Arquivos de Neuro-Psiquiatria , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S0004-282X2008000300016
Abstract: we studied 386 cases of spinal cord injury to analyze the follow up of the patients admitted most of the time more than four hours, the majority of the injuries happening far from the attending health service and first specialized care received long after the accident. this is a clinical study based on data collected during hospitalization of the patients, operated or not, in a brazilian public health service. the lesion mainly seen was fracture and dislocation, isolated or on multiple levels, and the most important clinical complications were due to respiratory failure and hypotension, especially because 73.8% were from outside and they were admitted more then four hours after the trauma. the mortality rate was 11.9%, but just 2.1% had undergone a surgery. the complications resulted in major risk of death when the trauma was at the cervical level and the patients were over 50 years old, especially when admitted more than four hours after the trauma. we emphasize the importance of the first health care concerning the clinical treatment, aiming to reduce the mortality rate.

Abstract: this work evaluated the effect of 1-methylcyclopropene (1-mcp) on susceptibility to chilling injury (ci) in 'perola' pineapple, harvested at the commercial maturity from santa rita municipality, paraíba state, northeast brazil. fruits were treated at room temperature with 1-mcp (0, 300, 600, and 1200 ppb) for a 12-hour period and stored: a) during 42 days at 10oc, evaluated each 7 days and, when transferred to room conditions (25oc and 65±5% r.h.), followed 21, 28, 35, and 42 days, and were also evaluated after 7 days; b) during 32 days at 7oc, evaluated at 8-day intervals, transferred to room conditions followed 8, 16, 24, and 32 days, and evaluated after 7 days. for pineapple kept at 10oc it was not observed 1-mcp effect of retarding the loss of fruit quality. for fruits stored at 7oc, 1-mcp minimized the incidence of ci when pineapples were transferred to room conditions.
Respostas auditivas evocadas de latência média: um estudo de padroniza??o
Almeida, Francisco Sales de;Pialarissi, Paulo Roberto;Paiva Júnior, Luiz Eduardo Ferreira;Almeida, Maria Aparecida Oliveira;Silva, André;
Revista Brasileira de Otorrinolaringologia , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S0034-72992006000200013
Abstract: the presence of auditory middle latency evoked responses allows us to make an evaluation of the peripheral and central auditory system integrity , as well as the nucleus and auditory ways existing until the level of the thalamus-cortical region and primary auditory cortex. aim: our objective is to evaluate the presence or not of this numerous peaks, as well as, their latencies and intervals and extend to make a standardizing study. way of study: contemporary study of coorte with transversal cut and the outline was quantitative, descriptive e non experimental. material and method: studying several peaks, positives and negatives, caused by the middle latency auditory potentials, in a population of young adults individuals, ranging from 18 to 30 years old, from both genders, with normal hearing. it was used a monoauricular resonant stimulation and a capitation, separately, in both cerebral hemispheres, with surface electrodes. results: in this research was verified that the analyzed crossings did not present statistically significant results and it was stipulated a pattern from the obtained results. based on the non-statistical difference found we can affirm that to the po waves was obtained respectively an average and standard deviation of 12,09 and 1,84; for na 17,91 and 2,60; for pa 29,41 and 5,66; for nb 41,43 and 8,89; to for 51,44 ms e 12,63 and finally to the interval na-pa 11,52 and 4,99. conclusion: 1- the presence of the defluxions po, na, and pa was verified in all the registers, whereas the defluxions nb and pb were absent in only 06 registers. 2- by having these registers, we evaluated that the inveiglement of these defluxions can be used as a reliable method to detect the average latency of the auditory potentials, by electrical generated activities, possibly in sites located in the thalamus-cortical area, evoked by sonorous stimulation. from that point, we establish a pattern of responses for young ones with normal hearing, helping us with future studies

American Journal of Plant Sciences (AJPS) , 2018, DOI: 10.4236/ajps.2018.95078
Abstract: The aims of study were to evaluate growth and characterize the visual symptoms of macronutrient and micronutrient deficiencies in mangosteens. The seedlings were cultivated in nutritive solution containing all required macronutrient and micronutrients and in solutions with omission of N, P, K, Ca, Mg, S, B, Cu, Fe, Mn, and Zn, using the missing element technique. The experimental design was completely randomized with five replicates and twelve treatments. Symptoms of nutrient deficiency were accompanied by photographic records and described from beginning until complete definition, in which the plants were collected. Growth was evaluated through of dry mass production and nutrient contents. Nutrients omissions resulted in morphological alterations, characteristic symptoms of nutritional deficiency, promoted the reduction in dry mass production in plant, in which the Fe was most limiting, followed by N, and S. Macronutrients and micronutrients contents, without deficiencies (complete treatment) and deficient in mangosteen leaves were respectively: N (16.4 and 12.5 g kg-1); P (1.1 and 0.2 g kg-1); K (10.2 and 8.1 g kg-1); Ca (6.7 and 1.9 g kg
