Espa?os, recursos escolares e habilidades de leitura de estudantes da rede pública municipal do Rio de Janeiro: estudo exploratório
Teixeira, Roberta Araújo;
Revista Brasileira de Educa??o , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-24782009000200003
Abstract: this paper presents the findings of an exploratory study conducted in 2007 in three municipal schools in rio de janeiro, brazil, all participants in the 2005 school generation study (geres) project. as school spaces possess an important educational dimension and material aspects of school play a leading role in establishing educational practices that can curb or spur the dissemination of knowledge and skills, the set of teaching tasks examined in these schools focused mainly on the development of basic reading and writing skills. data sources included photographs of classrooms, book nooks, bulletin boards and reading rooms, with significant aspects of these institutions identified by the types, layouts, uses and functions of spaces and objects designed to encourage reading. this analysis helps build up a better understanding of school effectiveness from the standpoint of the visual discourses presented by schools as factors underpinning the learning process.

Libro de Mano: "Novela Política e Sentimental", um pasquim manuscrito
Azevedo, Francisca L. Nogueira de;Gon?alves, Roberta Teixeira;
Revista Brasileira de História , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-01882010000200010
Abstract: in this article, the authors analyze a document held in the manuscript section of the national library of rio de janeiro, in the manuscript newspapers file, entitled 'a political and sentimental account', a description of the facts of the revolution and the eastern campaign and that of the colony of sacramento 1810-1823. there is neither reference to the document's author nor to the date of its composition. the text has 51 manuscript pages and is divided into three parts. our point of departure is the supposition that the political and sentimental account is political propaganda on behalf of the spanish monarchy. initially highlighted is how pamphlet manuscripts served colonial elites to politically mobilize the illiterate masses. the central point of the article is the analysis of its novel-like narrative in order to show how the discursive elements were used as persuasion in defense of spain.

Teixeira, Rosimere J.;Coelho, Roberta A.;Perecmanis, Tatiana;Madeira, Isabel R.;Bordallo, Maria Alice N.;
Arquivos Brasileiros de Endocrinologia & Metabologia , 2003, DOI: 10.1590/S0004-27302003000200009
Abstract: the prevalence of obesity and presence of low birth weight (lbw) were evaluated retrospectively in 96 children with premature pubarche (pp), from which 90 cases of premature adrenarche were selected. information on bw was found in 46 charts, and 5 prematures were excluded. tanner stages, body mass index (bmi), presence of acanthosis nigricans and bone age (ba) were evaluated. obesity was considered when bmi > the 95th percentile and overweight when bmi > the 85 and <95 percentiles. after a six-month follow-up, the bmi of 62 patients was reeva luated. the results showed that ba was higher than chronological age (7.9±1.97 x 7.0±1.7 years, p<0.001). 70% of the sample showed pubic hair in tanner ii stage in and 31% had acanthosis nigricans. the bw was 3,168.2±528.2g. in 12% of the cases a history of lbw was present, a result not different from the general population (10%). no correlation was found between bmi and bw. obesity was observed in 31% and overweight in 19% of the cases. bmi increased after follow-up (18±3.0 x 19.4±3.5kg/m2, p=0.008). the prevalence of obesity was higher in children with pp than in the brazilian population (31% x 15%, p<0.02). in conclusion, although excess weight is a common finding in pp, birth weight is normal. it is remarkable that these children must be stimulated to lose weight, since pp and obesity are associated with a higher risk for policystic ovary and plurimetabolic syndromes in adulthood.

RSBO , 2009,
Abstract: Introduction and objective: The objective of this study was to evaluate ex vivo the reading accuracy of three electronic apex locators – Root ZX, Bingo 1020 and Ipex –, in respect to the real measure of the teeth.Material and methods: Fifty single root premolar teeth extracted were selected. After coronary access, the length tooth (LT) measurement was directly realized by the insertion of a K#10 file in the canal until its tip was observed in the apical foramen with the help of a magnifying glass (8X). After removing the file, its length was recorded with accuracy of 0.01 mm using digital caliper. Then, the teeth were electronically measured (LE) whit the three apex locators until achieving the zero mark on the display of each unit. The electronically measures obtained were compared with the LT and the differences were analyzed by the Kruskal-Wallis Test and by the test of proportions (α = 0.05). Results: It was found that the Root ZX system was statistically different from the Ipex (p < 0.01), and the Bingo system presented intermediary result, showing to be statistically similar to the Root ZX and Ipex systems (p > 0.05). Within the limit of tolerance of ± 1.0 mm, the results demonstrated an accuracy of 100% for ZX Root, 94% for Bingo and 90% for Ipex when compared to the LT values. However, in the limits of ± 0.5 mm the accuracy achieved was 90% for Root ZX, 68% for Bingo and 52% for the Ipex. Conclusion: It was concluded that all electronic devices tested were able in determining the precise tooth length when considered a variation of 1 mm from the position of apical foramen. Nevertheless, when considered a variation of 0.5 mm, only the unit Root ZX proved to be accurate.

Acta Scientiarum : Animal Sciences , 2006,
20 Saanen goats, 10 first-lactation (P1) and 10 of posterior lactations were examined for a period of 150 d ays lactation. There were two daily milking and a daily milk control. In order to evaluate the chemical composition and somatic cell counts, samples were collected biweekly. Net protein requirements were based on milk production and protein composition of milk, and net energy requirements were based on milk production and fat, protein and lactose composition. The lactation peak was later for P1 goats and persistence of lactation was higher for the posterior lactation ones. Lactation order influenced milk nu trient concentrations, while P1 goats presented greater percentages of this parameter in comparison tothe others. The protein percentage remained unchanged. Net protein and energy requirements were different for goats in different orders of lactation.

Acta Scientiarum : Technology , 2008,
This work evaluates the process of nitrogen removal from wastewater at a meat processing plant, using nitrification and denitrification in bioreactors. The system was composed of two reactors with continuous flow operated in series: a hybrid reactor(anaerobic/anoxic) connected to an ascending flow biological filter with aeration, which recycled into the hybrid reactor. Feeding was accomplished with wastewater from the treatment station of a poultry and swine processing plant. The process was monitored by periodic analysis of the concentrations of ammonia, nitrate, nitrite, alkalinity, chemical oxygen demand (COD) and pH. The nitrogen removal efficiency of the system was compared with the maximum theoretical efficiency for the recycle rate used.
