Experimental Infection of Calomys callosus (Rodentia, Cricetidae) by Toxoplasma gondii
Favoreto-Junior Sílvio,AV Ferro Eloísa,Clemente Diogo,Silva Deise AO
Memórias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz , 1998,
Abstract: Calomys callosus, Rengger 1830 (Rodentia, Cricetidae), a wild rodent found in Central Brazil, was studied to investigate its susceptibility to Toxoplasma gondii experimental infection and its humoral immune response against this protozoa. The electrophoretic profile of the serum proteins of C. callosus showed that IgG, which shows no affinity to Protein A, has higher cross reactivity with rat IgG than with IgG from other rodents. The susceptibility assay was performed by inoculation groups of animals with various suspensions of T. gondii tachyzoites from 102 to 106 parasites. All animals died between 3 and 9 days after infection and the kinetics of antibody synthesis was determined. Basically, they recognized predominantly the immunodominant antigen SAG-1 (P30). The immunohistochemistry assays revealed that the liver was the most heavily infected organ, followed by the spleen, lungs, intestine, brain and kidneys. It can be concluded that C. callosus is an excellent experimental model for acute phase of Toxoplasma infection

Abstract: Mif was immunolocalized at implantation sites on gestation days (gd) 7.5, 10.5, 13.5 and 17.5. Ectoplacental cones and fetal placentas dissected from the maternal tissues were used for Western blotting and qRT-PCR assays on the same gestation days.During the post-implantation period (gd7.5), trophoblast giant cells showed strong Mif reactivity. In later placentation phases (gds 10.5-17.5), Mif appeared to be concentrated in the junctional zone and trophoblast giant cells. Mif protein expression increased significantly from gd7.5 to 10.5 (p = 0.005) and from gd7.5 to 13.5 (p = 0.03), remaining at high concentration as gestation proceeded. Higher mRNA expression was found on gd10.5 and was significantly different from gd13.5 (p = 0.048) and 17.5 (p = 0.009).The up-regulation of Mif on gd10.5 coincides with the stage in which the placenta assumes its three-layered organization (giant cells, spongiotrophoblast and labyrinth zones), fetal blood circulation begins and population of uNK cells reaches high proportions at the maternal counter part of the placenta, suggesting that Mif may play a role in either the placentation or in the adaptation of the differentiated placenta to the uterus or still in gestational immunomodulatory responses. Moreover, it reinforces the possibility of specific activities for Mif at the maternal fetal interface.Macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) is a widely-expressed pleiotropic cytokine, exhibiting a broad range of roles that include pro-inflammatory activities in innate and acquired immunity, glucocorticoid antagonism [1-5], cell proliferation and survival [6-8], cell migration [9,10], modulation of NK-associated immune responses [11], DNA damage response and proteasomal control of the cell cycle [12]. It is constitutively expressed by a wide variety of cells [2,13] and can be either continuously expressed and secreted or stored intracellularly [2].MIF has been particularly studied during an inflammatory response. Modernidade/pós-modernidade: tens?es e repercuss?es na produ??o de conhecimento em educa??o
Gallo, Sílvio;
Educa??o e Pesquisa , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S1517-97022006000300009
Abstract: the article discusses the repercussions that the debate around the overcoming of modernity and the supposed coming of postmodernity has brought to education as a field of knowledge, and more particularly to the research in this field. a critical discussion is made of the thesis that we live in postmodernity, placing emphasis on this statement in the sphere of social thinking, especially for understanding that such expression does not have the strength and intensity of a philosophical concept, resulting devoid of meaning. it is stressed that of the first uses of that expression in the field of philosophy, by lyotard, was as an adjective, and not as a noun, which is significantly different. moving beyond the debate about the end of modernity or otherwise, the notion of hypermodernity proposed by lipovetsky is adopted as a way of characterizing the contemporary world and trying to understand its implications. notwithstanding that, the author recognizes the important contributions of the thesis that affirms postmodernity, especially in its epistemological and political aspects, in so far as it represents a shift of the focus of analysis. the text characterizes the current debate as the tension between two images of the thought that are not at all new, but that have gained special attention in contemporaneity, defending that we must accept this tension in what it brings in terms of a creative possibility, without paralyzing the thought.
A Institui??o total como agência de produ??o de subjetividade na sociedade disciplinar
Benelli, Sílvio José;
Estudos de Psicologia (Campinas) , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-166X2004000300008
Abstract: goffman's insights about foucault' s analyses can provide a considerable achievement about the subjectivity production processes knowledge in the contemporary society and, mainly at total institutions context, where they are so present. we consider that goffman's institutional analyses is between the macro (molar) and micro spheres of the phenomenon, that happen in closed institutions. he analyzes the non-discoursive practices, and subtlety articulates them, as the daily, apparently insignificant and bizarre "details" from institutional context makes us to realize the intra-institutional relations of microphysics plan, dipping into different strategies in which power itself branches, circulates, dominates and produces knowledges and subjects. we might say that goffman has already introduced the idea of power as a dynamical relation of strategies always achieved at all parts and places. foucault, reveals us how possible are disciplinary institutions and their reasons for emerging. they both are outstanding references to the institutional analyses.
