Lot Sizing in Production Scheduling at a Personal Protection Equipment Company  [PDF]
José Roberto Dale Luche, Rodolfo Egon Perhs
American Journal of Operations Research (AJOR) , 2016, DOI: 10.4236/ajor.2016.65035
Abstract: This work presents an optimization model to support decisions during production planning and control in the personal protective equipment (PPE) industry (in particular, gloves). A case study was carried out at a Brazilian company with the aim of increasing productivity and improving customer service with respect to meeting deadlines. In this case study, the mixed integer linear programming model of Luche (2009) was revisited. A new model for single-stage lot sizing was applied to the production scheduling of gloves. Optimizing this scheduling was not a simple task because of the scale of the equipment setup time, the diversity of the products and the deadlines for the orders. The model was implemented in GAMS IDE and solved by CPLEX 12. The model and the associated heuristic produce better solutions than those currently used by the company.
Política energética no Brasil
Goldemberg, José;Moreira, José Roberto;
Estudos Avan?ados , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-40142005000300015
Abstract: energy is an essential ingredient to life in modern society. the expansion of brazil's energy infrastructure, both for production and consumption, will demand large investments. this, in turn, requires government planning of energy-related activities, which are usually implemented by the private sector. this presence is essential for: 1. fulfilling society's demand for more and better energy services; 2. stimulating participation in sustainable and enduring energy sources; 3. prioritizing efficient energy use in order to disengage capital for more productive areas of the economy and to preserve the environment; 4. using investment in energy as a source of jobs and a stimulus to domestic industries; 5. incorporating foreign inputs into the energy portfolio when it is commercially and socially advantageous for brazil - including the exportation of energy products and services; and 6. generating energy from various sources to reduce the risk of eventual shortages, in keeping with the country's available energy reserves.

Rumor Propagation Model: An Equilibrium Study
José Roberto C. Piqueira
Mathematical Problems in Engineering , 2010, DOI: 10.1155/2010/631357
Abstract: Compartmental epidemiological models have been developed since the 1920s and successfully applied to study the propagation of infectious diseases. Besides, due to their structure, in the 1960s an interesting version of these models was developed to clarify some aspects of rumor propagation, considering that spreading an infectious disease or disseminating information is analogous phenomena. Here, in an analogy with the SIR (Susceptible-Infected-Removed) epidemiological model, the ISS (Ignorant-Spreader-Stifler) rumor spreading model is studied. By using concepts from the Dynamical Systems Theory, stability of equilibrium points is established, according to propagation parameters and initial conditions. Some numerical experiments are conducted in order to validate the model.
Perez, José Roberto Rus;
Educa??o & Sociedade , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-73302010000400007
Abstract: assuming that it is still valid to distinguish policy into phases (agenda, formulation, implementation and evaluation), this text presents the evolution of the academic reflection and highlights the relevance of studying implementation today. it also brings forth some research results as a contribution to the debate on methodological issues in the assessment of the implementation process, as a specific subarea of the research on policy assessment for the study of educational policies. based on a reflection on the literature produced and on the methodology employed in research on education, it retrieves the changes and opportunities in the field of the implementation of educational policy as a field of practical research, which, these last twenty years, has become an arena of fierce conflicts and of interests, because of a large budget policy. it also approaches the multiple dimensions of welfare state.
