Engenharia Agrícola , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-69162010000500020
Abstract: this paper presents a different roof tiles influence study on the thermal comfort for broiler housings. the research was conducted at unesp's experimental campus at dracena, state of s?o paulo, brazil. four prototypes in real scale were built, each with an area of 28 m2. the prototype was covered with roof tiles made of recycled long-life packing material, ceramic tiles, ceramic tiles painted with white coating, and fiber/cement tiles. temperatures inside the structures were recorded in the winter 2007 over a 90-day period. the results obtained indicated that recycled tile thermal behavior was similar to ceramic tiles. however for the winter period all the prototypes had presented comfort thermal index not in the broilers thermo neutral zone.
Evolu??o morfométrica dos anexos embrionários e fetais bovinos obtidos por monta natural, com 10 a 70 dias da gesta??o
Assis Neto, Ant?nio C. de;Morceli, José Ant?nio B.;Fonseca, Ricardo da;Ambrósio, Carlos Eduardo;Pereira, Flávia T.V.;Miglino, Maria Angélica;
Pesquisa Veterinária Brasileira , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-736X2009001000014
Abstract: the main goal of this morphometrical study was to characterize the development of the extra-embryonic membranes of 15 to 70-day-old bovine embryos obtained by natural mating. with a millimeter paquimeter the cranio-caudal, latero-lateral and dorso-ventral measurements of chorion and amnion were determined. the development of the cotyledons and weight of the gestational sac were observed and quantified. the weight of the gestational sac increased during gestation; however, the growth was faster then 20 to 30 days. the cranial-caudal and dorsal-ventral length of the choriallantois and the amnion developed slowly and gradually with progress of the gestational period, and the cranio-caudal length decreased after 50 to 60 days of gestation, increasing in the next period. after 30 to 40 days of gestation, the first cotyledons were visualized and counted easily in the chorionic surface. the growth periods were the same of the main gestational losses in cattle. the parameters analyzed could be useful for investigations of extra-embryonic membranes in organisms manipulated in the laboratory.
The small bowel flora in individuals with cecoileal reflux
Machado, Wellington Monteiro;Miranda, José Ricardo Arruda;Morceli, José;Padovani, Carlos Roberto;
Arquivos de Gastroenterologia , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S0004-28032008000300009
Abstract: background: the observation of cecoileal reflux to barium enema is not rare; however, its causes and consequences have not been widely investigated. considering that ileocecal junction exerts a function as barrier to invasion of bacteria from colon to small bowel, it seems interesting to study the intestinal microflora in subjects carrying cecoileal reflux. aims: this study aims at evaluating the ileal flora in individuals with cecoileal reflux. methods: a group of 36 subjects comprising 30 females and 6 males with a mean age of 54 years was assessed. twenty-five individuals with cecoileal reflux and 11 without cecoileal reflux were submitted to small intestine contamination evaluation through the breath test with lactulose-h2 and measurement of the orocecal transit time by means of alternate current biosusceptometry. small intestine bacterial overgrowth was characterized by orocecal transit time-h2 shortening. results: comparison of basal h2, orocecal transit time-h2 and orocecal transit time-alternate current biosusceptometry measurements did not statistically differ between the groups with and without cecoileal reflux. orocecal transit time-h2 was significantly smaller than orocecal transit time-alternate current biosusceptometry, particularly in individuals with cecoileal reflux. a significant correlation between the two methods was observed only in relation to control, not existing in relation to cecoileal reflux group. conclusions: smaller orocecal transit time-h2 and the loss of correlation with orocecal transit time-alternate current biosusceptometry observed in the individuals with cecoileal reflux suggest a differentiated behavior for such group relative to control, which could be associated with small intestine bacterial overgrowth.

