Abstract: several studies have investigated different injuries that occur among soccer players. however, it has been noticed that none has mentioned injury to the external obturator muscle. as a small and monoarticulated muscle, its incidence is probably low and barely documented in the literature. therefore, the aim of this study is to present four external obturator muscle strain cases in a professional soccer team in 2008. the data was collected from a database using the software sistema de prepara??o desportiva which provides data such as name, diagnosis, trauma mechanism, clinical history, time away from training and progress. all athletes who undertook magnetic resonance imaging (mri) of the external obturator muscle and presented rupture of the external obturator muscle were included in the study. four external obturator muscle strain injuries were identified from a total of twenty-eight muscle strains during the year of 2006. all athletes presented diffuse pain on the hip for medial and lateral rotation of the joint. the predominant injury mechanism was lateral rotation of the trunk over the femur on closed kinetic chain. it was concluded that external obturator muscle strain injuries can be mistaken for those related to the hip adductor muscles due to the reported pain area. clinical examination should be based on the athletes' report and functional tests, mainly for the hip rotator muscles. the mri scan was essential to the location, classification and evaluation of the injury size.

Abstract: This article studies Merlin’s characterization in Miguel de Cervantes’ Don Quixote. In order to do this, the two appearances of the enchanter,in the Montesino’s Cave and in the dukes’ hunt, are analyzed. To understand Merlin’s characterization and the reason of its appearancein Cervantes’ novel, we part from its attributes in Golden Age Castilian Romances of Chivalry and other Chivalric sources. Besides, many attributes of Merlin’s characterization in Cervantes′work are explained with its long tradition, dating to Middle Ages.

Abstract: abstract high momentum direct photons and hadrons are produced at the lhc and the alice experiment measures and identifies them with the help of its calorimeters and tracking system. this studydeals with the production of such particles in p-p collisions at √s = 14 tevby using two monte carlo generators (pythia and herwig) and next to leading order (nlo) predictions. the results show a good agreement among them. special attention was given to the production of direct prompt photons and the use of isolation cutsfortheir identification.

Abstract: the anhedonia hypothesis maintains that pleasure for food-reward is determined by dopamine activity in the brain. the cumulative body of empirical evidence shows that dopamine agonists and antagonists (e.g., methylphenidate and haloperidol, respectively) decrease operant behavior maintained by positive reinforcement. the present study used the generalized matching law (baum, 1974) to assess effects of these drugs on the motor system and the organism's motivation for food reinforcers. thirty-two rats searched for food in a choice situation where the reinforcer ratio provided by two alternatives changed everyday. the results confirmed that the drugs do not impede the rats' rapid adaptation to dynamic changes in the contingencies of reinforcement. preference favored with more responses the alternative associated to the higher probability of reinforcement, showing an increment in sensitivity of behavior ratio to changes in food ratios. the alternative demanding the higher motor requirement showed a decrement in the number of responses, suggesting effects of the drugs in the organism's motor system.

Abstract: A mathematical model was developed to describe fluid flow, heat transfer, and electromagnetic phenomena in the arc and bath regions of DC Electric Arc Furnaces (DCEAF). The model is used to examine the effect on flow patterns and temperature distribution in the bath, under the influence of both an arc and bottom argon injection in steel or steel/slag systems. Validation of the model employed experimental measurements from systems physically related to DC-EAF from literature. For the conditions analyzed, electromagnetic forces dominate the fluid motion in the bath. Buoyancy and shear forces from the arc have a negligible effect in driving the flow; however, they partially counteract the electromagnetic forces. Slag decreases fluid motion in the steel and enhances temperature stratification in the system. Stirring of the bath, using a 3-nozzle inert gas injection system, is found to promote temperature uniformity in the regions near the lateral wall of the furnace.
