Craniofacial Horn Injuries: Rares Lesional Entities at the University Hospital of Bouaké (Côte d’Ivoire)  [PDF]

Abstract: Aim: Describe the epidemiological, clinical and therapeutic particularities of craniofacial trauma by encornment. Type of study: This was a retrospective and descriptive study. Material and methods: It took place in the surgical emergency departments of Bouaké (Côte d’Ivoire) University Hospital from January 2013 to December 2017, for a period of 5 years. It focused on patients of 0 to 5 years old admitted for craniofacial trauma involving the horn of a bovine. Results: Of the 26 cases of traumatic encornment, 11 were craniofacial location (42%). There were 9 male and 2 female victims. The average age was 10.54 years with extremes of 6 months and 24 years. Patients came from rural areas of Côte d’Ivoire. Bovids were responsible for all causal encornements. The lesions involved the scalp (3 cases) and the face (8 cases). The lesions were cutaneous-musculo skeletal in 7 cases. The surgical treatment included debridement associated to a suture in all cases and associated with maxillo mandibular blockage in 3 cases and duro-cranioplasty in one case. Conclusion: In the local context, facial cranio traumatism by encornement is rare and seems to be essentially infantile, masculine and rural problem.
Differences in patterns of high-risk human papillomavirus infection between urban and rural low-resource settings: cross-sectional findings from Mali

Abstract: Urban and rural women in Mali participated in a structured interview and clinician exam, with collection of cervical samples for HPV DNA testing, to determine HR-HPV prevalence and correlates of infection. Correlates were assessed using bivariate analysis and logistic regression.A total of 414 women (n=202 urban women; n=212 rural women) were recruited across both settings. The prevalence of HR-HPV infection in rural women was nearly twice that observed in urban women (23% v. 12%). Earlier age of sexual debut and fewer pregnancies were associated with HR-HPV infection among urban women, but not rural women. Twenty-six percent of urban women who had sexual intercourse by age 14 had an HR-HPV infection, compared to only 9% of those who had later sexual debut (p<0.01). Overall, age, income, and polygamy did not appear to have a relationship with HR-HPV infection.Compared to urban women, rural women were significantly more likely to be infected with high-risk HPV. The patterns and risk factors of HR-HPV infection may be different between geographic areas, even within the same developing country. The high prevalence in both groups suggests that nearly all rural women and most urban women in Mali will be infected with HR-HPV during their lifetime, so the effects of risk factors may not be statistically apparent. To control HPV and cervical cancer in West Africa and the rest of the developing world, planners should prioritize vaccination in high-burden areas.
Dynamic-Distributed Load Balancing for Highly-Performance and Responsiveness Distributed-GIS (D-GIS)  [PDF]

Abstract: In recent years, several results have been introduced to enhance distributed GIS performance. While much more efforts have focused on tile map and simple symbologies on dynamic map, load balancing GIS servers have not been addressed by the GIS community so far. This paper, therefore, proposed dynamic distributed load balancing for D-GIS in order to quickly render information to client interface by involving a set of GIS servers which process clients’ requests depending of an algorithm. In the model, several concepts were introduced and defined: Virtual Server within physical machine which constitutes a setup environment for a single GIS server, Load Hash Table which contains information about virtual server’s capacity, real-time load and other mandatory elements, Request Split Table which splits requests depending of the input area’s Quantity of Information and stores request tasks composition for later reconstitution. At last we have Distributed Failover Callback Function Table level one (respectively level two) which determines whether or not the request had been successfully processed by the chosen virtual server (respectively physical machine). This table allows sending back the same request to another virtual server (respectively physical node). Two load handlers (primary and secondary) are defined in case of failure. Our Model achieves efficient load balancing by: providing efficient node selection; optimizing request routing; managing node failover; involving client’s request partitioning and introducing method type decomposition. A simulation of the algorithm shows a low response time when performing GIS operations.

Abstract: Various architectural and aesthetic matters are discussed in this analytic commentary regarding two highly significant new museums in South-Eastern China in the ancient cities of Suzhou (architect: I. M. Pei) and Ningbo (architect: Wang Shu). Questions regarding the aesthetics of innovation, the public acceptance of nontraditional work in city cores, and the determinants and logistics of real-world decision-making in these domains are also addressed.

