Abstract: Five groups of mice were subjected to thromboembolic stroke: adult males, aged males, adult females, aged females, and adult ovariectomized females. They were treated with phosphate saline (vehicle) or minocycline (6 mg/kg) immediately after stroke onset. Behavioral outcomes, infarct volumes and cerebral blood flow were assessed. The effect of minocycline on expression and activity of MMP-9 was analyzed. The model resulted in reproducible infarct in the experimental groups. As expected, adult females were significantly more resistant to cerebral ischemic injury than males. This advantage was abolished by aging and ovariectomy. Minocycline significantly reduced the infarct volume (P < 0.0001) and also improved neurologic score (P < 0.0001) in all groups. Moreover, minocycline treatment significantly reduced mortality at 24 hours post stroke (P = 0.037) for aged mice (25% versus 54%). Stroke up-regulated MMP-9 level in the brain, and acute minocycline treatment reduced its expression in both genders (P < 0.0001).In a thromboembolic stroke model minocycline is neuroprotective irrespective of mouse sex and age.Interest in sex differences during acute stroke is an area of growing interest. A consistent finding in rodent models of cerebral ischemia is that young females have smaller infarct sizes and better outcomes than young male rodents [1]. This female protection is lost after ovariectomy. However, the sex difference in stroke is only present when the brain is reperfused; in permanent occlusion the sex difference vanishes [2]. Moreover, in older rodents, the sex difference seen in younger animals is lost [3]. Reproductively senescent older female and male mice have similar infarct sizes after 2 hours of ischemia and 22 hours of reperfusion [4].The effect of sex on stroke outcome may also be hormone independent [3]. Recent studies suggest the existence of sex-divergent cell death pathways operating during cerebral ischemia [5]. The neuronal nitric oxide (NO)/Poly ADP ri

Abstract: Rock samples of industrial raw materials that are used in the building, from the West of Saudi Arabia (Arabian Shield), have been investigated using X-ray diffraction to identify the mineral chemical composition. The concentrations of Al%, Bi, Pb, Th, U, and K in ppm were measured by atomic absorption analysis. The activity concentrations in Bq/kg dry weight of 226Ra, 232Th and 40K were measured using gamma-ray spectrometry where the range and average were found to be (03.04 - 10.91) 07.90, (03.19 - 13.31) 09.14 and (95.59 - 361.52) 234.81 in Basalt, for Granite (33.81 - 89.13) 80.85, (28.42 - 112.77) 68.50 and (1260.13 - 1629.21) 1376.69, for Gold (00.78 - 11.84) 04.73, (01.48 - 4.69) 02.69 and (13.76 - 445.09) 197.58, for Andesite 05.72, 03.73 and 471.93, and for Marble 01.56, 01.38 and 10.15 respectively. Most results existing within the given values in building materials by UNSCEAR 1993 included Raeq (Bq/kg), D (nGy/h), Deff (mSv/y), Hex and Hin, which meant that it was safe for humans.

Academic Research International , 2012,
Abstract: This research paper intends to understand the impact of leadership behaviors of principal with teachers on collaborative learning. Four hypotheses were developed to examine staff’sperformance, differences and relationships. Two survey instruments LPI & SPSLC were usedto collect data. LPI was scored using seven point Liker Scale. The location of the study was focused on 20 Government and 20 Private Schools of Karachi. Total score indicating a proper distribution in the self-ratings of the school principals and learning needs of teachers. The comparison data shows the level of mean differences among staff and heads which is greater than the critical value. The co relational data indicates that dimensions 1 to 4 are significantand negatively correlated; dimension 5 has no significance with any of the SPSLC descriptors.

Mathematics , 2010,
Abstract: We give some bounds on the numbers of rational points on abelian varieties and jacobians varieties over finite fields. The main result is that we determine the maximum and minimum number of rational points on jacobians varieties of dimension 2.

Abstract: This paper is concerned with some Algebraic Geometry codes on Jacobians of genus 2 curves. We derive a lower bound for the minimum distance of these codes from an upper "Weil type" bound for the number of rational points on irreducible (possibly singular or non-absolutely irreducible) curves lying on an abelian surface over a finite field.

Computer Science , 2015, DOI: 10.5120/19293-0725
Abstract: Recently, economic depression, which scoured all over the world, affects business organizations and banking sectors. Such economic pose causes a severe attrition for banks and customer retention becomes impossible. Accordingly, marketing managers are in need to increase marketing campaigns, whereas organizations evade both expenses and business expansion. In order to solve such riddle, data mining techniques is used as an uttermost factor in data analysis, data summarizations, hidden pattern discovery, and data interpretation. In this paper, rough set theory and decision tree mining techniques have been implemented, using a real marketing data obtained from Portuguese marketing campaign related to bank deposit subscription [Moro et al., 2011]. The paper aims to improve the efficiency of the marketing campaigns and helping the decision makers by reducing the number of features, that describes the dataset and spotting on the most significant ones, and predict the deposit customer retention criteria based on potential predictive rules.

Abstract: We have previously reported protection against hypoxic injury by a cell-permeable, mitochondrially-targeted δPKC-d subunit of F1Fo ATPase (dF1Fo) interaction inhibitor [NH2-YGRKKRRQRRRMLA TRALSLIGKRAISTSVCAGRKLALKTIDWVSFDYKDDDDK?-COOH]in neonatal cardiac myo-cytes. In the present work we demonstrate the partitioning of this peptide to the inner membrane and matrix of mitochondria when it is perfused into isolated rat hearts. We also used ammonium sulfate ((NH4)2SO4) and chloroform/methanol precipitation of heart effluents to demonstrate reduced card-iac troponin I (cTnI) release from ischemic rat hearts perfused with this inhibitor. 50% (NH4)2SO4 saturation of perfusates collected from Langendorff rat heart preparations optimally precipitated cTnI, allowing its detection in Western blots. In hearts receiving 20 min of ischemia followed by 30, or 60 min of reperfusion, the Mean±S.E. (n = 5) percentage of maximal cTnI release was 30±7 and 60±17, respectively, with additional cTnI release occurring after 150 min of reperfusion. Perfusion of hearts with the δPKC-dF1Fo interaction inhibitor, prior to 20 min of ischemia and 60–150 min of reperfusion, reduced cTnI release by 80%. Additionally, we found that when soybean trypsin inhibitor (SBTI), was added to rat heart effluents, it could also be precipitated using (NH4)2SO4 and detected in western blots. This provided a convenient method for normalizing protein recoveries between groups. Our results support the further development of the δPKC-dF1Fo inhibitor as a potential therapeutic for combating cardiac ischemic injury. In addition, we have developed an improved method for the detection of cTnI release from perfused rat hearts.
