Oxylopsebus brachypterus: a new genus and species of Oxycoleini (Coleoptera, Cerambycidae, Cerambycinae) from Bolivia
Clarke, Robin O. S.;
Papéis Avulsos de Zoologia (S?o Paulo) , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S0031-10492008000900001
Abstract: oxylopsebus brachypterus new genus and species from humid tropical forest, department of santa cruz, bolivia is described and illustrated. although with reduced elytra, the genus is placed in oxycoleini based on the following characters: female urosternites modified, the first as long as the second to fourth together, the second with a brush for covering the eggs with detritus after being laid; the male with six visible urosternites, the first twice as long as the second; eyes with superior lobes; prothorax divergent behind, disc of pronotum with calli; procoxal cavities closed behind. oxylopsebus gen. nov. would seem to fall between the oxycoleini and psebiini and be less closely related to the obriini and luscosmodicini, the four tribes in which the females have modified urosternites (the " obriini group" sensu martins, 2003). all the specimens were netted as they visited flowers of the vine serjania lethalis (sapindaceae).

Abstract: paraeclipta gen. nov. is described to allocate five new species, and ten transferred from eclipta bates, 1873: p. cabrujai sp. nov.; p. clementecruzi sp. nov.; p. melgarae sp. nov.; p. tomhacketti sp. nov.; p. moscosoi sp. nov.; p. bicoloripes (zajciw, 1965), comb. nov.; p. croceicornis (gounelle, 1911), comb. nov.; p. flavipes (melzer, 1922), comb. nov.; p. jejuna (gounelle, 1911), comb. nov.; p. kawensis (pe?aherrera-leiva & tavakilian, 2004), comb. nov.; p. longipennis (fisher, 1947), comb. nov.; p. rectipennis (zajciw, 1965), comb. nov.; p. soumourouensis (tavakilian & pe?aherrera-leiva, 2003), comb. nov.; p. tenuis (burmeister, 1865), comb. nov.; and p. unicoloripes (zajciw, 1965), comb. nov. the bolivian species are illustrated. a key to their identification and host flower records are provided.
Bolivian Rhinotragini I: new species of Ecliptoides Tavakilian & Pe?aherrera-Leiva, 2005 new status, and Clepitoides new genus (Coleoptera, Cerambycidae)
Clarke, Robin O. S.;
Papéis Avulsos de Zoologia (S?o Paulo) , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S0031-10492009004300001
Abstract: the subgenus ommata (ecliptoides) is redefined and raised to generic status, ecliptoides tavakilian & pe?aherrera-leiva, 2005 stat. nov. with three new species: e. julietae, e. titoi and e. vargasi. a new genus, clepitoides, is described with three new species: c. anae, c. gerardi and c. neei. the new species are illustrated, a key to the species and host-flower records provided.
New and newly illustrated Gnomidolon Thomson (Coleoptera, Cerambycidae, Hexoplonini) from Bolivia
Clarke, Robin O. S.;
Revista Brasileira de Entomologia , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S0085-56262007000300001
Abstract: three new species of gnomidolon thomson, 1864 (coleoptera, cerambycidae, hexoplonini) from bolivia are described and illustrated, and g. proseni martins, 1962 is redefined. photographs of g. proseni and four other bolivian species of this genus are provided: g. bonsae martins, 1967, g. nanum martins, 1962, g. musivum (erichson, 1847), and both pale and dark forms of g. wappesi martins, 2006.
Brachylophora, a new brachypterous genus of Rhopalophorini (Coleoptera, Cerambycidae)
Clarke, Robin O. S.;
Revista Brasileira de Entomologia , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S0085-56262011005000001
Abstract: brachylophora, a new brachypterous genus of rhopalophorini (coleoptera, cerambycidae). brachylophora auricollis (bruch, 1918) comb. nov. = pasiphyle auricollis bruch, 1918, originally described from argentina (salta), is redescribed and illustrated. although with reduced elytra, the genus is transferred from rhinotragini to rhopalophorini based on the following characters: eyes well separated in both sexes, frons between eyes depressed and lacking frontal suture; pro-, meso-, and metasternum planar; mesothorax parallel-sided, not at all declivous before mesosternal process; metasternum large, together with mesosternum twice length of prosternum, metepisternum very wide, entire suture separating it from metasternum clearly visible when viewed from below; female ovipositor shortened with short cylindrical styles; and, more generally, structural features of hind legs, and surface ornamentation. habitus similar to coremia group. bolivian specimens were netted as they visited flowers of croton sp. (euphorbiaceae).
Introducing multivator : A Multivariate Emulator
Robin K. S. Hankin
Journal of Statistical Software , 2012,
Abstract: A multivariate generalization of the emulator technique described byHankin (2005) is presented in which random multivariate functions may be assessed. In the standard univariate case (Oakley 1999), a Gaussian process, a nite number of observations is made; here, observations of different types are considered. The technique has the property that marginal analysis (that is, considering only a single observation type) reduces exactly to the univariate theory. The associated software is used to analyze datasets from the field of climate change.
A Generalization of the Dirichlet Distribution
Robin K. S. Hankin
Journal of Statistical Software , 2010,
Abstract: This paper discusses a generalization of the Dirichlet distribution, the ‘hyperdirichlet’, in which various types of incomplete observations may be incorporated. It is conjugate to the multinomial distribution when some observations are censored or grouped. The hyperdirichlet R package is introduced and examples given. A number of statistical tests are performed on the example datasets, which are drawn from diverse disciplines including sports statistics, the sociology of climate change, and psephology.
Introducing untb, an R Package For Simulating Ecological Drift Under the Unified Neutral Theory of Biodiversity
Robin K. S. Hankin
Journal of Statistical Software , 2007,
Abstract: The distribution of abundance amongst species with similar ways of life is a classical problem in ecology. The unified neutral theory of biodiversity, due to Hubbell, states that observed population dynamics may be explained on the assumption of per capita equivalence amongst individuals. One can thus dispense with differences between species, and differences between abundant and rare species: all individuals behave alike in respect of their probabilities of reproducing and death. It is a striking fact that such a parsimonious theory results in a non-trivial dominancediversity curve (that is, the simultaneous existence of both abundant and rare species) and even more striking that the theory predicts abundance curves that match observations across a wide range of ecologies. This paper introduces the untb package of R routines, for numerical simulation of ecological drift under the unified neutral theory. A range of visualization, analytical, and simulation tools are provided in the package and these are presented with examples in the paper.
