Southwick, Sílvia Barcellos;
Ciência da Informa??o , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-19652006000200011
Abstract: this paper describes a project led by the instituto brasileiro de informa??es em ciência e tecnologia (ibict), a government institution, to build a national digital library for electronic theses and dissertations - bibliteca digital de teses e disserta??es (bdtd). the project has been a collaborative effort among ibict, universities and other research centers in brazil. the developers adopted a system architecture based on the open archives initiative (oai) in which universities and research centers act as data providers and ibict as a service provider. a brazilian metadata standard for electronic theses and dissertations was developed for the digital library. a toolkit including open source package was also developed by ibict to be distributed to potential data providers. bdtd has been integrated with the international initiative: the networked digital library of thesis and dissertation (ndltd). discussions in the paper address various issues related to project design, development and management as well as the role played by ibict. conclusions highlight some important lessons learned to date and challenges for the future in expanding the bdtd project.

Abstract: this paper describe teaching-learning experiences of senior nursing undergraduate students in providing care for clients on substitutive renal therapies in the nephrology service of a university hospital in the state of rio de janeiro. the process was facilitated through a partnership between academic and clinical nursing public institutions. structured interviews were used to evaluate the process during the second semester of 2008. data led to the identification of the environmental factors, clients' profile, and students' nursing care. evaluation of the experience indicated great interest and good performance of students, but there were limitations on fundamental knowledge to provide care for clients on renal substitutive therapies. therefore, theory and practice are very relevant to provide quality care for clients on renal substitute therapies.
Literacy, Ethnicity and Style  [PDF]

Advances in Anthropology (AA) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/aa.2013.34A002
Abstract:

I present the result of a two-year research project developed at the “Instituto de Estudos de Linguagem” (IEL/Unicamp, Brazil) and also of action research I have been organizing since 2006 when I started to work as a professor at the “Universidade Federal de Sao Carlos”, in Brazil. Relying on recent developments in New Literacy Studies, I explore the concept of the continuum illiterate-literate and argue that it implies elements of transformation, as well as conservation. I also argue that three intersecting continua must be considered together: the continua oral-written, rural-urban and restricted-full literacy, always taking into consideration ethnicity as a variable (Cohen, 1974). Drawing on ethnographic fieldwork in Brazil, I show how elements of restricted literacy (Goody, 1968) are presented on the threshold of the twenty first century; how they entertain relation with the rural to urban migration and with a marked contrast between different ethnicities; and in what sense this fact may be visible in the everyday use of language and in the style inherent in it.

Nheengatu Language and Its Role in the Tactics of Construction of Indigenous Identity  [PDF]
Maria Sílvia Cintra
Advances in Anthropology (AA) , 2018, DOI: 10.4236/aa.2018.84012
Abstract: Nheengatu is one of the co-official languages of São Gabriel da Cachoeira in the Amazon region (AM/Brazil). About 8000 people in the Upper Rio Negro region speak it, and there exists a contemporary movement for its revitalization in the state of Pará (PA/Brazil). Based upon field research in both these regions, this paper bears reflections on the inter-relations existing between language and identity including references in the areas of Applied Linguistics, Culture Semiotics and Anthropology. I propose a discussion on Nheengatu language, which is often considered in a dysphoric way, i.e., as if it had been imposed on the natives, resulting only from the colonizers’ strategies. I propose we can instead envisage it from the perspective concerning the tactics constructed by the aboriginals in order to preserve and reconquer their identity, i.e., from the point of view of a Poetics of Relation within a complex, contradictory and hybrid linguistic approach.

Abstract: the brazilian generic drugs policy was implemented in 1999 with the aim of stimulating competition in the market, improve the quality of drugs and improve the access of the population to drug treatment. the process of implementing this policy allowed the introduction and discussion of concepts that had never before been used in the context of drug registration in brazil: bioavailability, bioequivalence, pharmaceutical equivalence, generic drugs, biopharmaceutical classification system, biowaiver. the present article provides definitions for these concepts in the context of brazilian legislation as well as a historical and chronological description of the implementation of the generic drugs policy in brazil, including a list of current generic drug legislation. this article contributes to the understanding of the brazilian generic drugs policy and facilitates the search for information concerning the legal requirements for registration of drugs in brazil.
