The meat market in Brazil: a partial equilibrium model
Souza, Geraldo da Silva e;Alves, Eliseu;Gazzola, Rosaura;Marra, Renner;
Revista de Economia e Sociologia Rural , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-20032008000400011
Abstract: a partial equilibrium model for the meat market is fit to brazilian data by three stages least squares. the model is consistent with the data and may be used for simulation purposes. in this context we compare model simulations for the near future with the oecd/ aglink outlook. to illustrate using the model for simulations in policy assessments, we investigate the effect of a relative increase in corn price on the poultry and pork markets, coeteris paribus.
Previs?es para o mercado de carnes
Souza, Geraldo da Silva e;Souza, Mirian Oliveira de;Marques, Daniela Vieira;Gazzola, Rosaura;Marra, Renner;
Revista de Economia e Sociologia Rural , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-20032011000200009
Abstract: this work aimed to present brazilian forecasts of production, consumption, exports and export average price of meat (beef, pork and poultry). forecasts were generated using the markovian representation (state space) model and an autoregressive integrated moving average (arima). annual growth rates were also calculated. series observed involve the period from 1972 to 2009 and the analysis of the forecasts involves the period from 2010 to 2020. the forecasts of the products are well adjusted to the observations. according to the results, brazil showed a growth trend in all the analyzed variables. it is concluded that the brazilian meat market indicates good perspectives of strengthening in world terms, especially for poultry.
Alumnos Mediadores.

On cosmological observables in a swiss-cheese universe (Conference proceeding)
Valerio Marra
Physics , 2008,
Abstract: By means of a toy Swiss-cheese cosmological model we will discuss how to set up and carry out in a physically meaningful way the idea of back-reaction, according to which dark energy could be an effective source. We will follow two distinct approaches. One is focused on how cosmological observables are affected by inhomogeneities, while the other is focused on a theoretical description of the inhomogeneous universe by means of a mean-field description.
A back-reaction approach to dark energy
Valerio Marra
Physics , 2008,
Abstract: This thesis is mainly about how to set up and carry out in a physically meaningful way the idea of back-reaction, according to which dark energy could be an effective source. There are, broadly speaking, two distinct approaches. One is focused on how cosmological observables are affected by inhomogeneities, while the other is focused on a theoretical description of the inhomogeneous universe by means of a mean-field description. Both approaches, however, share the idea of smoothing out inhomogeneities. We developed this duality in the interpretation of the back-reaction by means of toy models based on the Lemaitre-Tolman-Bondi solution of Einstein's equations. In particular we focused on voids expanding faster than the background solution.
Fingerprints of Orbital Physics in Magnetic Resonant Inelastic X-ray Scattering
Pasquale Marra
Physics , 2013, DOI: 10.1063/1.4755829
Abstract: Orbital degrees of freedom play a major role in the physics of many strongly correlated transition metal compounds. However, they are still very difficult to access experimentally, in particular by neutron scattering. We propose here how to reveal orbital occupancies of the system ground state by magnetic resonant inelastic x-ray scattering (RIXS). This is possible because, unlike in neutron scattering, the intensity of the magnetic excitations in RIXS depends essentially on the symmetry of the orbitals where the spins are in.
The recent Italian regulations about the open-access availability of publicly-funded research publications, and the documentation landscape in astrophysics
Monica Marra
Physics , 2014,
Abstract: In October 2013 Italy enacted Law 112 2013, containing the first national regulations about the open access availability of publicly-funded research results (publications). The impact of these new regulations with the specific situation of that open access discipline which is astrophysics, has been considered. Under a strictly technical point of view, in the light of the new dispositions the open nature of a part of the astrophysical scholarly literature which has been made available online free to the reader during the last twenty years, might be questionable. Some possible ways to make astrophysicists' scholarly dissemination entirely compliant with law requirements are considered.
