Association of serum osteoprotegerin with vascular calcification in patients with type 2 diabetes

Abstract: The subjects were 124 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, including 88 males and 36 females with a mean (± SD) age of 65.6 ± 8.2 years old. Serum levels of osteoprotegerin, osteocalcin, fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23), 25-hydroxyvitamin D3 and adiponectin were measured by ELISA. Vascular calcification in the cervical artery was examined by ultrasound sonography. The subjects were divided into 4 quartiles depending on serum osteoprotegerin levels.Vascular calcification was significantly higher in the 4th quartile and significantly lower in the 1st quartile of serum osteoprotegerin levels, compared to other quartiles. There were no differences in serum osteoprotegerin and vascular calcification among patients with different stages of diabetic nephropathy, but serum FGF23 levels were elevated in those with stage 4 diabetic nephropathy. Simple regression analysis showed that serum osteoprotegerin levels had significant positive correlations with age, systolic blood pressure and serum adiponectin levels, and significant negative correlations with BMI and serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D3.These findings suggest that elevated serum osteoprotegerin may be involved in vascular calcification independently of progression of diabetic nephropathy in patients with type 2 diabetes.Atherosclerosis, macroangiopathy and microangiopathy are major prognostic factors in diabetes. Vascular endothelial impairment is the initial pathological change and is profoundly involved in development of atherosclerosis [1-4]. Progression of diabetic nephropathy, including microalbuminuria, is a risk factor for atherosclerosis in type 2 diabetes mellitus [5,6] and diabetic patients with advanced nephropathy (particularly those on dialysis with end-stage kidney disease) often have vascular calcification [7-10]. Abstract: The emission of the traditional energy chemical industry accounts for 20% of the total manmade VOC emission in China, of which coal chemical and petrochemical plants are one of the most important VOC emission sources. VOC emission sources mainly include the leakage of oil refinery units and equipment, pipes and valves, respiration and leakage of various types of storage tanks, effusion of oils during loading and unloading, effusion of sewage treatment systems, all kinds of process tail gas, etc. In this paper, the current management status of VOC emission in China’s coal chemical industry and petrochemical industry are analyzed, which divides VOC management into intentional and fugitive emission. The Leak Detection and Repair (LDAR) management method and technology for equipment, pipes and valves implemented in the United States are studied to propose self-inspection management methods and measures for VOC emissions in the energy chemical industry, providing strategies and recommendations for energy conservation, emission reduction and cleaner production in the traditional energy chemical industry.
An Empirical Study of the Relationship between Transportation and Economic Growth in Xinjiang Province

Abstract: Along with the development of socialist market economy and the improvement of transportation facilities, the driving effect of transportation industry on economic growth tends to be more significant. The transportation industry is the lifeline of national economic growth and the backbone of material activities and community communication, signalizing the development of national economy. Highly- developed transportation industry has important strategic meanings for a country’s economic prosperity, cultural development, strong defense, and people’s well-off life. Based on the grey system theory and econometrics, this paper analyzes the contributing effect of the transportation industry on Xinjiang’s regional economic growth, and studies the relationship between indexes of Xinjiang’s transportation industry and economic growth, supplying references for researching Xinjiang’s regional economic development.

This paper, based on the relationship between Xinjiang regional economic development and education, analyzes the present conditions of Xinjiang educational investment, the scale and problems of Xinjiang education, the contribution of education to Xinjiang economy, and how to drive Xinjiang regional economic development. Finally, this paper puts forward relevant policy suggestions as future references.

Abstract: Phosphorus has been closely associated with eutrophication, a growing ecological problem globally. Because bacterial and algae responds to organic and inorganic nutrients differently, developing an accurate analytical method for the determination of dissolved inorganic phosphorus (DIP) and dissolved organic phosphorus (DOP) is critical for understanding eutrophication. This paper describes analytical variations observed in laboratory experiments for the determination of DIP and DOP. Several experimental parameters including phosphorus reagents’ temperature, water sample matrix, pH, and autoclave methods are investigated. With the optimization of the autoclave procedure, the recoveries of 8 model organic phosphorus compounds (i.e. adenosine-5-triphosphate di-sodium salt (ATP), phytic acid (PTA), sodium tripolyphosphate (STP), methyltriphenylphosphonium bromide (MPT), p-nitrophenyl phosphate magnesium salt (p-NPP), β-D-glucose-6-phosphate monosodium salt (G-6-P) and cocarboxylase (COCA)) are all well above 90% indicating significant analytical method improvement.
Sodium resonance lidar observations during 2001 Leonid meteor shower over Wuhan

