Abstract: this paper aims to analyze the relevance of business games as a subject on the curriculum of under-graduate business schools in brazil. the literature review demonstrates that the application of business games has potential to train managers, however, this research identifies some misunderstandings in the application of such games on courses. the teaching plans of business games courses (with some name variations) from 25 brazilian higher education institutions were analyzed by documentary research. the concep of business games subjects uses two approaches: the first deals with games as a teach-learning tool; the second deals with the integration of the diverse content of the specific subject of management. the analysis shows a distortion in the institutional interpretation of games as a tool for management training. there is a mistake in the concept of a subject that has no identity, and about the absence of game application in the development of the subject. this article demonstrates the need for greater institutional support in the acquisition/development of didactic resources and the preparedness of teachers to apply business games.

Abstract: O objetivo deste artigo é analisar a pertinência da presen a de um componente curricular denominado Jogos de Empresas, nos cursos de gradua o em Administra o no Brasil. A revis o bibliográ ca demonstra que a aplica o de jogos tem elevado potencial de contribui o para a forma o em Administra o, mas a presente pesquisa identi cou falhas na concep o das disciplinas a ela relacionadas. Os Planos de Ensino da disciplina “Jogos de Empresas” (com algumas varia es de nomenclatura) de 25 IES brasileiras foram analisados por meio de pesquisa documental. Duas abordagens distintas foram identi cadas para o tratamento da disciplina Jogos de Empresas: a primeira, que trata da capacita o para que se apliquem jogos como ferramenta de ensino-aprendizagem; e a segunda, que trata da integra o das diversas disciplinas especí cas de gest o. A análise apontou uma distor o da interpreta o institucional a respeito da importancia dos jogos para a forma o em Administra o. Há equívoco na concep o das disciplinas, que sofrem de falta de identidade, e quanto a n o aplica o dos jogos no próprio desenvolvimento de tais disciplinas. Dessa forma, este artigo é concluído com a demonstra o da necessidade de um maior apoio institucional executado por meio da aquisi o/desenvolvimento de recursos didáticos e da capacita o docente para que se desenvolvam jogos de empresas. ----- Business Games as Curriculum Component: analysis of their use in teaching ----- ABSTRACT ----- This paper aims to analyze the relevance of Business Games as a subject on the curriculum of under-graduate business schools in Brazil. da Silva Motta,Gustavo; Hermida Quintella,Rogério;
Journal of technology management & innovation , 2012, DOI: 10.4067/S0718-27242012000300015
Abstract: the aim of this article is to assess the potential of using scientometric and patentometric indicators as a way of instrumentalizing the selection process of projects for seed capital funding. there is an increasing interest in technology based enterprises for their capacity to contribute to economic and social development, but there is also some difficulty in assessing non-financial criteria associated with technology for the purposes of financial funding. thus, this research selected the case of the first enterprise invested in by the largest seed capital fund in brazil, in order to create scientific and technological indicators and to assess the extent to which these indicators may contribute to understanding the market potential of the technology once it is assessed. it was concluded that scientometric and patentometric indicators favour the assessment process for non-financial criteria, in particular those criteria dealt with in this study: technology, market, divestment, and team.

REAd. Revista Eletr?nica de Administra??o (Porto Alegre) , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-23112012000200002
Abstract: this paper presents an overview about the use of business simulation and games in undergraduate business programs in bahia state, brazil. the increasing interest about this technique can be originated, among others facts, on the many benefits that the specialized literature shows for its users. in this article a theoretical review on this literature is developed searching its central concepts, its origins and its use in brazil and in the world. some empirical data are presented from a survey with 47 under-graduation coordinators and directors from bahian institutions about their experience with business simulation and games by their lectures and professors. a quantitative approach using descriptive statistics (frequency, means and standard deviation) showed that 44.7% of the bahian institutions apply this kind of techniques. it shows also that business simulation practices are expected to grow in next five years, for 63, 8 % due to high satisfaction indications on its application. finally, two aspects appeared as very important ones to a higher level of business simulation and games application in management courses in bahia: the acquisition cost and the availability of electronic simulations.

Revista de Administra??o de Empresas , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0034-75902010000200004
Abstract: the objective of this paper is to analyze the factors that determine the environmental management strategies of industrial companies from santa catarina. primary data were obtained from a questionnaire replied to by 88 companies and quantitatively analyzed by means of multiple correspondence analysis. the study showed that the internal factors that determine environmental management strategies were employee commitment and managerial support and the external factors were society demands, government regulations, adjustment to normative standards and competition. the research also indicates there is a mimetic process which the most proactive companies are still unable to avoid, denoting that there exists a degree of homogeneity in these companies' interpretation of the institutional environment.

Abstract: discrepancies of the mesiodistal dimensions between upper and lower teeth as well as their effects on occlusion have been reported since the middle of the twentieth century. the aim of this study was to elucidate the importance of the applicability of the analysis of the bolton tooth size discrepancy in the orthodontic finalizing. cases involving caucasian male and female patients aged between 12 and 25 years were selected for study. analyses of the dental discrepancies were carried out before orthodontic treatment and after contention. basically, only patients having all permanent teeth before treatment (with first molars in both arches) were included. those cases of severely mutilated teeth, inadequate restorations, and tooth malalignment were ruled out because accurate measurement of the contacting points could not be performed. measurement of the mesiodistal tooth dimension was performed by only one operator using a digital calliper of a resolution of 0.001 mm (odin, germany) which had been previously calibrated for such procedures. it was measured the largest mesiodistal diameter. both previous and total relationships were calculated through their respective formulas according to bolton (1958). the orthodontic finalisation showed that bolton tooth size discrepancies involving either crowded dentition or lack of teeth can be compensated by mandibular or maxillary arch shape, buccal-lingual dimension, and axial inclination of the anterior teeth with no aesthetic or functional impairment.

Abstract: the emergence of stainless steel wire made of low-nickel content was a major breakthrough in the orthodontic, supplying the need for orthodontics patients who may have hypersensitivity by this ion, but do not know much about the mechanical properties of these wires. the objective of this study is to test the hypothesis that there is no difference between stainless steel wires and low-nickel stainless steel ones regarding their mechanical behaviour. force, resilience, and elasticity modulus produced by coffin appliances made of 0.032-inch and 0.036-inch wires were evaluated. sixty appliances coffin were made, thirty for each type of alloy being fifteen for each wire thickness. all the arches were submitted to mechanical compression test by using an emic dl-10000 machine simulating activations of 4, 6, 9, and 12 mm. analysis of variance (anova) with multiple comparisons and tukey’s test were employed (p< 0.05) for assessing force, resilience, and elasticity modulus. the groups using the 0.036 inch presented statistically (p<0.05) higher levels of force, resiliency and elasticity modulus when compared to the arches using the 0.032 inch wire for both alloys. the coffin appliances for both alloys evaluated can produce adequate forces for orthodontic treatment as long as their clinical application is correctly planned.
