The Role of Everolimus in the Treatment of Breast Cancer  [PDF]
José Pablo Leone, Ricardo H. álvarez
Journal of Cancer Therapy (JCT) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/jct.2013.47136
Abstract: The development of resistance to chemotherapy, endocrine therapy and anti HER2 agents in breast cancer is an important and common problem that impacts in the management of patients, particularly in the metastatic setting. This resistance has been explained in part by the activation of signal transduction pathways, including the PI3K/AKT/mTOR. The blockade with mTOR inhibitors such as everolimus is a new target agent for therapy that attempts to enhance treatment efficacy and restore tumor sensitivity. In this review article, we present the data about the use of everolimus for the treatment of breast cancer in all tumor phenotypes. Future studies that evaluate biomarkers for treatment response are needed to identify the specific populations that have the highest benefit of this new targeted therapy.

Barroso, Ricardo;Martel, José;
Educación matemática , 2008,
Abstract: in this paper we show how the theory by jean piaget and rolando garcía, which was developed in psychogenesis and history of science (1982), can be interpreted from a practical perspective and context used in geometry. we make a characterization of the triad from the literature review, according to the work of various researchers, performing a particular case of geometry. we characterize the development of a scheme "geometric problem solving". with two examples of problems with different levels of difficulty, we discusse various strategies resolution that can be considered in each of the three modes of development of thought (intra-inter-trans) proposed by these authors.

Norma e forma??o: horizontes filosóficos para as práticas de avalia??o no contexto da promo??o da saúde
Ayres,José Ricardo;
Ciência & Saúde Coletiva , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-81232004000300011
Abstract: health promotion has been widely described as a new and promising paradigm for health services. the emphasis in a comprehensive approach to care and prevention, the comittment to quality of life as a main goal and the assumption of community participation as a fundamental tool for services planning and monitoring are its main foundations. despite the expressive production on health promotion, little have been discussed, however, on the necessary philosophical shifts this approach introduces in the way health practices are to be planned and evaluated. the objective of the present essay is to identify these changes and their consequences for health practices in general and evaluation procedures in particular. philosophical hermeneutics, heidegger's ontology and gadamer's approach to the aristotelian concept of practical wisdom conform its interpretive framework. the main argument is that evaluation shall have its focus on the meaning of health practices for human development, beyond (and by means of) their technical objectives. theoretical and practical implications of this philosophical perspective for evaluation procedures are also pointed out.

Trabalho e sindicato: posi??es em debate na sociologia hoje
Ramalho, José Ricardo;
Dados , 2000, DOI: 10.1590/S0011-52582000000400006
Abstract: work and trade unions are recurrent themes in the sociological literature focusing on processes designated as "productive restructuring". this article discusses both the way by which labor sociology has analyzed and interpreted these themes and the debate emerging from the issue of "flexibilization". in the case of work, i refer to the sociology that has concentrated on scrutinizing new company management strategies, the turnaround in the work market and employment relations, and the consequences of these changes for social organization in industrialized capitalist societies. in the case of trade unions, i deal with the studies concerned with the crisis of representation, the end of "trade unionism with solidarity", and the difficulties brought about by the proliferation of forms of work that have taken hold (part-time work, temporary work, informal work, home work, etc.), job cuts, unemployment, and exclusion.
