Os mitos dos cientistas e suas controvérsias
Moura, Rodrigo;Canalle, Jo?o Batista Garcia;
Revista Brasileira de Ensino de Física , 2001, DOI: 10.1590/S1806-11172001000200016
Abstract: this article intends to discuss the myths that surround some of the greatest scientists that already existed, and the controversy of the same ones. a lot of times, those myths appear in didact and in scientific popularization books in a incontestable way. they are frequently told in the possible most fantastic way, with the praiseworthy intent of provoking interest in the science, but that end up showing it is inaccessible to the common people since most of the times the scientific discovery reported by them are put as a result of geniality. otherwise, when this is not the case they devaluate it, showing the great discoveries as a result of the fortuity. to illustrate certain controversies on certain myths we chose some of the most celebrated characters of the science: archimedes, galileu, newton, edison and einstein. the article has the purpose to show to the reader that there are countless controversies behind a myth, which discussion among researchers in history of the sciences generally is not disclosed.
O sistema de navega??o aérea de Júlio Cézar Ribeiro de Souza
Visoni, Rodrigo Moura;Canalle, Jo?o Batista Garcia;
Revista Brasileira de Ensino de Física , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S1806-11172010000200014
Abstract: this article analyzes the aeronautical work of júlio cézar ribeiro de souza, an inventor born in the state of para, famous in brazil during the 1880s. ribeiro de souza created an air navigation system widely discussed at the brazilian polytechnic institute, which did not reach a conclusion on the invention functionality, at that time. some authors tried assigning to souza the invention of the dirigible -notably fernando medina do amaral (1926-2001) and luis carlos bassalo crispino -a merit that belongs to alberto santos dumont. however, using basic aerodynamic knowledge, this study demonstrates that the júlio cézar system, if implemented, would have proved utterly ineffective.

Visoni, Rodrigo Moura;Canalle, Jo?o Batista Garcia;
Revista Brasileira de Ensino de Física , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S1806-11172009000300015
Abstract: the fundamental aerodynamics forces in the heavier-than-air flight are four: thrust, drag, weight and lift. this article shows how alberto santos dumont, the great brazilian aviation pioneer, managed to create, starting from a lighter-than-air craft-the dirigible balloon - the first successful airplane in history, working only with those forces.
Testando as hipóteses do modelo de mincer para o Brasil
Moura, Rodrigo Leandro de;
Revista Brasileira de Economia , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S0034-71402008000400003
Abstract: many estimates of rates of return for education have been produced, based on the mincer's model. but some of the hyphoteses (linearity and separability), so that the ("mincer") school coefficient is interpreted as rate of return, are tested and rejected. when relaxing such hypotheses, we estimate the internal rates of return becker (1975) and we get biases that arrive to 14 percentile points in relation to the "mincer coefficient". thus, the magnitude of these returns is much lower than the papers based on mincer's model. in the estimates we incorporate the sample design of pnad and correct the problem of bias of sample selection.

Jack van Schijndel, Luiz Alberto Canalle, Jochum Smid, Jan Meuldijk
Open Journal of Physical Chemistry (OJPC) , 2016, DOI: 10.4236/ojpc.2016.64010
Abstract: Sinapinic acid is a widespread compound in vegetable material and is as such common in the human diet. Recently it has drawn attention because of its biological activities. Sinapinic acid can be synthesized from syringaldehyde via the Knoevenagel-Doebner condensation. However this reaction is limited by the formation of 4-vinylsyringol after a second decarboxylation. To gain more detailed information about this reaction and to improve control over the formation of sinapinic acid, the concentration time history of syringaldehyde and the reaction products of this reaction have been monitored over time at different reaction temperatures. The formation of 4-vinylsyringol was found to be inhibited by performing the reaction at temperature below 80°C. This allows the reaction to be optimized for the production of sinapinic acid, with an optimal yield of 78% after 2.5 hours at 70°C.