Abstract: Isamu Noguchi (1904-1988), a Zen-influenced modernist, is considered to be one of the most important American sculptors and designers of the twentieth century. Moerenuma Park in Sapporo (Hokkaido, Japan, completed in 2005) can be justifiably regarded as both the summation of his prior work and his swan song. In this analysis of Moerenuma Park, various aesthetic, architectural, design, and social-psychological matters are addressed. Particular attention is devoted to Noguchi’s care about the social aspects of use by visitors of the most important architectural object in Moerenuma Park, the Glass Pyramid. A comparative reference is tentatively made in this regard to I. M. Pei’s Pyramid at the Louvre (1989).

Abstract: There are two main themes in this case study of sculpture, aesthetics, and politics. First, from the viewpoint of artistic quality, the article discusses various failed features of the recent (2018) bronze statue in Belgrade of Patriarch Pavle of the Serbs (1914-2009), the prominent and widely revered head of the Serbian Orthodox Church: The work’s hugely inadequate balance, pose, location, workmanship, and others. Second, the article critically describes the long-term and current political forces that constitute the social background of the design, location, and other aspects of the statue. Some of these influences are unique to Serbia in the period 1980-2018; others seem to be shared by several countries in Europe that are considered “transitional” from communism to neo-liberal capitalism.
Valuing Health Effects of Natural Radionuclides Releases from Yatagan Power Plant  [PDF]

Abstract: The objective of this paper is the valuation of radiological health effects of Yatagan Power Plant. To this aim the radiation dose calculations are carried out for the population living within 80 km radius of the plant. The average of the maximum measured specific isotopes 238U, 232Th and 226Ra in the flying ash samples are considered as radioactive sources. Based on the dose calculations, first the stochastic health effects and then monetary health effects are estimated. The estimated total collective dose and economic value of the pre-dicted health effects are 0.3098 man Sv/y and 14791 US$/y respectively. The results obtained from the dose calculations are lower than the limits of International Commission of Radiation Protection (ICRP) and it does not pose any risk for public health. Monetary value of health risks is also negligible in comparison to the av-erage yearly sales revenue of the plant which is 250 million US$.

受禅宗影响的现代主义艺术家野口勇(1904-1988),被认为是美国二十世纪最重要的雕塑家和设计师之一。而札幌莫埃来沼公园(位于日本北海道,建成于2005年)有理由被看作是他之前作品的集合,同时也是他艺术生涯的绝唱。在本文对莫埃来沼公园的分析中,作者对涉及到的各种美学,建筑,设计和社会心理问题进行了阐释。游客对莫埃来沼公园里最重要的建筑景观—玻璃金字塔的社会性使用是野口勇所关心的一个重要问题,而本文作者对于他的这一关心也给予了特别关注,并且在这方面尝试性地比较参考了贝聿铭1989年设计建造的卢浮宫金字塔。

A Numerical Approach to Possible Identification of the Noisiest Zones of a Wall Surface with a Flow Interaction  [PDF]

Abstract:
This paper examines the use of proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) and singular value decomposition (SVD) to identify zones on the surface of the source that contribute the most to the sound power the source radiates. First, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is used to obtain the pressure field at the surface of the blade in a subsonic regime. Then the fluctuation of this pressure field is used as the input for the loading noise in the Ffowcs Williams and Hawkings (FW&H) acoustic analogy. The FW&H analogy is used to calculate the sound power that is radiated by the blade. Secondly, the most important acoustic modes of POD and SVD are used to reconstruct the radiated sound power. The results obtained through POD and SVD are similar to the acoustic power directly obtained with the FW&H analogy. It was observed that the importance of the modes to the radiated sound power is not necessarily in ascending order (for the studied case, the seventh mode was the main contributor). Finally, maps of the most contributing POD and SVD modes have been produced. These maps show the zones on the surface of the blade, where the dipolar aeroacoustic sources contribute the most to the radiated sound power. These identifications are expected to be used as a guide to design and shape the blade surface in order to reduce its radiated noise.
