Complications following Use of Intraoperative Mitomycin-C in Pterygium Surgery.
Imtiyaz Ahmad, Reyaz Ahmad Untoo, Sheikh Sajjad.
JK Science : Journal of Medical Education & Research , 2004,
Abstract: This study was designed to evaluate the possible complications following the use of intraoperativemitomycin-C in patients undergoing surgery for primary pterygium. Hundred eyes of 88 patients withprimary pterygium were operated upon using ''bare sclera technique''. Intraoperatively all the patientswere applied freshly prepared mitomycin-C 0.02% (0.2 mg/ml) on the bare sclera for a period of 5 minutes, after which the eyes were thoroughly rinsed with a sterile balanced salt solution. Postoperatively, none ofthe patients recieved mitomycin-C eye drops. After a mean postoperative followup of 14 months, 4 eyes(4%) of 4 patients developed thinning of the sclera with visualization of the underlying uveal tissue. Oneeye (1%) developed extreme thinning of the sclera with ectasia of the underlying uveal tissue, requiringa scleral patch. Recurrence was seen in 2 eyes (2%) only. The study shows that although intraoperativemitomycin-C (0.02%) reduces the recurrence of pterygium, it leads to serious, cosmetically unacceptableand even sight-threatening complications.
Result of Intraoperative Mitomycin C Application in Dacryocystorhinostomy

JK Science : Journal of Medical Education & Research , 2002,
Abstract: Th is study was undertaken to evaluate the long term results 0 f intraoperative mitomyc inC app Iicat ionin dacryocystorh inostomy (DC R) surgery compared ith resul ts of the conventiona I procedure. Inth is prospect ivc random ised controlled study, a tota I 01" 44 eyes diagnosed ith acqu ired nasolacrimalduct obstruction ere randomly divided into a cOI1entional DCR group and a mitomycin C groupin hich mitomycin C 3S used during OCR surger). The surgical procedures in both groups erec~actl; the same. except that in the patients in the mitomycin C group. a piece of neurosurgicalcottonoid soa~ed ith 0.2 mg/mlmitomycin C was applied to the osteotom) site for 30 minutes.1 he results of the DCR surgeries were evaluated by objective findings such as irrigation andthcheight of tear meniscus and subjective symptoms like condition oftearing Among the ~2 eyes in theIII itomyci n C grou p. 95.45% of patients rema ined tota lIy sym plom free a ner 9 monl hs 0 (" ("0110 up:hile in the conenlional group. 72.72% o("patients were reported to be symptom free and 18% 01"patients to have all improvement ill their symptoms. There was a significant difference betccnthese ho groups. As far as objective findings ere concerned. there cre 21 eyes in thc mitomycinC group classified as having normal and one eye ith moderate tear meniscus level. compared ith16 eyes and 3 eyes. respectivel), in the conventional group. There as also a significant differencebeleen these two groups. The non-patency rate in the mitomycin C group as 4.50/0 compared ith II A% in the conventional group. There were no complications such as abnormal nasal bleeding.11lucosalnecrosis or infection except one patient with delayed wound healing. Thus intraoperativemitomycin C application was effective in increasing the success rate of OCR surgery in standardnasolarcimal duct obstruction and no significant complications resulted from its use.

JK Science : Journal of Medical Education & Research , 2003,
Abstract: Localized orhital non-Hodgkin's lymphoma is a rare form of cxtranodallymphoma. which has 1101been reported much in the literature. The orbit difTers from the rest 01" the body. excluding thet.:l:llIralncn OllS system. as concerns lymph drainage. This ma) be possible to explain some of thepeculiar I"ealllres in lymphoid orbital lesions. A localized orbital non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in "ndderl) man is hereb) presented for its entlY.
Bilateral Severe Ectropion and Mature Cataract in Lamellar Ichthyosis
Intiyaz A. Lone, Reyaz A. Untoo, Sheikh S. Ahmad
JK Science : Journal of Medical Education & Research , 2004,
Abstract: Lamellar ichthyosis is a rare, autosomal recessive, genetically heterogeneous skin disorder causedby mutations in the transglutaminase-1 gene. Eye abnormalities include bilateral ectropion of lowerlids, chronic blepharitis and rarely cataract. A case of lamellar ichthyosis with bilateral lower lidectropion and bilateral mature cataract is hereby presented for its rarity.
Visual Rehabilitation Following Manual Small Incision Cataract Surgery
Imtiyaz Ahmad, Abdul Wahab, Sheikh Sajjad, Reyaz A Untoo
JK Science : Journal of Medical Education & Research , 2005,
Abstract: Recent technological advances in cataract surgery with small incision ensure less surgically inducedastigmatism and faster visual rehabilitation .Manual small incision non phaco surgery has addedadvantage of low cost and less machine dependence. We present a series of 115 patients whowere operated upon using manual small incision cataract surgery and studied for visual recovery.95.65% of patients achieved a best corrected visual acuity of 6/12 or better and the mean surgicallyinduced astigmatism at 3 months was 0.69 Diopters .
Comparision of Latanoprost and Dorzolamide in Patient with Open Angle Glaucoma
Imtiyaz Ahmad Lone, A.Rizvi, S.S.Ahmad, Reyaz Ahmad Untoo
JK Science : Journal of Medical Education & Research , 2003,
Abstract: To compare the ocular hypotensive efficacy and side effects of either latanoprost or dorzolamide inpatients with open angle glaucoma, forty-four patients with open angle glaucoma were included in arandomized, double masked study for a period of 3 months. All previous glaucoma medications werestopped and the patients were randomized to receive either latanoprost 0.005% at bed time ordorzolamide 2% three times daily. After 3 months, the mean reduction in rap was 6.8 (SD 3.1) mmHg in the latanoprost group as compared to 4.7 (SD 2.4) mm Hg in the dorzolamide group. Thedifference of 2.1 nun Hg was highly significant. Both the drugs were well tolerated systemically andlocally. Latanoprost was superior to dorzolamide in reducing the mean lOP and thus has the potential forbecoming the first line treatment in glaucoma.

Repeat DCR with Silicone Tube Intubation : A Prospective Study
Imtiyaz A.Lone, Abdul Wahab, Sheikh Sajjad Ahmad, Reyaz A. Untoo.
JK Science : Journal of Medical Education & Research , 2004,
Abstract: Forty patients who were operated upon for chronic dacryocystitis six months to two years beforepresented with history of persistent watering and discharge. Repeat DCR with silicone tube intubationwas performed in all the patients. Post-operative follow-up for a period of 12-18 months revealedabsence of symptoms in 38 patients while 2 patients persisted with watering and discharge despiteuncomplicated surgical procedure.
Some Classes of Operators Related to p-Hyponormal Operator  [PDF]
Md. Ilyas, Reyaz Ahmad
Advances in Pure Mathematics (APM) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/apm.2012.26063
Abstract: We introduce a new family of classes of operators termed as *p-paranormal operator, classes *A(p,p); p > 0 and *A(p,q); p, q > 0, parallel to p-paranormal operator and classes A(p,p); p> 0 and A(p,q); p, q > 0 introduced by M. Fujii, D. Jung, S. H. Lee, M. Y. Lee and R. Nakamoto [1]. We present a necessary and sufficient condition for p-hyponormal operator T∈B(H)to be *p-paranormal and the monotonicity of *A(p,q). We also present an alternative proof of a result of M. Fujii, et al. [1, Theorem 3.4].