This paper presents and discusses the use of Role Playing Games (RPG’s) on Marketing teaching, particularly, on Marketing disciplines which were given in Management and Hospitality courses at Escola Técnica Estadual (ETE) Albert Einstein – situated in Casa Verde, S o Paulo city (S o Paulo state) –, during the second semester of 2005. First, it talks about the educational RPG, an alternative that derives from traditional RPG and from game-books, that has proved to be appropriate for class uses. After this, the paper exemplifies its application through two adventures: Decis es de Produto no Planeta Mercadológico and Os Quatro Pergaminhos e o Segredo do Marketing Mix. The goal of the first adventure was to simulate Marketing practices (especially those from products development process); on the other hand, the second adventure attempted to convey and fix some concepts in student’s minds. The educational RPG has allowed students to simulate product development decisions and has also promoted a ludic contact with components of Marketing Mix. Its use was appreciated by students, as it has been demonstrated by the results of an inquiry made at the end of the course: more than 80% of students from both courses have considered a great deal the use of RPG in class.
Oxygen consumption in the severe exercise intensity domain during incremental and square-wave test modes
Rodrigo Ferreira de Moura,Eduardo Kokubun
Revista Brasileira de Cineantropometria e Desempenho Humano , 2008,
Abstract: Incremental tests are commonly used to predict metabolic responses during square-wave mode exercises. However, in some cases the predicted and observed results may be not similar. Main objective: To verify the hypothesis that, at certain intensities in the severe domain, VO2 determined during the incremental test is lower than that observed at these workloads using the square-wave test. Methodological proceedings: Eight physically active males (21.5 ± 4 years, 73.7 ± 5.3 kg and 180.8 ± 4.1 cm) performed: 1) an incremental test on cycle ergometer to determine the VO2 of the intensities (VO2INC); 2) a square-wave test at three severe intensities (Light (L), Medium (M) and Heavy (H)) to determine the critical power (CP) and to compare the VO2 (VO2RET) observed with the VO2INC; 3) a square-wave test at CP intensity to compare the time response of VO2 with P, M and L, at four different sample times. Results: The VO2INC at L intensity underestimated the VO2RET (3.2 ± 0.5 vs. 3.8 ± 0.6 l.min-1). No differences were observed at the other intensities (M: 3.5 ± 0.5 vs. 3.6 ± 0.5 l.min-1; H: 3.7 ± 0.5 vs. 3.4 ± 0.6 l.min-1; CP: 2.7 ± 0.5 vs. 3.0 ± 0.6 l.min-1). The VO2 at CP was lower at all times, exhibited a steady state and did not achieve VO2max. Initially, at L intensity, the VO2 was smaller than its pairs. However, at the last sample time, it achieved VO2max and became equal to the other severe intensities. Conclusion: The incremental test underestimates the VO2 observed at lighter intensities within the severe domain.
Seasonal prevalence of white plague like disease on the endemic Brazilian reef coral Mussismilia braziliensis Prevalencia estacional de la enfermedad de la plaga blanca en el coral endémico de Brasil Mussismilia braziliensis

Latin american journal of aquatic research , 2010,
Abstract: The reef coral Mussismilia braziliensis Verril, 1968 is endemic to the eastern Brazilian coast, representing a major reef-building species in the region. This coral is threatened by extinction due to the recent proliferation of a white-plague like (WPL) disease. Despite its severe impacts, the environmental factors leading to outbreaks of WPL disease are still poorly understood. This study describes the seasonal prevalence of WPL disease on M. braziliensis in the Abrolhos Bank, on the southern coast of Bahia Brazil. In situ estimates showed that WPL disease was about 4.5 times more prevalent in summer (January 2007, mean sea surface temperature 27.4°C) than in winter (July 2007, 25.0°C). This result suggests that the prevalence of WPL disease in M. braziliensis is temperature-dependent, supporting the hypothesis that warmer oceans are facilitating the proliferation of coral diseases worldwide.
