Marques, Silvio Alencar;Silva, Sabrina Bortoletto Gomes da;Camargo, Rosangela Maria Pires de;Stolf, Hamilton Ometto;Marques, Mariangela Esther Alencar;
Anais Brasileiros de Dermatologia , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S0365-05962012000300016
Abstract: malassezia folliculitis is an inflammatory disorder observed in both immunocompetent and immunosuppressed patients. the authors describe an unusual and exuberant presumed case affecting the face, trunk and upper limbs of a 12-year-old nonimmunosuppressed patient. although the agent was not identified by culture, the clinical and histopathological aspects plus the response to specific treatment support the diagnosis of malassezia folliculitis. the only possible predisponent cause observed on the patient was greasy skin. repetitive cultures were negative. treatment with itraconazol promoted apparent cure, however, the patient relapsed twelve months later.

Abstract: we report the case of a 58-year-old white female with parkinson's disease. she evolved to an extensive livedo reticularis in the limbs and abdomen after commencing treatment with amantadine. we discuss the diagnostic approach to livedo reticularis and its differential diagnoses, emphasizing that the drug etiology must be considered when investigating livedo reticularis.

Abstract: Efficient honey production requires knowledge about the behavior of the workers and the parameters that influence the strength of the colony. In this study, the objective was to analyze the interaction between the foraging behavior of worker honeybees and pollen storage levels in Africanized honeybees colonies. Colonies with low pollen storage increased pollen intake rates, but this value was 15% lower than colonies with high pollen storage, demonstrating a direct relationship between the pollen storage levels and foraging activity. The difference in pollen intake rates varied according to the number of foraging honeybees and pollen load collected by each individual. Under both high and low pollen storage, colonies returned pollen storage to initial level within 16 days, suggesting that honeybees regulate pollen storage levels around a homeostatic set point. Relationship between pollen storage levels and colony brood production was also found, indicating how alterations in the behavior of each individual can affect the strength of the colony.

Tooth decay affects most of the population in developed countries. The multifactorial etiology of the disease includes multiple bacterial species, S. mutans is the main pathogen associated with the disease. This bacterium adheres to the tooth surface and allows the colonization of other microorganisms resulting in dental biofilm. Several therapeutic agents are available to treat or prevent tooth decay, but none, with the exception of fluoride, has significantly influenced the disease’s global burden. Moreover, the probable development of resistance of microorganisms to existing antibacterial agents and the scarcity of good antimicrobial agents motivates this effort for innovation. The detailed knowledge obtained in recent years on the S. mutans allowed the identification of potential targets in this microorganism, enabling the development of specific drugs to combat tooth decay. Thus, the identification of potential targets in these pathogens is the first step in the discovery process of new therapeutic agents. Currently, the experimental assays used for this purpose are expensive and time consuming. In contrast, bioinformatics methods to predict drug targets are cheap, quick and workaday in the biotechnology. This article will review the potential drug targets in S. mutans, as well as the bioinformatics methods used to identify these targets and effective drugs for specific pharmacological treatment of dental caries.

RSBO , 2009,
Abstract: Introduction:Osseointegrated implants were introduced in thebeginning of the 80s, allowing other alternatives in the prostheticrehabilitation treatment.Many conventional prostheses’problems weresolved by osseointegration.However,some aesthetic,phonetic,functional,biological and mechanical complications may happen if aproper treatment planning is not made prior to the patient’s surgery.Objective:The aim of this study was to report the removal of dentalimplants badly located due to the lack of previous planningcontraindicating the prosthetic rehabilitation.Case report:Femalepatient,36 years-old, was submitted to removal surgery of two dentalimplants,due to inadequate position and lack of osseointegration.Conclusion:The use of all available diagnostic methods duringplanning, associated to adequate clinical approach,is very importantto the success of the treatment with implants,avoiding the need forremoval and substitution.

We aimed with this study to evaluate the potential of oilseed crops planted following soybean, in terms of their ability to inhibit the occurrence of weed species under Brazilian Savannah cropping systems. The long-term experiment was installed in 2010 at Dourados, MS, Brazil, and in completely randomized blocks design with five replications with 12 × 24 m plot size. For three consecutive years (2010/11, 2011/12 and 2012/13), soybeans were planted in all the area by October/November being harvested in February/March, when previously marked plots were planted in April with: (1) radish (Raphanus sativus); (2) rapeseed (Brassica napus); (3) crambe (Crambe abyssinica); (4) winter fallow-no plantation after soybeans. In all years the same crop was repeated at the same plots, with no crop rotation. Phytosociological characterization of weed species was carried out in winter (after oilseeds harvest), pre-planting and post-emergence of soybean for the three years. Relative abundance, frequency and dominance, as well as the importance value for each species, was obtained. Areas were also intra-characterized by the coefficients of Simpson, Shannon-Weiner and Shannon-Weiner’s Evenness Proportion, and areas were compared for species dissimilarity with Jaccard’s presence-only coefficient, by multivariate cluster analysis. Oilseed crops definitely contribute for sustainable weed management as a cultural tool. The most important oilseed crop weeds in the Savannah-like region of Brazil were Amaranthus hybridus, Richardia brasiliensis, Lepidium virginicum, Leonotis nepetifolia and Hybanthus parviflorus

Abstract: quantitative and descriptive study aiming to identify socioeconomic characteristics of men and women with a history of domestic violence. we conducted interviews with 50 men and 50 women. nearly all subjects were self-declared black. most did not have too many years of school education. men perform occupations that are public and women do predominantly domestic activities. only 3 women (6%) are considered financially independent. the degree of economic dependence is directly related to the level of education that has been established as a prerequisite to enter into the labor market. the situation is even more precarious for women interviewed with fewer years of education and a high degree of financial dependence that interferes with their empowerment to address domestic violence. health professionals, especially nurses, should address the social inequities and improve the socioeconomic context of users to identify situations that endanger the health of the population.

Movimento , 2011,
