História (S?o Paulo) , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-90742009000200012
Abstract: in the last decades, has become common, building sources based in police and judicial records in historic research. in brazilian historiography the issue most significantly marked by this phenomenon was the enslavement of africans and their descendants. with special attention to the construction of the sources analyzed in such studies, this article aims to understand and interpret the role given by members of the imperial brazilian state to the freeman and slave in the picture of building a modern concept of criminality. to reach this objective, besides the penal codes, we analyzed the reports issued by the ministers of justice. trying to contribute to the debate expert, this study asserts that, despite the perpetuation of slavery after the political independence of the country, many were the circumstances in which distinction between the freeman and the slave went not expressed.

Custos de Troca em Tecnologia da Informa o: a Proposi o de um Modelo Taxon mico Integrado a partir da Literatura Switching costs in Information Technology: the proposal of an integrated taxonomic model based on literature
Ricardo Engelbert,Alexandre Graeml

Alexandre Barin, Luciane N. Canha, Alzenira R. Abaide, Karine F. Magnago, Breno Wottrich, Ricardo Q. Machado
Energy and Power Engineering (EPE) , 2011, DOI: 10.4236/epe.2011.34069
Abstract: In view of the current and predictable energy shortage and environmental concerns, the exploitation of renewable energy sources offers great potential to meet increasing energy demands and to decrease depend- ence on fossil fuels. However, introducing these sources will be more attractive provided they operate in conjunction with energy storage systems (ESS). Furthermore, effective energy storage management is essential to achieve a balance between power quality, efficiency, costs and environmental constraints. This paper presents a method based on the analytic hierarchy process and fuzzy multi-rules and multi-sets. By exploiting a multiple criteria analysis, the proposed methods evaluate the operation of storage energy systems such as: pumped hydro and compressed air energy storage, H2, flywheel, super-capacitors and lithium-ion storage as well as NaS advanced batteries and VRB flow battery. The main objective of the study is to find the most appropriate ESS consistent with a power quality priority. Several parameters are used for the investigation: efficiency, load management, technical maturity, costs, environmental impact and power quality.
Influence of the Chemical Composition of Completion Fluids on the Propagation of Electromagnetic Waves within Oil Wells  [PDF]
Alexandre Ashade Lassance Cunha, Marco Aurélio Pacheco, José Ricardo Bergmann
Engineering (ENG) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/eng.2012.412A122
Abstract:

The propagation of electromagnetic waves in the annular region of oil wells was studied. The present study aims to analyse the propagation attenuation along the well, as well as the input impedance determined by a source placed near the wellhead. A coaxial waveguide model was adopted with heterogeneous dielectrics and losses. First, a wave equation solution for the waveguide is presented, assuming a homogeneous medium with losses, by solving the equation in cylindrical coordinates using the vector potential technique. An uncertainty analysis model is then developed to model the heterogeneous characteristics of the medium. Monte Carlo simulations were performed with the created model using data gathered from the literature. The results of the simulations indicate that propagation in the transverse electromagnetic mode has the smallest attenuation and that for depths of up to 4000 m, there is an attenuation of less than 52 dB. Furthermore, the input impedance ranges from 10 Ω to 10 kΩ because of the uncertainties involved in the problem in question.

Pedroso, Ricardo Alexandre;Demiate, Ivo Mottin;
Ciência e Tecnologia de Alimentos , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-20612008000100005
Abstract: the use of carrageenan in ham is facultative, but the addition of starch is not allowed by the brazilian legislation in this kind of product. in this work, a 22 experimental design was used, with duplicates of the central point, considering starch (0 to 2%) and carrageenan levels (0 to 1%) in the production of turkey ham. in both cases, starch and carrageenan showed negative effects on the purge loss and on the reheating loss, indicating that the presence of the hydrocolloids favored the retention of water in the product. however, there were no significant differences in ph, chemical composition, shear values and in the sensory evaluation. a synergistic effect between the polysaccharides was noted. samples made with 1% carrageenan presented the formation of a gelatinous exudate, but the samples that had 1% carrageenan and 2% starch, did not exhibit this effect. the inclusion of starch to the turkey ham with added carrageenan reduced this undesirable effect. the utilization of starch in ham improved some physicochemical characteristics, reduced defects and there were no sensory differences when the turkey ham with added starch was compared to the brazilian standard without starch.

Fiorio, Peterson Ricardo;Demattê, José Alexandre M.;
Scientia Agricola , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-90162009000200015
Abstract: traditional soil analyses are time-consuming with high cost and environmental risks, thus the use of new technologies such as remote sensing have to be estimulated. the purpose of this work was to quantify soil attributes by laboratory and orbital sensors as a non-destructive and a non-pollutant method. the study area was in the region of barra bonita, state of s?o paulo, brazil, in a 473 ha bare soil area. a sampling grid was established (100 × 100 m), with a total of 474 locations and a total of 948 soil samples. each location was georeferenced and soil samples were collected for analysis. reflectance data for each soil sample was measured with a laboratory sensor (450 to 2,500 nm). for the same locations, reflectance data was obtained from a tm-landsat-5 image. multiple linear regression equations were developed for 50% of the samples. two models were developed: one for spectroradiometric laboratory data and the second for tm-landsat-5 orbital data. the remaining 50% of the samples were used to validate the models. the test compared the attribute content quantified by the spectral models and that determined in the laboratory (conventional methods). the highest coefficients of determination for the laboratory data were for clay content (r2 = 0.86) and sand (r2 = 0.82) and for the orbital data (r2 = 0.61 and 0.63, respectively). by using the present methodology, it was possible to estimate cec (r2 = 0.64) by the laboratory sensor. laboratory and orbital sensors can optimize time, costs and environment pollutants when associated with traditional soil analysis.
