Open Journal of Animal Sciences (OJAS) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/ojas.2013.31003
Abstract: This study aimed to analyze the possible metabolic disturbances caused by creatine supplementation on aerobic capacity of rats, inferred by the maximal lactate steady state. Forty male Wistar rats (90 days old) were distributed into two groups for eight weeks: trained group (T): rats that were submitted to a training protocol, and supplemented-trained group (TCr): rats that were submitted to a training protocol and received balanced diet supplemented with 2% creatine. The blood lactate concentrations equivalent to maximal lactate steady state during treadmill running were analyzed at the beginning and also at the end of the experiment. At the end of the experiment were done comparing the test results MLSS between the two groups. At the beginning of the experiment, prior to groups division, the majority of animals obtained MLSS at a speed of26 m/min, blood lactate concentration of 3.79 ± 0.76 mmol/L. At the end of the experiment, most of trained rats in T presented MLSS at the speed of28 m/min, blood lactate concentration of 3.37 ± 0.68 mmol/L. Most TCr had MLSS at the speed of28 m/min, blood lactate concentration of 3.52 ± 0.69 mmol/L. We conclude that creatine supplementation was not the cause of the improvement in the aerobic capacity of rats in the tread-mill exercise.

Abstract: introduction: retrograde autologous priming (rap) is a cardiopulmonary bypass (cpb) method, at low cost. previous studies have shown that this method reduces hemodilution and blood transfusions needs through increased intra-operative hematocrit. objective: to evaluate rap method, in relation to standard cpb (crystalloid priming), in adult patients. methods: sixty-two patients were randomly allocated to two groups: 1) group rap (n = 27) of patients operated using the rap and; 2) control group of patients operated using cpb standard crystalloid method (n = 35). the rap was performed by draining crystalloid prime from the arterial and venous lines, before cpb, into a collect recycling bag. the main parameters analyzed were: 1) cpb hemodynamic data; 2) hematocrit and hemoglobin values; 3) the need for blood transfusions. results: it was observed statistically significant fewer transfusions during surgery and reduced cpb hemodilution using rap. the cpb hemodynamic values were similar, observing a tendency to use lower cpb flows in the rap group patients. conclusion: this investigation was designed to be a small-scale pilot study to evaluate the effects of rap, which were demonstrated concerning the cpb hemodilution and blood transfusions.

Open Journal of Soil Science (OJSS) , 2017, DOI: 10.4236/ojss.2017.78013
Abstract: Natural phosphate rock (NP) solubilization in soils is dependent on the soil pH and its power to remove or drain (sink effect) P and Ca of the solution that is in equilibrium with the NP. The aim of this work was to evaluate the effect of acidity and P- and Ca-sinks on the solubilization of bayóvar reactive rock phosphate (a phosphorite). Samples of this NP in aqueous suspension were placed in a cassette (Slide-A-Lyzzer G2 Dialysis Cassette) compartment and immersed in a beaker containing 150 mL of an aqueous solution with pH adjusted at 4.5 or 6.0, where P- and Ca-sinks individually or in their combinations, were applied. The tested sinks were: Anionic Resin (AR); Cationic Resin (CR); Mixed Resin (MR: AR + CR); Goethite (Goe); Goe + AR; Goe + CR and one control (NP only) in five replicates. Beakers (experimental units) were shaken for 12 h daily, at 130 rpm, until completing 30 days of equilibrium. The suspensions were filtered to extract solution-P from the residue on the filter paper; the labile-P was extracted from this residue using 0.8 mol·L-1 NH4Cl in 2 mol·L-1 HCl and, finally, the remainder P in the same residue together with the filter paper were subjected to nitric-perchloric acid digestion, to determine the P-residual in the extract. Goe caused greater solubilization of the NP, indicating that this P-sink was more effective than AR, causing similar or greater solubilization than CR. AR and CR, in a similar way, significantly restricted the trait characteristic of Goe (p < 0.05), at both pH values, in the solubilization of NP. Although Goe generally caused greater solubilization of the NP, it also caused the lower formation of labile-P. The CR presented, in general, the highest contents of solution-P, thus it triggered solubilization of NP without the immobilization of the solution-P, unlike the one with the AR that adsorbs it. In the lower pH condition (4.5), the solubilization of NP tended to be higher than at pH 6.0, although in a little effective way, compared to the effects of the sinks.

Engenharia Ambiental : Pesquisa e Tecnologia , 2005,
Abstract: The monitoring of the underground water quality assumes importance because of the increasing use of it for the different purposes of the contemporaneous society. Different methods for sampling and monitoring of underground water can take to very distinct results. In this way, the present work has as objective to carry out comparative studies among three methods of sampling of underground waters. Bailer, Electric pump of high flowing and pump of low flowing. Quantitative and qualitative sampling techniques of water quality were opted through monitoring wells. The research involved the identification and analysis of the differences in the results obtained by the methods of sampling of underground waters; the geologic and hydrologic description of the monitoring well, on which the sampling was taken from; and the comparative analysis among the three methods of sampling, determining which ones present the best efficiency. There were made mensurations at the site, collection of samples and interpretation of the chemical analyses. At the end of the works, with the integration of the geologic and hydrologic data and analytic results was possible to indicate that the most precise method of sampling of underground water is the low flowing one.

Semina : Ciências Exatas e Tecnológicas , 2007,
Abstract: This article presents a description of the TRIAD algorithm, which utilizes two vector observations for determining a body three-dimensional attitude. This algorithm describes a deterministic form to calculate the attitude and it does not constitute the optimal solution for the problem, but can be implemented efficiently on computers. The Cartesian covariance matrix for this algorithm is also presented. This matrix calculation are addressed in details, resulting in a simple analytical formula based on two different sensor sets measurements in the body frame. The solutions presented are suited to implement highly integrated attitude determination systems that employ MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems) technology sensors and low cost microcontrollers.
