Alergia a veneno de himenópteros na crian a =Hymenoptera venom allergy in children
Santos, Sónia et al.
Scientia Medica , 2012,
Aims: Allergy to hymenoptera venom may restrict a child’s life significantly. It is intended, with the exposure of two clinical cases and a brief review on the topic, emphasizing the importance of referral of these children to specialized care for early desensitization. Cases description: Two children, at three and six years, had anaphylactic reaction to wasp and bee stings, respectively. In both cases, after the determination of specific IgE and allergologic confirmation, desensitization with hymenoptera venom in ultra-rush regimen was done, without relevant side effect apart from swelling at the injection site. After twelve months of injections every four weeks, the children are now receiving maintenance injections every six weeks. In the first case, the child was stung by wasp at ten months of immunotherapy, triggering only small local reaction. Conclusions: In both cases, the subcutaneous venom immunotherapy with ultra-rush regimen was safe and effective, providing the comfort of a smaller number of injections and hospital visits during the induction phase. Maintenance therapy has demonstrated a protective effect on re-exposure to the poison in one child.
The purpose of the present investigation was to analyze the possibility of association between mother’s oral habits and children’s oral habits. This transversal retrospective epidemiological study was made using a pre-tested questionnaire. Two hundred and eight (208) mothers were interviewed at the clinic’s waiting room by the Odontopediatrics and Orthodontics Department of Federal University of Minas Gerais (FOUFMG). The collected data was submitted to statistical analysis and the tests applied were the Chi-squares (χ2) and The Odds Ratio. The pacifier was noticed to be the most frequent childhood habit between mothers and their children (46,6% and 66,4% respectively). Nail biting was the most frequent actual habit present in the 2 groups (38,7% mothers and 32,7% children). It was verified that when mothers used to suck a pacifier during their childhood, their children had 3,4 times more chances to have the same habit, comparing to those children who mothers’ didn’t use to suck the pacifier

Bitter Honey Intoxication and Hazardous Arrhythmias: Two Cases
Ozturk S et al.
Konuralp Tip Dergisi , 2011,
Abstract: Bitter-honey is named as a kind of honey which is produced by beesfrom the nectar of Rhododendron luteum and Rhododendron ponticumcontaining grayanotoxin. The patients with bitter honey intoxicationadmit to emergency room with heart symptoms including bradycardia, hypotension and syncope. These symptoms are mainly due to heartconduction defects such as complete AV block, asystole, and sinusbradycardia. Herein, we presented two cases with bitter-honeyintoxication. Although symptoms presented by patients were similar intwo cases, different conduction disorders including high-degree AVblock and complete AV block were seen in first case, and nodal rhythmwere seen in second case. In conclusion, the physicians should managethe patients with similar symptoms on admission for life-threateningarrhythmias due to bitter honey intoxication.
A Rare Cause of Foot Pain in the Emergency Room: an Aortic Dissection Case
Korkut S et al.
Konuralp Tip Dergisi , 2010,
Abstract: Aortic dissection is a fatal condition that can originate from any point of the aorta between the root of the aorta and iliac bifurcation so it necessitates early diagnosis and treatment. The most common sign is pain and it may appear in the chest, neck, back or interscapular area. Additionally, it may present with anxiety, syncope or high blood pressure. In this article, we aimed to present a 46 year old female patient admitted to our emergency department due to paresthesia and pain in the right foot and took the diagnosis of DeBakey Type 1 aortic dissection.

