Somatic Polymorphism Variation in Crotalaria retusa L. Seeds  [PDF]
Paulo Sérgio de Figueiredo, Natale M. Lindoso Silva
American Journal of Plant Sciences (AJPS) , 2018, DOI: 10.4236/ajps.2018.91005
Abstract: The article describes the somatic polymorphism in Crotalaria retusa L. seeds. Each individual may produce yellow dormant seeds, brown quiescent seeds and unviable dark brown ones. Therefore, regarding physiology it is a dimorphism. We show that autogamy reduces dimorphism, favoring the formation of dormant seeds. However, the significant variation in dimorphism is seasonal as consequence of increased viability of dormant seeds under drier weather conditions. The variation is a phenotypic response to changes of humidity in the environment during plant reproduction, a mechanism inducing the prevalence of dormant seeds in the dry season and quiescent seeds during the rainy season. The seasonal alternation between dormancy and quiescence in seasonally dry environments has an apparent adaptive value. The chromatic polymorphism increases on the more humid coast and during the rainy season, due to increased mortality of dormant seeds under wetter weather conditions. Unviable seeds accumulate oxidized phenols in their seed coat that possibly act as induced chemical defenses. Its proportion increases with humidity, accentuating polymorphism, also in response to the increase in the predation rate by larvae of U. ornatrix during the rainy season.
A produ??o da opacidade: estatísticas criminais e seguran?a pública no Brasil
Lima, Renato Sérgio de;
Novos Estudos - CEBRAP , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-33002008000100005
Abstract: in brazil, the analysis of statistics shows that crime and criminality data are produced and that they are part of our criminal justice system history. nevertheless, these data are not transformed into information and knowlegde, even after the re-democratization of the country. the raising amount of produced data, which results from the technological modernization of the state, causes the opacity of excessive exposure and allows the circulation of transparency discourses without the occurence of actual changes in governmental rules and practices. to sum up, the re-definition of those statistics role does not rely on technical aspects, which are controlable and depend on decision making; it relies on political aspects that can attribute responsibilities and resolve conflicts.
Inova??es tecnológicas nas edifica??es: papéis diferenciados para construtores e fornecedores
Amorim, Sérgio Leusin de;
Gest?o & Produ??o , 1996, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-530X1996000300003
Abstract: due to the recent modification of public policies, we can identify an increasing technological innovation process in the brazilian building sector, distributed on three different levels: finished building products, building suppliers products and in the contractor's own organization level. differently from other industries, in this sector innovation happens mainly through organizational changes or by the introduction of new components, rather than as changes in manufacturing processes. we can characterize the relationships between the participants of this process as a "socio-technical network", in which the manufacturers of building products play a critical role, corresponding to a "suppliers dominated sector". thus, it is possible to identify different technological strategies for each group and link it to theirs own concerns in the building production process. the renovation of the materials and supplies represents a work and value transfer from the contractors to their suppliers, which, in its turn, is modeled by government intervention and by the extreme variability of building production, either in quantity, in typology or geographic distribution.
Dinamica industrial e cumulatividade tecnológica: uma abordagem evolucionária
Sousa, Sérgio Almeida de;
Estudos Econ?micos (S?o Paulo) , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-41612005000400001
Abstract: this paper's aim is to present a theoretical extension of the evolutionary model of industrial dynamics proposed by nelson and winter (1982b), introducing some analytical modifications in the process that defines the result of the firm's technological search. it is introduced a mechanism that positevely reinforces the random process that defines the result of the firms' attempts to make innovations/imitations by p&d expenses. this new version intend to surpass a limitation persisting in the whole stream of evolutionary models. although they have been eliminating other simplifications of the model, all of them still follow the nelson-winter model technological search process closely. finally, it will be presented some preliminary simulations seeking to evaluate the implications of this change on the industry performance (price, productivity) and, particularly, on the stability of firms' competitive performance in terms of market share.
Central Nervous System Paracoccidioidomycosis: an overview
Almeida, Sérgio Monteiro de;
Brazilian Journal of Infectious Diseases , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-86702005000200002
Abstract: paracoccidioidomycosis (pcm) is an infectious disease, endemic to subtropical areas of central and south america, caused by the dimorphic fungus paracoccidioides brasiliensis. it is a chronic disease, mostly affecting adult males, with a mean patient age of 44 years. central nervous system involvement (cns pcm) has been found in 13% of the patients with systemic disease. we reviewed the clinical presentation, diagnosis techniques and treatments for cns pcm.
Fenomenologia aplicada à performance musical: um recorte na pe?a Bajulans de Manoel Dias de Oliveira
Rocha, Sérgio de Figueiredo;
Per Musi , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S1517-75992008000200011
Abstract: the purpose of this article is to present a phenomenological analysis of bajulans from moteto de passos, a work by colonial brazilian composer manoel dias de oliveira (1734/5-1813). understanding how the piece is structured from the harmonic and phenomenological point of view may contribute to improve its performance. the phenomenological analysis is not a common approach in the interpretation of music yet. however, parameters eminently subjective, as the interpreter's experience in performance, have been shown to be quite significant for music research.
