Respostas fisiológicas ao exercício agudo em ratos obesos tratados com metformina

Abstract: the purpose of the present study was to investigate the physiological responses to intense exercise in obese wistar rats treated with metformin. to induce obesity, all animals were infused with monosodic glutamate (4 mg/g of body weight) via subcutaneous injection. the rats were divided in 4 groups according to the received treatment: obese control (oc); obese metformin ( om); obese control exercise (oce) and obese metformin exercise (ome). before and after one session of intense exercise the following parameters were measured: serum glucose (mg/dl), triglycerides (g/100g), total cholesterol (mg/dl) and haematocrit (%). the values of serum glucose and total cholesterol were significantly reduced in control exercise group (oce - 68.4 ± 14.7 and 70.8 ±18.3) compared to obese control sedentary group (oc - 83.6 ± 12.8 and 91.3 ± 9.6). the isolate metformin infusion decreased the glucose concentration from 83.6 ± 12.8 (oc) to 70.8 ± 5.9 (om). on the other hand, metformin associated with exercise increased the availability of free triglycerides after exercise (om - 166.6 ± 11.3, ome - 184.0 ± 4.3). in conclusion, the present intervention program (intense physical exercise) showed to be efficient on glicemic homeostasis, as well as on lipids circulatory levels in obese rats treated with metformin.

Abstract: the purpose of this study was to identify the exercise intensity equivalent to the aerobic/anaerobic metabolic transition in obese rats of both genders using the maximal lactate steady state (mlss) protocol. four groups of rats were tested on mlss protocol (swimming exercise): male control n=10, female control n=10, male obese n=10 and female obese n=10, after suitable adaptation to exercise in liquid medium and obesity induction by monossodic glutamate (msg) administration. the obese groups had significant increase in subcutaneous adipose tissue as well as mesenteric and retroperitoneal fat depots comparing to the control groups. the lee index was higher in the obese animals in comparison to their respective controls. it was possible to identify the mlss at 6.0% of body weight for both obese groups. concerning the female control group, the mlss was determined at the intensity of 5.0% of body weight, whereas for the male control at 4.5% of body weight. it was concluded that obesity induced by msg interferes in lactate kinetics during exercise and alters the effort intensity corresponding to the metabolic transition in both genders.

Abstract: [es] El artículo propone entrecruzar, a partir de sus principales conceptos y proposiciones teóricas, a dos de los más importantes intelectuales del siglo XX: Walter Benjamin y Michel Foucault.Tanto Benjamin como Foucault propusieron pensar el orden social y, a partir de ello, elaboraron una maquinaria crítica que posibilitó definir cómo las prácticas y discursos que sofocan los cambios sociales son, al mismo tiempo, el propio dominio desde el cuál emprender una acción transformadora.En ese sentido, nuestro objetivo es, a pesar de las divergencias y distancias que reconocemos entre ambos autores, indagar aquellos discursos que nos permitan examinar sus convergencias respecto de cómo piensan la dinámica del cambio social. Para ello, reflexionamos acerca de las nociones de poder, derecho, violencia, verdad, discurso, sujeto, revolución e intelectual -entre otras- para observar de qué manera Benjamin y Foucault posibilitan pensar múltiples dimensiones de acción política transformadora en el sistema capitalista actual. [en] This article seeks to compare the main concepts and theoretical propositions of two of the most important intellectuals of the 20th century: Walter Benjamin and Michel Foucault.Both, Benjamin and Foucault, proposed to think the social order and, from there, they elaborated a critical machinery that made possible to define how the practices and discourses that suffocate social changes are, at the same time, the starting point for revolutionary action.In this regards, our aim is, in spite of the differences and distances that we recognize between both authors, to investigate those discourses that allow us to examine their convergences concerning how they think the dynamics of social change.With this purpose, we reflect about the notions of power, right, violence, truth, discourse, subject, revolution, intellectual, among others, to observe in which way Benjamin and Foucault make possible to think multiple dimensions of the revolutionary political action in the current capitalist system.

Abstract: the maximal lactate steady state (mlss) is considered the gold standard method for determination of aerobic/anaerobic metabolic transition during continuous exercise, but the blood lactate response at this intensity is ergometer-dependent in human beings. an important tool for exercise physiology and correlated fields is the use of animal models. however, investigation on evaluation protocols in rats is scarce. the aim of the present study was to verify if the mlss is ergometer-dependent for the evaluation of the aerobic conditioning of rats. therefore, 40 adult male wistar rats were evaluated in two different exercise types: swimming and treadmill running. in both, the mlss was obtained with 4 continuous 25 minutes tests, at different intensities, performed at 48 hours intervals. in all tests, blood samples were collected from a cut at the tail tip every 5 minutes for blood lactate analysis. the swimming tests occurred in a deep cylindrical tank, with water temperature at 31 ± 1°c. the loads used in the tests were 4.5; 5.0; 5.5 and 6.0% of the body weight tied to the animal's back. for mlss determination in running exercise, there was selection of running rats and velocities used in the tests were 15, 20, 25, 30 m.min-1. the mlss was interpreted as an increase not exceeding 1.0 mm of blood lactate, from the 10th to the 25th minute of exercise. the mlss in swimming exercise occurred at 5.0% of body weight (bw), with blood lactate at 5.20 ± 0.22 mm. the running rats presented mlss at the 20 m.min-1 velocity, with blood lactate of 3.87 ± 0.33 mm. the results indicated that the mlss is ergometer-dependent in experimental models using animals, as it is in human beings.

