Abstract: purpose: to evaluate the nuclear maturation stage and the presence of meiotic spindles of in vivo matured oocytes from infertile women undergoing stimulated cycles for intracytoplasmic sperm injection (icsi) and compare intracytoplasmic sperm injection outcomes between oocytes in telophase i (ti) and metaphase ii (mii), and the ones with and without visible meiotic spindle. methods: a prospective and controlled study with 106 infertile patients who underwent ovarian stimulation for intracytoplasmic sperm injection purposes. patients aged 38 years or less, with basal follicle stimulating hormone (fsh) less than 10 miu/ml and body mass index (bmi) less than 30 kg/m2. were included patients presenting any systemic diseases, any active infection, smokers or patients who had been using hormonal medications and hormonal and nonhormonal anti-inflammatory drugs for the past two months prior to the assisted reproduction procedure were excluded. the oocytes with the first polar body extruded (in vivo matured oocytes) were imaged by polarization microscopy immediately before intracytoplasmic sperm injection and characterized according to nuclear maturation stage (telophase i and metaphase ii) and to the presence of a meiotic spindle. we analyzed the fertilization rates, cleavage, number of good quality embryos on the second day (d2) from oocytes on telophase i versus those in metaphase ii, and metaphase ii visible spindle versus non-visible ones. data were analyzed comparatively by fisher's exact test. the level of significance was set at 5% in all analyses (p<0.05). results: the meiotic spindles of 516 oocytes were imaged using polarization microscopy. from the 516 oocytes analyzed, seventeen were in telophase i (3.3%) and 499 (96.7%) in metaphase ii. the oocytes injected in telophase i had significantly lower fertilization rates than those injected in metaphase ii (53 and 78%, respectively) and produced no good quality embryos on day 2. when the oocytes with and without a vi

Abstract: The association between nicotine dependence and affective disorders, particularly major depressive disorder (MDD), is well known with high prevalence rates being reported for smokers. The reason for this association is not clear, but, it has been argued that smoking may help individuals to cope with stress or medicate depressed mood. Smoking cessation programs are useful in helping smokers to quit, but smoking is a very difficult addiction to break, especially for people suffering from depression, and the need for novel and effective approaches to smoking cessation interventions for this special population is unquestionable. The e-cigarette is a battery-powered electronic nicotine delivery device (ENDD), which may help smokers to remain abstinent during their quit attempt. Here, we report for the first time objective measures of smoking cessation in two heavy smokers, suffering from depression, who experimented the e-cigarette.

Revista Latino-Americana de Enfermagem , 1998, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-11691998000100012
Abstract: in the last ten years adolescence has been object of study of many researchers and considered by national and international organizations as an age band with priority to actions of promotion, prevention and protection. many factors contributed to this concern with adolescence, between them, we can emphasize the importance of this populational contingent that represents 30% of world population, besides the questions of precocious pregnancy, aids and drugs. as nurse reseachers, we are interested in experiencing and characterizing quantitatively and qualitatively the scientific production about adolescence in nursing, using as source of data collection the national specific nursing periodicals.data obtained in this research show that the adolescence theme is not explored by the nursing staff, and the most important aspects are related to sexuality.
A Convenient and Safe O-Methylation of Flavonoids with Dimethyl Carbonate (DMC)
Roberta Bernini,Fernanda Crisante,Maria Cristina Ginnasi
Molecules , 2011, DOI: 10.3390/molecules16021418
Abstract: Dietary flavonoids exhibit beneficial health effects. Several epidemiological studies have focused on their biological activities, including antioxidant, antibacterial, antiviral, anti-inflammatory and cardiovascular properties. More recently, these compounds have shown to be promising cancer chemopreventive agents in cell culture studies. In particular, O-methylated flavonoids exhibited a superior anticancer activity than the corresponding hydroxylated derivatives being more resistant to the hepatic metabolism and showing a higher intestinal absorption. In this communication we describe a convenient and efficient procedure in order to prepare a large panel of mono- and dimethylated flavonoids by using dimethyl carbonate (DMC), an ecofriendly and non toxic chemical, which plays the role of both solvent and reagent. In order to promote the methylation reaction under mild and practical conditions, 1,8-diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undec-7-ene (DBU) was added in the solution; methylated flavonoids were isolated in high yields and with a high degree of purity. This methylation protocol avoids the use of hazardous and high toxic reagents (diazomethane, dimethyl sulfate, methyl iodide).

Polímeros , 2000, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-14282000000100006
Abstract: the gelatinization and extrusion processes of corn starch were studied. differential scanning calorimetry and optical microscopy were used to determine the gelatinization temperature, as a function of the water content. plasticized corn starch was processed in single- and twin-screw extruders to produce thermoplastic materials. the mechanical properties of the films obtained in the twin-screw extruder were evaluated. the thermo-dynamical-mechanical analysis of the thermoplastic starch with 33% (w/w) plasticizers showed two transitions, attributed to the starch constituents.

Burnout do profess or e cren as de autoeficácia
Luiza Cristina Mauad Ferreira,Roberta Gurgel Azzi
Eccos Revista Científica , 2011,
Abstract: The purpose of the present article is to encourage reflection on the latest researches about burnout process in teachers, under Bandura's Social Cognitive Theory that, considering the individual's self-regulatory and self-evaluative capabilities, makes it possible to draw an interrelation between labor activities and the process of becoming ill. The reviews of the referred articles bring about the necessity of searching for theoretical-empirical possibilities between labor activities and the individual believes about them. The Social-cognitive theory points at an explanatory-interventive proposal and it has been systematically investigated during the doctors program developed at UNICAMP by Ferreira, under the supervision of Professor Dr. Roberta Azzi.

Abstract:

Background: This is a retrospective study on a group of patients with early glottic carcinoma, treated with curative radiotherapy. The aim of the study is to assess voice quality after treatment. We also evaluated local recurrence, overall survival, disease free survival and toxicity. Material and Methods: We examined a total of 36 patients, out of which 27 were smokers: 10 females/5 smokers; 26 males/22 smokers. The sample was observed from January 2007 to July 2012 (average follow-up period: 33.5 months, range 12 - 76). Diagnosis of early glottic carcinoma was eight during the two-year period 2007/2008, nine during 2009/2010, eleven during year 2011 and eight during year 2012. All patients suffering from early glottic carcinoma, histopathologically confirmed, were classified as follows: 24 patients T1a, 3 patients T1b, 6 patients T2 and 3 patients had a carcinoma in situ. They were treated only with conventional radiotherapy. After the treatment (total dose 70 Gy), patients were asked to fill out the Voice Handicap Index (VHI) questionnaire, composed of 30 questions that covered physical, emotional and functional areas. Results: The global VHI was evidenced with good voice quality (62% of patients: VHI < 30; 34% of patients: VHI 31 -
