Matt, Sérgio Luis Pinto da;Gomes, Marcos de Lucca Moreira;Andrade, Dálcio Ricardo de;
Brazilian Archives of Biology and Technology , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S1516-89132009000100016
Abstract: oligosarcus argenteus belongs to the acestrorhynchinae subfamily, being restricted to south america, and found in several brazilian hydrographic basins, in lotic and lentic environments, where they are able to reproduce. with the purpose of studying the reproductive biology of the males from this species, many morphological parameters were analyzed during a 24 month period, as well as characterizing the different testicular maturation stages. a maturity scale, with three stages (i - initial maturing, ii - intermediate maturing, iii - final maturing) was proposed for the adult males of oligosarcus argenteus. the reproductive period was established by the bimonthly frequency of spermatogenesis and by the gonadal maturation stages.

Acta Cirurgica Brasileira , 2003,
Abstract: PURPOSE: The plasmatic activity of the cholinesterase (CHE) and the liver mitochondrial function, expressed by the ratio of respiratory control (RCR), were studied during normothermic ischemia. METHODS: Sixteen adult mongrels, eight females and eight males were submitted to ischemia by clamping of the hepatic artery, portal vein and infrahepatic inferior vena cava, infra-hepatic, for two h, follwed by reperfusion for 1 h. The CHE and the mitochondrial function were evaluated at 60 and 120 min. of ischemia and at 15 and 60 minutes of reperfusion. RESULTS: The CHE decreased, significantly, during ischemia and in reperfusion. The RCR was decreased at 120 min. of ischemia, returning to the initial values on reperfusion. CONCLUSION: In this study, the CHE was a sensitive indicator of ischemic injury , suggesting irreversibility of ischemia injury. The RCR, by other side, showed a greater sensibility than the CHE in detection sense, during the studied period, the reversibility of the hepatic ischemic injury.

Acta Scientiarum : Animal Sciences , 2007,
The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of energy levels on the piau u (Leporinus macrocephalus) productive performance. Two hundred and fifty post larvae, average initial weight and length of 0.56 ± 0.02 g and 3.60 ± 0.42 cm respectively, were assigned to 25 aquariums with 100 L and stocking rate of 10 fishes/aquarium. The experiment was carried out according to a completely randomized design, with 5 treatments (2600, 2700, 2800, 2900 and 3000 kcal DE kg-1 of a isoprotein ration with 28% CP) and five replications. Viscera-somatic index did not differ among treatments. Final weight, weight gain, protein efficiency rate and survival rate were not affected by the energy level. Linear increase of digestible energy intake and decreasing linear effect of energy levels on carcass protein content, as dietary digestible energy level increased, were observed. The level of 2,700 kcal DE kg-1 showed the higher protein values. A positive linear effect among the dietary DE levels and fat content and the fat percentage in weight gain were also observed, which increased in a quadratic way up to the level of 2,821 kcal DE kg-1. The digestible energy requirement for piau u fingerlings in the post larvae phase is 2,700 kcal DE kg-1.

Abstract: In 2001, dentistry was inserted into one of the major health programs established by the Unified Health System (SUS), the program of family health strategy. The expectation was that it could reach a supply of care to protect and promote the health of the population in full. Health education appears as a strategy to achieve the provision of health, to meet all user needs in the health system, trying to emphasize the public sector in academic. The multidisciplinary work also emerges as a way to involve the professionals so there are no disputes between them in the execution of their professions. The attention given in full to the user, creating an expectation that it can create bonds of commitment between professionals and users, so that way it can consolidate the implementation of the Unified Health System, and reach a service aimed at the user does not only in its physical and biological processes, but also your psyche.

Abstract: The objective of this work was to associate the energy digestible level of the diet to ovary development in post larval stage. Twenty-four female fish were used with weight and average initial length of 0.33 ± 0.11 g and 2.94 ± 0.39 cm, respectively. There were four treatments: 2600, 2700, 2800, and 2900 kcal of DE/kg of ration. Digestible energy levels influenced the final weight up to the estimated level of 2757.142kcal/kg. However, there was no significant effect for total length, gonad weight, and gonadossomatic index in females. The level of digestible energy did not provide better initial development of the ovary. This information may guide new experiments, to improve the conditions of cultivation, to value the activity on the economic sense as well as increase the number of fingerlings for aquaculture.

Abstract: patients with megaesophagus (me) have increased prevalence of cancer of the esophagus. in contrast, a higher incidence of colorectal cancer is not observed in patients with megacolon (mc). mc is very common in some regions of brazil, where it is mainly associated with chagas disease. we reviewed the pathology records of surgical specimens of all patients submitted for surgical resection of mc in the hospital das clínicas of the faculty of medicine of ribeir?o preto (hc-fmrp), from the university of s?o paulo. we found that 894 patients were operated from 1952 until 2001 for mc resection. mucosal ulcers, hyperplasia and chronic inflammation were frequently found, while polyps were uncommon. no patients with mc presented any type of colonic neoplasm. this observation reinforces the hypothesis that mc has a negative association with cancer of the colon. this seems to contradict the traditional concept of carcinogenesis in the colon, since patients with mc presents important chronic constipation that is thought to cause an increase in risk for colon cancer. mc is also associated with other risk factors for cancer of colon, such as hyperplasia, mucosal ulcers and chronic inflammation. in me these factors lead to a remarkable increase in cancer risk. the study of mucosal cell proliferation in mc may provide new insights and useful information about the role of constipation in colonic carcinogenesis.