A cultura psicológica no mercado de bensde saúde mental contemporaneo
Benelli, Sílvio José;
Estudos de Psicologia (Campinas) , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-166X2009000400012
Abstract: we studied the hypothesis of psychological culture proposed by castel, 1987, by seeking to understand the current transformations in the social field and its occurrence in the areas of mental health (psychiatry, psychoanalysis, psychology). the emergence of a new psychological cluster devoted to developing and improving the potential of the human being would aim towards the infinite programming of the human being, in the transition from a disciplinary society to one of control. with this perspective, psychology as a profession would be overcoming treatment and prevention, being redirected towards creating a relational sociability: clinical philosophy could be considered a therapeutic mode for normal people, and enneagram and neuro-linguistic programming as psychotherapeutic systems seeking to guide the human being towards global self-development. we decoded their strategic function, while they were situated in the broader context of the current form of risk management in the administration of problematic populations.
Experiências de cavalos para citrus I
Moreira, Sílvio;
Bragantia , 1941, DOI: 10.1590/S0006-87051941000800001
Abstract: 1 - the present paper deals with the first results of an extensive study on the relations between stock and scion in citrus, in progress at the experiment station of limeira, of the instituto agron?mico of campinas, s?o paulo, brazil, since 1933. 2 - all the scions used belong to three commercial varieties : baianinha (orange, derived from "washington navel"), pera (orange, similar to valencia) and pomelo (grape-fruit "marsh-seedless") were collected in each case from one individual of each type. 3 - the following 12 stock were studied : laranja azeda (sour orange) laranja agro-doce (bitter sweet orange) laranja caipira (sweet orange) laranja lima (sweet orange) tangerina cravo (tangerine) lim?o cravo (rangpur lime) lim?o rugoso (rough lemon) lim?o ponderosa (ponderosa lemon) lima da pérsia (sweet lime) pomelo (grape-fruit triumph) cidra (citron) trifoliata (poncirus trifoliata). all plants obtained came from seeds of one tree of each type, from unprotected flowers however. 4 - data referring to the number of seeds per fruit, germination, polyembriony and classification according to size are given (quadro i). the mean height of the plants obtained after 6 months and 2 years nursery are to be found in quadro ii. 5 - twelve hundred individuals of each root stock were selected according to their uniform development, in accordance with webber (25) and on 40 of each buds of the three scions were grafted. as measure of the development the circumference of the stock at a height of 20 cm and that of the scion at a height of 40 cm were used (quadros iv to ix). 6 - an analysis of variance "between" and "within" root stocks (quadro vi) showed in all cases a significant high variation "between" stock. in all cases, the scions were thinner than the stocks (quadro ix), the indices scion-stock varying from ca. 0,5 to 0,8. the respective means are to be found in quadro iv and v. 7 - there is also a consistent and significant difference between scions as shown by the values in quadr
Investiga??o sobre a forma??o do clero católico num seminário teológico
Benelli, Sílvio José;
Psicologia em Estudo , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-73722009000100020
Abstract: we sought to execute a psychosocial analysis of a theological catholic seminary where live 50 seminarians in boarding system, at the final stage of formation to priesthood; once ordained, they will be settled in relevant positions that comprise in the coordination of large parish communities. applying a theoretical tool of institutional analysis, we mapped institutional subjectivityoperators from the pedagogical device in the seminary. we show data related to participative observation obtained in research field. besides the operators present in the official and institutional discourse, we found out that the seminary contrives in daily practice other procedures, which may be designated as totalitarian and disciplinary, producing a priest with clerical profile.
Avalia??o entre ?pares? na ciência e na academia: aspectos clandestinos de um julgamento nem sempre científico, acadêmico ou ?de avalia??o?
Botomé, Sílvio Paulo;
Psicologia USP , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-65642011005000013
Abstract: the assessment of academic work cannot be reduced to the measures. but there is an extensive “naturalization” of procedures that are not driven every respect constituting this “evaluation”. one aspect of this “naturalization has been slow and subtle substitution of debate and criticism of academic studies for its simple display, publication or presentation with examination more administrative than academic. the “peer reviews” has been a requirement with problems. they include the anonymity of the appraiser and it allows many “deviations” for an assessment of political, ideological or even personal. the tendency toward hegemony of groups is one of the problems. the recent proliferation of academic societies (or scientific), academic or professional journals, the publication requirements (number of titles) as a criterion for contests, promotions, financial aid or scholarships has increased the bureaucracy to administer it with a possible prejudice to the existing distortions to the development of science.
O seminário católico e a forma??o sacerdotal: um estudo psicossocial
Benelli, Sílvio José;
Psicologia USP , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-65642006000300011
Abstract: in this reserch we did an institutional analyses, which aims is to examine the catholic ecclesiastical formation practices by means of institutional functioning from a catholic seminary and the register of the ecclesiastical knowledge, producer of a specific subjectivity pattern (future priests). by observing the everyday of that establishment, the semi-structured interviews with institution actors, the analyses of official documents of the catholic ministry and relevant literature, we looked for understanding the formation relationship between priests responsible for the formation and seminarians concerning to a privileged and constitutive device of the seminary as an agent producer of subjectivity. thus we come to the conclusion that the seminary focused can be considered as a common disciplinary institution, which maintains the report as its main mechanism and microphysics device (exam tool, surveillance and normal process sanction).
