in recent years in the architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) industry. A rigorous analysis of the interactions between them implies that a synergy exists which, if properly it is understood that can be helpful to reduce the environmental impacts of the AEC industry. A BIM-based design model can contribute to sustainability through its three main dimensions which are environmental, economic and social. In this paper, by reviewing the existing literature on BIM and construction sustainability and using a matrix to analyze construction sustainability dimensions and BIM functionalities a number of interactions have been discussed. It can be concluded that despite there are many improvements in implementation of BIM in environmental and economic aspects of sustainability, its potential impact on social dimension has not been explicitly explored hence further studies need to be undertaken in this area.
Light and Electron Microscopic Study of the Effect of Orlistat on the Liver of Adult Male Albino Rats and the Possible Protective Role of β-Carotene  [PDF]

Abstract: Orlistat is a safe and effective drug to treat obesity by acting as a pancreatic and gastric lipase inhibitor, resulting in reduction in fat absorption. There is also concern that it may be linked with an increased threat of serious hepatic incidents. The present work was carried out to study the effect of orlistat on the histological, immunohistochemical and electron microscopic structure of the liver in the adult male albino rats and the possible protective role of β-carotene administration. Forty adult albino rats were subjected to experiment for two weeks as follows: group 1 (control), group II, each animal received 0.52 mg/kg bw/day β-Carotene, group III, each animal received orlistat 32 mg/kg/day, and group IV received β-Carotene, 1hour before the administration of orlistat at same dose of group II & III. The liver from each animal was dissected out and processed for histological, (light and electron microscopic study). The result of Hep-Par1 for immunohistochemistry was statistically analyzed. The results showed that orlistat treated group displayed variable disturbance of liver architecture, from dilatation, congested central and portal veins, branching of bile ductules, mononuclear cellular infiltration, areas of hemorrhages, cytoplasmic vacuolation and pyknotic nuclei. The most obvious changes were that degenerative changes in hepatocytes led to depletion of glycogen content of hepatocytes. Hep Par-1 revealed a wide area of negative immune expression around the central vein and in some hepatocytes. Other hepatocytes expressed weak reaction. Ultrastructure examination displayed hepatocytes with swollen mitochondria and others with an electron-dense matrix. The combined treatment of β-Carotene and orlistat led to a marked improvement in most of the previously mentioned changes. It was concluded that orlistat-induced hepatic toxicity. Thus, clinicians should cautiously monitor their patients for signs of hepatic dysfunction. Using an antioxidant such as β-Carotene decreased the toxicity of orlistat.
Computed Tomography Angiography Compared to Catheter Based Angiography in Evaluation of Cerebral Arterial Aneurysm and Arteriovenous Malformation  [PDF]

Abstract: Both cerebral arterial aneurysm and arteriovenous malformation are cerebrovascular disease, which required immediate diagnosis and urgent treatment. Since the introduction of multislice CT scanners, CT angiography (CTA) has become a powerful tool for imaging the vascular system. The goal of this study is to compare catheter based angiography and CTA in the evaluation of cerebral arterial aneurysm and arteriovenous malformation AVM. A retrospective analysis of 50 patients for exploring the record of patient who underwent both multislice CT angiography (MSCTA) and catheter based angiography before treatment is presented during last one year in the department of Radiology, King Fahd Hospital-Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The sensitivity of CTA for picking up aneurysm is 86% and the sensitivity of catheter based angiography for picking up aneurysm is 97%. The specificity of CTA for picking up aneurysm is (76%), the false positive cases are (3%) and the false negative cases are 10%. The sensitivity of both CTA and catheter based angiography for picking up arteriovenous malformation is (90%). The specificity of CTA for picking up AVM is (76%), the false positive cases are (10%) and no false negative cases in CTA are found. The sensitivity and specificity of catheter based angiography is 100% in diagnosis and detection of cerebral arterial aneurysm and AVM. The present study concluded that CTA has high sensitivity and specificity in detecting aneurysm and AVM enough to be chosen as the first step. Catheter based angiography, still a gold standard for radiology examination, is the most accurate, sensitive and specific method in diagnosis and detection of cerebral arterial aneurysm and arteriovenous malformation, which can be done as the second step. In addition, catheter based angiography is done for treatment planning, treatment with interventional procedure and for prognosis after treatment.
Therapeutic Diets for Diarrhea: Biological Evaluation in Rats

Abstract: The present research dealt with the evaluation of the anti-diarrheal activity of two therapeutic diets in model of castor oil induced diarrhea in rats. Formula I contain modest amount of skimmed milk, formula II was lactose restricted diet. Both formulae contain cereals, legumes, honey and edible source having anti-diarrheal activity. The nutritional value of the two formulated therapeutic diets was evaluated in normal growing rats in comparison to reference formula, milupa special formula, in addition to control balanced diet (contain 10% protein supplemented from casein). The evaluation of nutritional value depended on determination of total food intake, body weight gain, food efficiency ratio and protein efficiency ratio. Nutritional status of rats fed different diets was also evaluated through determination of certain biochemical parameters such as percentage haematocrit, blood haemoglobin concentration, plasma total protein, albumin, iron, phosphorus, zinc, magnesium, retinol and -carotene. Results showed that anti-diarrheal activity of formula I was superior compared to formula II. Milupa and formula I have higher values of protein efficiency ratio and food efficiency ratio than control casein diet which were significant in case of Milupa. However diet II showed comparable values to control. Biochemical parameters showed higher values of plasma total protein, magnesium and retinol of rats fed Milupa diet. Feeding diet II produced significant increase of plasma iron magnesium and retinol. However, only significant increase of plasma magnesium has been observed when feeding diet I.

Abstract: This Ontologies are widely used as a means for solving the information heterogeneity problems on the web because of their capability to provide explicit meaning to the information. They become an efficient tool for knowledge representation in a structured manner. There is always more than one ontology for the same domain. Furthermore, there is no standard method for building ontologies, and there are many ontology building tools using different ontology languages. Because of these reasons, interoperability between the ontologies is very low. Current ontology tools mostly use functions to build, edit and inference the ontology. Methods for merging heterogeneous domain ontologies are not included in most tools. Designing a Full Adder Circuit Based on Quasi-Floating Gate  [PDF]

Abstract:

Since in designing the full adder circuits, full adders have been generally taken into account, so as in this paper it has been attempted to represent a full adder cell with a significant efficiency of power, speed and leakage current levels. For this objective, a comparison between five full adder circuits has been provided. Applying floating gate technology and refresh circuits in the full adder cell lead to the reduction of leakage current on the gate node. The simulations were accomplished in this paper, through HSPICE software and 65 nm CMOS technology. The simulation results indicate the considerable efficiency of power consumption, speed and leakage current in the full adder cell rather than other cells.

Assessment of Cyclic Resistance Ratio (CRR) in Silty Sands Using Artificial Neural Networks  [PDF]

Abstract: In this study, a backpropagation neural network algorithm was developed in order to predict the liquefaction cyclic resistance ratio (CRR) of sand-silt mixtures. A database, consisting of sufficient published data of laboratory cyclic triaxial, torsional shear and simple shear tests results, was collected and utilized in the ANN model. Several ANN models were developed with different sets of input parameters in order to determine the model with best performance and preciseness. It has been illustrated that the proposed ANN model can predict the measured CRR of the different data set which was not incorporated in the developing phase of the model with the good degree of accuracy. The subsequent sensitivity analysis was performed to compare the effect of each parameter in the model with the laboratory test results. At the end, the participation or relative importance of each parameter in the ANN model was obtained.