Abstract: Acute coronary syndrome with thrombus in more than one vessel is arare clinical and angiographic situation. But generally this situation may progress to mortality because of the affected myocardial tissue's size. We aimed to present three patients with acute coronary syndrome who have thrombus in two vessels and treated successfully.
The One phase surgical approach of simultaneous right pulmonary and hepatic hydatid cysts through the transthoracic route
Karapolat S et al.
Konuralp Tip Dergisi , 2010,
Abstract: Simultaneous right lung and liver dome hydatid cyst lesions is to be found as frequently. A 23-year-old female patient was operated by right thoracotomy and phrenotomy due to ruptured hydatid cyst on lateral basal segment of lower lobe of the right lung and intact hydatid cyst on right lobe of the liver. No recurrence was observed clinically and radiologically during 3 months of follow-up period. The surgical approach of simultaneous right pulmonary and hepatic hydatid cysts through the transthoracic route is a safe technique and also has a positive effect on the patient’s life comfort.
Influence of functional silanes on hydrophobicity of MCM-41 synthesized from rice husk
S. Chiarakorn et al
Science and Technology of Advanced Materials , 2007,
Abstract: Mesoporous molecular sieve MCM-41 was synthesized from rice husk and rice husk ash, called RH-MCM-41 and RHA-MCM-41. The sol–gel mixtures were prepared with molar composition of 1.0 SiO2: 1.1 NaOH: 0.13 CTAB: 0.12 H2O. After calcination, the polarity of MCM-41 still remained on its surface due to the existence of some silanol groups. In this study, both RH-MCM-41 and RHA-MCM-41 were silylated with two different functional silanes trimethylchlorosilane (TMCS) and phenyldimethylchlorosilane (PDMS) in order to reduce the surface polarity. The efficiency of silylation was determined based on the amount of moisture adsorbed using thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The structure of silylating agents and silica templates were found to be important parameters affecting the hydrophobic property of the MCM-41 surface. The post-grafting silylation with aliphatic silane can decrease the surface polarity better than that with aromatic silane, probably due to less sterric hindrance effect. Thus, the surface hydrophobicity of MCM-41 can be improved by the silylation of small molecular silane on RH-MCM-41.
Consolidation of nanocrystalline hydroxyapatite powder
S. Ramesh et al
Science and Technology of Advanced Materials , 2007,
Abstract: The effect of sintering temperature on the sinterability of synthesized nanocrystalline hydroxyapatite (HA) was investigated. The starting powder was synthesized via a novel wet chemical route. HA green compacts were prepared and sintered in atmospheric condition at various temperatures ranging from 900–1300 °C. The results revealed that the thermal stability of HA phase was not disrupted throughout the sintering regime employed. In general, the results showed that above 98% of theoretical density coupled with hardness of 7.21 GPa, fracture toughness of 1.17 MPa m1/2 and Young's modulus of above 110 GPa were obtained for HA sintered at temperature as low as 1050 °C. Although the Young's modulus increased with increasing bulk density, the hardness and fracture toughness of the sintered material started to decline when the temperature was increased beyond 1000–1050 °C despite exhibiting high densities >98% of theoretical value. The occurrence of this phenomenon is believed to be associated with a thermal-activated grain growth process.

Abstract: Nature has always been stands as a golden mark to amplify the outstanding phenomenon of symbiosis. Ayurvedic remedies for diabetes are usually mixed formulations containing blood sugar lowering herbs in combinations with immunomodulator, detoxicants with the rationale behind such formulations being provided by modern research. Polyherbal formulations have plant-based pharmacological agents which may exert synergistic, potentiative, agonistic antagonistic actions by virtue of its diverse active principles within themselves. These pharmacological principles work together in a dynamic way to produce maximum therapeutic efficiency with minimum side effects. Medicinal plants existing even before human being made their appearance on the earth. The development procedures of herbal drugs for world-wide use has to been different form that of synthetic drugs. The raw materials for Ayurvedic medicines were mostly obtained from plant sources in the form of crude drugs such as dried herbal powders or their extracts or mixture of products or mixture of product. Apart from these systems there has been a rich heritage of Ethno-botanical usage of herbs by various colorful tribal communities in the country. Hence, the present review provides the supportive evidence consideration of a therapeutic approach combining the beneficial effects of Polyherbal preparation in association with adaptive physical activity for effective management of diabetic complications.