Pesquisa Agropecuária Brasileira , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-204X2008001100011
Abstract: the main objective of this work was to identify new microsatellite markers, linked to the rpp5 resistance gene to asian soybean rust, and to validate previously mapped markers for use in marker-assisted selection (mas) programs. to this end, a f2 population with 100 individuals, derived from crossing between pi 200526 and cultivar coodetec 208, susceptible to rust, was artificially infected and evaluated for its reaction of resistance to rust. microsatellite markers were tested on parents and in the two contrasting bulks to identifying linked markers. two new markers, potentially associated with resistance, were tested in individual plants, and they were found to be linked to gene rpp5 and to be present in the n linkage group of soybean. the selection efficiencies were determined for all markers linked to gene rpp5, and the combination of the markers sat_275+sat_280 was 100%.

Crop Breeding and Applied Biotechnology , 2009,
Abstract: Powdery mildew is one of the most serious diseases of soybean and is found in all producing countries. Thepurpose of this study was to validate microsatellite markers previously identified as associated with resistance to powderymildew in soybean. The study was conducted in two F2 parent populations with contrasting resistance to powdery mildew. Inthe analysis 10 SSR primers were used for the populations, and four polymorphic markers were identified for cross 1(MGBR95-20937 x IAC-Foscarin 31) and three for cross 2 (MGBR-46 x EMBRAPA 48). The Chi-square analysis of thephenotypic evaluation confirmed the expected segregation (3:1) of a dominant gene related to resistance. The polymorphicmarkers also segregated as expected (1:2:1). The markers Sat_366 and Sat_393 in the crosses 1 and 2, respectively, locatedat 9.41 and 12.45 cM from the gene, were considered promising for marker-assisted selection for resistance to powderymildew in soybean, at a selection efficiency of 92.7% and 60.3% respectively.

Revista Brasileira de Ginecologia e Obstetrícia , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-72032007001200005
Abstract: purpose: to analyze which characteristics proposed by the birads lexicon for ultrasound have the greatest impact on distinguishing between benign and malignant lesions. methods: ultrasonography features from the third edition of the birads were studied in 384 nodes submitted to percutaneous biopsy from february 2003 to december 2006, at the medical school of botucatu. for the ultrasonography, the equipment logic 5 with a 7.5-12 mhz multifrequential linear transducer was used. the ultrasonography analysis of the node considered the features proposed by the birads lexicon for ultrasound. the data were submitted to statistical analysis by the logistic regression model. results: the benign lesions represented 42.4% and the malignant, 57.6%. the logistic regression analysis found an odds ratio (or) for cancer of 7.69 times when the surrounding tissue was altered, of 6.25 times when there were microcalcifications in the lesions interior, of 1.95 when the acoustic effect is shadowing, of 25.0 times when there was the echogenic halo, and of 7.14 times when the orientation was non-parallel. conclusions: among the features studied, the lesion limit, represented by the presence or not of the halogenic halo, is the most important differentiator of the benign from the malignant masses.
Prevalência, classifica??o e características do refluxo cecoileal diagnosticado pelo enema opaco
Machado, Wellington Monteiro;Morceli, José;
Radiologia Brasileira , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-39842006000200007
Abstract: objective: retrospectively determining the coloileal reflux prevalence at the barium enema examination, characterizing its distribution by sex and age range and classifying it according to the intensity degree. materials and methods: 715 barium enemas were reviewed, being 268 of male patients and 447 of female patients, with average age of 54 years. results: of the 715 enemas performed, 46.5% showed coloileal reflux, classified as mild (45%), moderate (37.5%) and severe (17.5%). coloileal reflux was present in 48.3% of female and in 43.6% of male patients. the coloileal reflux distribution by age range was 46.1% in individuals less than 21 years, 42.1% in individuals between 21-40, 49.8% in individuals between 41-60 and 44.7% in people more than 60 years old. conclusion: coloileal reflux was a common finding, with 25% of them being classified as moderate or severe. apparently, there is not a clear relationship between its occurrence and gender or age. the etiopathogenesis and consequences of the coloileal reflux remain still poorly known. some studies suggest that the compromising of ileocecal junction components, like ligaments, could favor the coloileal reflux occurrence. among the probable consequences, we could mention contamination and ileal motility disorders resulting from the material refluxed from cecum into the ileum.
