Ergonomics from the anglo-saxon and French perspectives A ergonomia sob a ótica anglo-sax nica e a ótica francesa
Rodrigo Gomes de Almeida
Vértices , 2011,
Abstract: Having been used since early times, ergonomics is the science concerned with studying the interactions of humans with their work environment, and the positive and negative effects of this relation. The approaches used in the study of ergonomics are basically two: the Anglo-Saxon and the French which, though being complementary, present some divergent aspects. However, both share the common goal of adapting work to man by preventing accidents, promoting comfort, improving income, and providing greater satisfaction to the worker A ergonomia é uma ciência que estuda as intera es do homem com seu ambiente de trabalho, considerando os efeitos positivos e negativos desta rela o.
Rodrigo Almeida Bastos
Anais do Museu Paulista: História e Cultura Material , 2012,
Abstract: The settlement of villages in the old colonial province of Minas Gerais obeyed certain principles of what was considered decent, convenient and adequate. Such principles were based on rules, doctrines and habits inherent to the Luso-Brazilian architecture of that time. The historical analysis of these aspects leads to a critical review of some consolidated assumptions in historiography, such as the one for which the settlements aforementioned would have appeared in a spontaneous, irregular and disordered fashion. Because they are evident in the remaining settlements and period art treatises and documents, these aspects lead to the consideration of a true art of populating, based on certain values and habits, which we call convenient Luso-Brazilian urbanism.
Local Community Identification through User Access Patterns
Rodrigo B. Almeida,Virgilio A. F. Almeida
Computer Science , 2002,
Abstract: Community identification algorithms have been used to enhance the quality of the services perceived by its users. Although algorithms for community have a widespread use in the Web, their application to portals or specific subsets of the Web has not been much studied. In this paper, we propose a technique for local community identification that takes into account user access behavior derived from access logs of servers in the Web. The technique takes a departure from the existing community algorithms since it changes the focus of in terest, moving from authors to users. Our approach does not use relations imposed by authors (e.g. hyperlinks in the case of Web pages). It uses information derived from user accesses to a service in order to infer relationships. The communities identified are of great interest to content providers since they can be used to improve quality of their services. We also propose an evaluation methodology for analyzing the results obtained by the algorithm. We present two case studies based on actual data from two services: an online bookstore and an online radio. The case of the online radio is particularly relevant, because it emphasizes the contribution of the proposed algorithm to find out communities in an environment (i.e., streaming media service) without links, that represent the relations imposed by authors (e.g. hyperlinks in the case of Web pages).
Renegocia??o da dívida pública interna em condi??es de sobreendividamento
Almeida, Rodrigo Octávio Marques de;
Revista de Economia Política , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-31572005000400009
Abstract: renegotiation of the public debt in conditions of excessive debt. this paper studies the debt overhang models and maturity management models, and analyses both theoretically and historically the debt renegotiations which the final outcome is a lower public debt burden. from the theoretical view the renegotiation plans can be pareto improving, both creditors and debtors can be better-off, and the value of the new debt will price the new reputation and debtors' willingness to pay. from the historical point of view, funded debts were the instrument that debtors used to improve reputation.
"Poliedro é um sólido, correto?":um estudo com graduandos interagindo em um chat sobre a defini o de poliedro "A Polyhedron is a solid, right?" a study with pre-service teachers interacting in a chat about the definition of a polyhedron

Educational research studies that analyze the construction of geometric concepts through distance interactions are scarce. This study is focused on pre-service teachers' understanding about the definition of a polyhedron. The article is based on research that analyses interactions in virtual scenarios of learning. Briefly, we will present the environment that was designed to be a course about star polyhedrons and, later, we analyze the interactions in one of its forms: that of chat. The investigation and analysis of one chat shows that it must move from a global vision to one focused on individual and collective reflections. The chat was shown to be a scenario that improved pre-service teachers' reflection about the definition of polyhedrons in three areas: in the context of geometric solids; of its elements (faces, vertices and edges); and in the number of dimensions.
Microkernel Development for Embedded Systems  [PDF]
Rodrigo Maximiano Antunes de Almeida, Luis Henrique de Carvalho Ferreira, Carlos Henrique Valério
Journal of Software Engineering and Applications (JSEA) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/jsea.2013.61003
Abstract:

This paper presents the development of a microkernel with a device driver controller for embedded systems. The implementation was done in C language aiming low cost microcontrollers. The proposed system allowed to perform soft real-time activities while keeping the drivers and the application isolated by a secure layer. The callback system proved itself extremely simple to use while still maintaining the security of the system regarding the temporal constraints.

Abstract: In this paper, the Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) method was used to characterize concrete tubes and steel/plastic tanks buried in IAG/USP test site. The microwave tomography was used to improve the GPR images, aiming to retrieve the geometry of the targets. The numerical modeling studies also were done in order to predict the GPR results of the buried targets and to give more reliability to the results interpretation. The targets were installed in the first shallow geophysical test site of the Brazil located at Institute of Astronomy, Geophysics, and Atmospheric Science (IAG) of the University of S?o Paulo (USP). GPR profiles of 200 MHz (shielded bistatic antennas) were acquired along three lines containing concrete tubes and steel/plastic tanks buried in subsoil. The concrete tubes show a hyperbolic reflector for the top, and the vertical tube also presented a reflection on its bottom. The horizontal steel tanks were characterized by a strong GPR reflection on their top. The empty plastic tank shows a strong reflector for the top with normal polarity. On the other hand, the plastic tank filled with water shows a weaker reflector for its top characterized by the inverted polarity of GPR signal when compared with empty plastic tank. The plastic tank filled with water also went characterized by the strong reflection to its bottom, being a good indicative to interpret GPR data on target in subsoil with some types of fluid inside of tank. The results of polarity difference for the top of tank can be used as guide pattern to identify buried tank empty or filled with water. The application of microwave tomography to the GPR data permitted to determine the position and get a good identification of the edges of the targets studied. The numeric modeling presented a good accordance with real data reducing the ambiguities in interpretation of results. These results can be used as a reference, and they can be extrapolated for areas where there is no subsurface information.
2D TEM Modeling for a Hydrogeological Study in the Paraná Sedimentary Basin, Brazil  [PDF]

Abstract: This work uses 2D TEM (Transient Electromagnetic) modeling for a hydrogeological study in the Paraná sedimentary basin. The study area is located at the northern region of the state of S?o Paulo, Brazil, where groundwater is exploited from two aquifer systems: one sedimentary, shallow, and the other crystalline, deep. The interest in applying the TEM method in this area owes to the high exploitation rates of groundwater from the crystalline aquifer system for irrigation, which is triggering considerable seismic activity locally. This aquifer system is composed of fractured basalt within the Serra Geral Formation and is about 120 m deep. Eighty-six TEM soundings were acquired at this location, but in nine cases the data did not fit the modelled curve for 1D geoelectrical models due to the geological complexity of the area. This paper shows 2D geoelectrical modeling results based on the FDTD (Finite Differences in Time Domain) method to explain the lateral resistivity variation within the geological setting. A 2D model was generated for each sounding and compared with 1D inversion models as well as with direct information from wells. The results show some vertical variations of about 10 to 30 meters on the upper interface of the basalt layer from Serra Geral Formation. They are located at approximately 60 meters from the center of the soundings. The existence of these 2D structures in the subsurface can be related to the drainage system in the study area. The presence of these structures may indicate a connection between the shallow and deep aquifer systems, acting like a conduit that may contribute to the seismic activity reported.