A associa??o de Philopota sp. Wiedemann (Diptera, Acroceridae) com flores do Gerv?o-Azul, Stachytarphetta cayenensis (Verbenaceae) na Ilha da Marambaia, Rio de Janeiro, Brasil
Luz, José Roberto Pujol;
Entomología y Vectores , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S0328-03812004000400010
Abstract: the acrocerids (small headed-flies) form a small group of flies, which are difficult to find and observe. they are rare in collections. their larvae are heteromorphic parasitoids of many families of spiders and their imagoes show a great deal of morphological variation. little is known about the biology and systematics of this group in the neotropical region, especially the philopotinae. most studies are based on species from europe and north america. the philopotinae occurs througout the world, and are characterized by the strongly developed postpronota, which form a shield dorsally in front of the scutum. fifty specimens of philopota sp. were collected from branches of stachytarphetta cayenensis (verbenaceae) in the ilha da marambaia (23o 04' s - 43o 53' w, 240 m), southern coast of rio de janeiro state, brazil. the specimens were determined to philopota n.sp. (acc. to evert i. schlinger). in marambaia, s. cayenensis occurs alongside trails. small lycosid spiders were observed associated with litter in the surrounding soil. both males and females of philopota n.sp. visit the flowers periodically. couples in sexual intercourse were observed on the flowers. when feeding, they introduced their whole bodies inside the flower. a territorial behavior was observed involving both males and females. up to four individuals were observed disputing a flower of s. cayenensis at the same time.
"De pequenino é que se torce o pepino": a infancia nos programas eugênicos da Liga Brasileira de Higiene Mental
Reis, José Roberto Franco;
História, Ciências, Saúde-Manguinhos , 2000, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-59702000000200007
Abstract: created in the early 1920s, at a moment when the country?s psychiatric field was embracing the preventive outlook, the liga brasileira de higiene mental included within its members the elite of brazilian psychiatry, along with a number of physicians and intellectuals. the article discusses the institution?s proposals for intervention among children. the league ended up incorporating into its theoretical arsenal the basic themes of mental hygiene and eugenics as part of its general goal of collaborating in brazil?s process of "racial sanitation". with this objective in mind, and viewing the child as a "pre-citizen" who is a "fundamental part within the man of the future", league members included the children?s issue in their projects and saw an imperative need for mental health care from early ages on.
Novaes, José Roberto Pereira;
Estudos Avan?ados , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-40142007000100013
Abstract: since 1970, the sugar cane agro-industry has been going through modernization and production diversification processes that have guaranteed its expansion beyond traditionally productive regions. in recent years, these processes have received more attention due to sugar cane and alcohol?s favorable conditions in the international market and to the international investments in the sector. these changes affect the labor market dynamics, selection processes, kinds of labor agreements, organization of agricultural labor, as well as workers? profile. in this context, agricultural entrepreneurs still give priority to hiring migrant workers during the sugar cane harvest. the main reason for this preference is the high productivity of these workers in cutting sugar cane. since childhood, they have been used to the hard work on the land to ensure means of survival to their families. the work at the sugar cane plantations does not scare them, even when the demands put them at the limit of their physical capacities, deteriorating their body and bringing serious consequences to their health. this article shows the deterioration of work conditions in sugar cane plantations and exposes palliative measures put in practice by sugar factory proprietors in order to improve work conditions and not to alter productivity levels, remuneration and production control.
Acute schistosomiasis mansoni: revisited and reconsidered
Lambertucci, José Roberto;
Memórias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0074-02762010000400012
Abstract: acute schistosomiasis is a systemic hypersensitivity reaction against the migrating schistosomula and eggs. a variety of clinical manifestations appear during the migration of schistosomes in humans: cercarial dermatitis, fever, pneumonia, diarrhoea, hepatomegaly, splenomegaly, skin lesions, liver abscesses, brain tumours and myeloradiculopathy. hypereosinophilia is common and aids diagnosis. the disease has been overlooked, misdiagnosed, underestimated and underreported in endemic areas, but risk groups are well known, including military recruits, some religious congregations, rural tourists and people practicing recreational water sports. serology may help in diagnosis, but the finding of necrotic-exudative granulomata in a liver biopsy specimen is pathognomonic. differentials include malaria, tuberculosis, typhoid fever, kala-azar, prolonged salmonella bacteraemia, lymphoma, toxocariasis, liver abscesses and fever of undetermined origin. for symptomatic hospitalised patients, treatment with steroids and schistosomicides is recommended. treatment is curative in those timely diagnosed.
Kassai, José Roberto;
