Food and Nutrition Sciences (FNS) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/fns.2015.61007
Abstract: Objectives: Childhood malnutrition is a major concern in developing countries. Therefore, the present study aimed to determine the nutritional status and dietary habits of school children. Methods: This is a community based cross-sectional survey designed to evaluate nutritional status of students aged (5 - 19 years) in Beni-Suef Governorate, Egypt, during September-December 2013. A two-stage sampling technique was done; 22 government schools were selected in the first stage. In the second stage, 1100 students were selected from the target population of the study. Weight, height, and age data were used to calculate z-scores of the three different nutritional indicators. Dietary habits were studied using a food frequency questionnaire. Results: Underweight (WAZ < -2) and stunting (HAZ < -2) occurred in 10% and 53.2%, respectively. WAZ and HAZ mean scores of the children were -0.22 (SD = 1.39) and -2.09 (SD = 2.03), respectively. The malnourished children were classified on the basis of (WHO/NCHS) reference population BMI z-scores as being: 2.8% underweight (+2SD). Boys were more underweight (3%) than girls (2.2%). Conversely, girls tend to be more stunted (65.3%) compared to boys (59.9%) in the age group 10 - 14 years. Identified risk factors associated with malnutrition for those aged more than 10 years were: mother education (P-value = 0.03), father education (P-value = 0.04) and family size (P-value = 0.014). Conclusion and Recommendations: Child’s nutritional status is strongly associated with the literacy of both parents and family size. The prevalence of malnutrition can be reduced by implementation of school intervention programs for the socioeconomic development.

Pan African Medical Journal , 2012,
Advances in Dental Implant Positioning Techniques and Their Clinical Implications  [PDF]

Open Journal of Stomatology (OJST) , 2017, DOI: 10.4236/ojst.2017.72008
Abstract: Background: Advancing surgical reconstructive methods and demanding prosthetics need accurate and precise implant placements. Positioning dental implant is vital in both prosthetic and aesthetic perspectives. The optimal three-dimensional placement not only reduces biomechanical complications but also imprecates the odds of implant failure. Materials & Methods: By using robust text mining, searching and retrieval tools, 350 relevant articles were found and then out of them 161 articles were short listed for our review. They included systematic reviews, meta-analyses, case series and experimental studies. Conclusions & Results: Conventional freehand implant placement techniques remain experts’ favorite for uncompromised cases. However, for compromised cases that demand accuracy and predictability, various computer-based methods are in use. While computerized tomography techniques and use of interactive software prevalent in treatment planning, computer-aided design or computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/ CAM) fabricated surgical guides enable implantologists for more successful implantations.
Preparation and Characterization of Nano-Cadmium Ferrite
S. M. Ismail,Sh. Labib,S. S. Attallah
Journal of Ceramics , 2013, DOI: 10.1155/2013/526434
Abstract: Nano-hematite (α-Fe2O3) and nano-cadmium ferrite (CdFe2O4) are prepared using template-assisted sol-gel method. The prepared samples are analyzed using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and M?ssbauer spectroscopy techniques for structural and microstructural studies. Nano-α-Fe2O3 with particle size ~60?nm is formed at 500°C, while nano-CdFe2O4 with smaller particle size (~40?nm) is formed at 600°C. It is found that with a simple sol-gel process we can prepare nano-CdFe2O4 with better conditions than other methods: pure phase at lower sintering temperature and time (economic point) and of course with a smaller particle size. So, based on the obtained experimental results, a proposed theoretical model is made to explain the link between the use of the sol-gel process and the formation of nano-CdFe2O4 as a pure phase at low temperature. This model is based on a simple magnetostatic interaction between the formed nuclei within the solution leading to the formation of the stable phase at low temperature. 1. Introduction In recent years, the design and synthesis of nanomagnetic particles has the focus of the intense fundamental and applied research with special emphasis on their enhanced properties that are different from those of their bulk counterparts [1–6]. Nano-cadmium ferrite (CdFe2O4) is a normal spinel ferrite that can be applied in various fields [7]. Nano-CdFe2O4 exhibits ferromagnetism, and ~54% of Fe3+ ions occupy the A site in contrast to 0% for the bulk materials with normal spinel structures [8]. The enhanced occupancy of Fe3+ ions in CdFe2O4 is explained by a higher octahedral preferential energy of Cd2+ [8]. It is found that nano-CdFe2O4 can be obtained at low temperature by applying solution methods. Desai et al. [8] prepare nano-CdFe2O4 by sintering at 600°C for 4?h using the precipitation method, where the achieved crystallite size is 43?nm and the hematite (α-Fe2O3) as a minor phase is present. Otherwise, Sharma et al. [9] prepare nano-CdFe2O4, having crystallite sizes (100–200?nm), as a pure phase by sintering at 900°C for 6?h using the urea combustion method. In this paper, nano-CdFe2O4 is prepared using the sol-gel process that is considered as one of the important methods used in nanoparticles’ synthesis. This process is chosen because it gives enhanced homogeneity, better control for size, shape, and degree of agglomeration of the resulting nanocrystals, simple compositional control, and low processing temperature [2, 5, 8, 10–12]. Pan African Medical Journal , 2011,
Abstract: Congenital Insensitivity to pain with anhydrosis (CIPA) is a rare inherited disease. It is classified as hereditary sensory and autonomic neuropathy type IV. Pain insensitivity and autonomic deficits are present, but touch and pressure sensitivity are unimpaired. Mental retardation is usually present. We report a family case of a 5 years old girl and 2 years old boy with congenital insensitivity to pain, while discussing the clinical features and the anesthetic strategy of such patients. Patients with Congenital Insensitivity to Pain with anhydrosis may undergo surgery because of susceptibility to trauma due to absence of pain. The clinical features may intrinsically possess anesthetic challenges.

Pan African Medical Journal , 2012,
Abstract: Atropa Belladonna is a poisonous plant also called deadly nightshade. Its roots leaves and fruits contain alkaloids: atropine, hyocyamine and scopolamine. The risk of poisoning in children is important because of possible confusion with other berries. Atropa Belladonna acute intoxication is a severe condition, it’s should be considered in the presence of anti-cholinergic toxidrome, the differential diagnosis include other plants or psychoactive drugs containing atropine. The treatment is mainly symptomatic including gastrointestinal decontamination with activated charcoal. In severe cases, physostigmine can be used as an antidote. We report the case of 11 year old girl with Atropa Belladonna poisoning which was administrated in a therapeutic purpose as a remedy to jaundice. The child presented essentially a central anti-cholinergic syndrome. She was admitted in the intensive care unit, the progression was favorable with symptomatic treatment.