Abstract: introduction: the level of stress during acute/chronic exercise is important, since higher levels of stress may impair animal welfare. the adrenocorticotrophic (acth) and corticosterone hormone concentrations, as well as cholesterol and ascorbic acid concentrations in adrenal gland, are considered an important stress biomarker. purpose: to analyze the sensitivity of the different biomarkers during acute swimming exercise in different intensities performed by rats. methods: male wistar adult rats (n = 18) previously adapted to swimming were submitted to three 25 min. swimming tests with loads of 5.0; 5.5 and 6.0% of their body weight (bw), for maximum lactate steady state (mlss) determination. after mlss attainment, the animals were divided into two groups: m (n = 9) sacrificed shortly after a 25 min. session of exercise at the mlss intensity or s (n = 9) sacrificed after exhaustive exercise at intensity 25% above mlss. for comparison purposes, a control group c (n = 10) was sacrificed in rest. results: serum acth and corticosterone concentrations were higher after exercise for the two groups (m and s) when compared with control group c (p < 0.05). the group s presented higher concentrations for both hormones in relation to the group m (p < 0.05). the concentrations of the cholesterol and ascorbic acid in adrenal were lower after exercise for the two groups (m and s) when compared with control group c (p < 0.05). no significant differences in adrenal ascorbic acid and cholesterol levels were observed when the two exercise intensities (m and s) were compared (p < 0.05). conclusion: all biomarkers of hpa activity pointed alterations in the stress level of the rats submitted to acute swimming exercise. acth and corticosterone serum concentrations showed to be more sensitive to small alterations in the effort intensity.

Abstract: since jango's inauguration in 1961, a growing campaign, created by the government, which had just begun and guided by various groups of the right, focused the likelihood of the country to adopt the communism. through the means of communication - newspapers, television, cinema, as well as through limited circulation journals which were very expressive -, the groups tried to show that it was being articulated, from the republic presidency, the break of the constitutional legality. nevertheless it was the radicalism of certain speeches at "central do brasil assembly. that brought up the big catalytic agent of the adherence of an important component of the society surrounding the proposals of the several actors who articulated jo?o goulart's overthrow. the "marcha da família com deus pela liberdade" (the family with god for liberty march) embodied this relation showing that to a big amount of brazilians the defence of the constitutional legality was not in the hands of the government any longer. on the contrary, for those who participated of the "march", it presented itself under the banner of the people who articulated the blow.

Estimation of Natural Gas Production, Import and Consumption in Brazil Based on Three Mathematical Models  [PDF]

Abstract: A mathematical model capable of providing a forecast of future consumption and import of natural gas is essential for the planning of the Brazilian energy matrix. The aim of this study is to compare three mathematical models, logistic model or model of Verhulst, exponential model or the model of Malthus and the model of von Bertalanffy to analyze the possibilities of these models to describe the evolution of production, import and consumption of natural gas in Brazil, from data provided by the energy balance of the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) from 1970 to 2009. A projection of the production and the import of natural gas up to 2017 is made with the models studied in this article and compared with the Brazilian Ten-Year Plan for Expansion of Energy (PDE). At the end of this paper a comparison with the Hubbert model for Brazilian natural gas production is made. These data were adjusted to use the differential equations which describe the models of population growth. All the computer work used in this article: graphics, resolution of differential equations, calculations of linearization and the least squares fitting was prepared in the software MatLab. The results obtained by means of graphs show that the population dynamics models (logistic, exponential and von Bertalanffy) can be applied in modeling the production, import and consumption of natural gas in Brazil.

Abstract: Legume nodulation by rhizobia can supply crops with nitrogen and reduce environmental impacts caused by chemical fertilization. The soybean crop in Brazil is an impressive example of how biological N2 fixation can be employed with a plant species of high economic value. However, the development of more productive cultivars, along with the increasing global climatic changes demand agricultural practices to become more productive and yet more environmentally friendly. Plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) are highly beneficial to agriculture worldwide, acting in plant nutrition, protection, and growth stimulation. Azospirillum is, certainly, the most employed PGPR in the world, but little is known about its interaction with rhizobia, when both are applied to legume seeds. We have evaluated the co-inoculation of bradyrhizobia and azospirilla on soybean seeds under different soil and climate conditions in Brazil. Our results demonstrated that co-inoculation is efficient and beneficial to the crop, and promotes yield increases without adding any chemical N fertilizers even in soils where established populations of soybean bradyrhizobia exist. The strategy of co-inoculation thus represents a new biotechnological tool to improve soybean yield without adding any chemical N fertilizers, thus contributing to current practices of sustainability in agriculture.

Abstract: We describe two circular morphological features representing depressed areas. This preliminary work is based on visual interpretations from Landsat ETM satellite images and SRTM Radar scans. The two geoforms are located at the north of the Sierras Pampeanas in Argentina. The La Ciénaga circular indentation is 15 km in diameter and Las Cejas is 34 km in diameter. Until now rings of these characteristics, magnitudes and diameters are unknown and unheard of in Argentina.