Abstract: Here is the first report on the observation of meteor ablation trails with lidar in China. Four long-lived Na ablation trails were observed during the 18/19 Nov. 2001 Leonid meteor shower with a sodium resonance lidar over Wuhan. The mean altitude of the 4 trails is 97.95 km, consistent with Leonid high entry velocity (~72 km/s). The peak density averages about 3380±3633 cm 3, and the abundance is (2.33 ±1.49) ×108 cm 2, both of which are higher than those previously observed for sporadic meteor trails. The RMS width is 359 m and the meteor’s age is 81 min, indicating that they are long duration meteor trails. These observation results are quite different from those of sporadic meteor trails, but comparable to the 1998 and 1999 Leonid report. Five night observations from 17 Nov. to 23 Nov. suggest that the 2001 Leonid meteor shower does not have a significant impact on the abundance of the background Na layer.

Abstract: The theory of impulsive state feedback control is used to establish a mathematical model in the pest management strategy. Then, the qualitative analysis of the mathematical model was provided. Here, a successor function in the geometry theory of differential equations is used to prove the sufficient conditions for uniqueness of the 1-periodic solution. It proved the orbital asymptotic stability of the periodic solution. In addition, numerical analysis is used to discuss the application significance of the mathematical model in the pest management strategy. 1. Introduction Impulse is an interference in the thing at a short time in the course of its development. It is a method of external control. This kind of method is widely used in biological control, prevention of epidemic, cancer cells of chemotherapeutics, and so on. We use impulsive differential equation to reflect the method of external control. We can use impulsive differential equation to describe some biological phenomena in population ecology. There are mainly two kinds of impulsive differential equation. One kind is fixed times impulsive differential equation, and the other kind is differential system with state impulses. In the recent thirty years, many authors have studied the impulsive differential equation [1–5]. They obtained some theories of impulsive differential equation; particularly the theory of fixed times impulsive differential equation is widely used in population ecology. Many authors have studied the dynamics of predator-prey models with impulsive control strategies [6–12]. Pest management is a focus which people are concerned with. Because the technological revolutions have recently hit the industrial world and the experience and lessons are accumulated, the ideology and strategy of pest management have changed a lot. Pest management changes from chemical control to integrated control. It is fully integrated into the development of agriculture and forestry sustainability. The study of pest management strategy has good application value and significant agriculture production. In the past few decades, many authors have made a lot of research and discussion it [13]. There are two major methods of pest management. The first is chemical control. It means that the main method to control the amount of pests is spraying insecticide. But its drawback is that it will cause pollution to the environment. In addition, spray insecticide will kill natural enemies and other beneficial organisms. Predicting protein contact map using evolutionary and physical constraints by integer programming (extended version)

Abstract: Motivation. Protein contact map describes the pairwise spatial and functional relationship of residues in a protein and contains key information for protein 3D structure prediction. Although studied extensively, it remains very challenging to predict contact map using only sequence information. Most existing methods predict the contact map matrix element-by-element, ignoring correlation among contacts and physical feasibility of the whole contact map. A couple of recent methods predict contact map based upon residue co-evolution, taking into consideration contact correlation and enforcing a sparsity restraint, but these methods require a very large number of sequence homologs for the protein under consideration and the resultant contact map may be still physically unfavorable. Results. This paper presents a novel method PhyCMAP for contact map prediction, integrating both evolutionary and physical restraints by machine learning and integer linear programming (ILP). The evolutionary restraints include sequence profile, residue co-evolution and context-specific statistical potential. The physical restraints specify more concrete relationship among contacts than the sparsity restraint. As such, our method greatly reduces the solution space of the contact map matrix and thus, significantly improves prediction accuracy. Experimental results confirm that PhyCMAP outperforms currently popular methods no matter how many sequence homologs are available for the protein under consideration. PhyCMAP can predict contacts within minutes after PSIBLAST search for sequence homologs is done, much faster than the two recent methods PSICOV and EvFold.
