DISTIN O E CONTINUIDADE: UMA RESPOSTA AO PROBLEMA LEIBNIZIANO DA CONSCIêNCIA DISTINCTION AND CONTINUITY: AN ANSWER TO LEIBNIZ’S PROBLEM OF CONSCIOUSNESS
RENATA RAMOS DA SILVA
Synesis , 2012,
Abstract: The concept of apperception reflects the fundamental feature of Leibniz’s theory of perception, a theory which dissociates the act of perceiving from consciousness. However, the monads` series of perceptions is, according to the philosopher, governed by the principle of continuity, and this entails some difficulties when one tries to understand apperception as a perception of second-order and discontinuous in relation to the other perceptions. For that reason, we will defend that the best interpretation of Leibniz’s concept of apperception is that consciousness results from an increase in the degree of distinction of first-order perceptions, which renders unnecessary the resort to second-level perceptions.

Paulo Renata Rodri Roney ávila Fagúndez,Renata Rodrigues Ramos
Espa?o Jurídico : Journal of Law , 2010,
Emancipa o. Satyagraha. Ghandi.

Abstract: this study inquired whether quality of life (qol) among elderly patients with knee osteoarthritis (oa) may be influenced by sociodemographic and/or clinic and functional factors. a sample of 40 elderly outpatients from a gerontological rehabilitation service in sao paulo answered the brazilian version of the 36-item short form survey (sf-36). functionality, joint stiffness and pain were assessed by the womac - western ontario and macmaster universities osteoarthritis index. further data on sociodemographic and clinical features, including pain-relieving strategies, were obtained by a complementary questionnaire. by means of linear regression analysis, an independent relationship was found between the womac functionality domain and six sf-36 domains (p<0.05). in the studied sample, poor qol was found to be correlated to difficulty in functional activities, using a gait assistive device, to present bilateral knee impairment, to resort to several means to relieve pain, as well being illiterate and living with another elderly (r=0.3; p<0.05). the most impaired functional activities were those that involve knee flexion and extension, and weight support on the affected limb. both sociodemographic and clinical, functional factors generated by oa negatively influenced qol of elderly patients with knee oa.

Abstract: with the objective of testing the influence of photoperiod on development of lambs, twenty-six crossbred ile de france x corriedale male lambs were studied slaughtered with 38 to 40kg the lambs were slaughtered with 38 to 40kg. animals were ramdomly divided in two groups: long photoperiod (18h light/ 6h darkness) and control (12h light/ 12h darkness). food consumption was daily evaluated. weekly, lambs were weighted and blood samples collected for triiodotironine (t3), thyroxine (t4) and cortisol plasmatic levels determination. jejunal and ileal samples were collected for morphometric analyses of the intestinal epithelium. carcass characteristics were also studied. lambs submitted to the long photoperiod have greater food consumption and live weight gain when compared to control (p<0.05). no significant differences were observed on the plasmatic levels of the hormones, in the morphology of the intestinal epithelium or carcass characteristics. in conclusion, long photoperiod has a positive effect on the development of lambs, being an economically viable techinic.

Pró-Fono Revista de Atualiza??o Científica , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-56872006000200006
Abstract: background: middle and late latency auditory evoked potentials. aim: to verify the occurrence of middle and late latency auditory evoked potentials disorders in adults with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (aids). method: middle and late latency auditory evoked potentials of 8 individuals with aids, with ages ranging from 10 to 51 years, with normal hearing, or with sensoryneural hearing losses up to moderate, and normal results in the auditory brainstem response, comparing the results with the responses obtained for a control group which was composed by 25 individuals, with ages ranging from 19 to 24 years, with no hearing complaints and with normal hearing and normal results in the auditory brainstem response. results: the pa wave latency and amplitude averages in the c3/a2 and c4/a1 modalities, and the average of the p300 wave were analyzed. no significant differences were observed in the pa wave amplitude and latency averages between the groups, although a non-statistically significant increase was observed in the latency and a decrease in the amplitude of such wave for the research group in the c3/a2 modality. the latency of the p300 wave was significantly longer to the left for the research group. it was also observed a longer latency to the right, although this was not statistically significant. conclusion: adult individuals with aids do not present alterations in the middle latency auditory evoked potential and do present alterations in the cognitive potential, indicating a disorder in the cortical regions of the auditory pathway and a deficit in the cognitive processing of auditory information for this population. such findings stress the importance of a careful investigation of the auditory function of individuals with aids, thus favoring the therapeutic planning.

Alexandre,Tiago da Silva; Cordeiro,Renata Cereda; Ramos,Luiz Roberto;
Revista de Saúde Pública , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S0034-89102009005000030
Abstract: objective: to analyze whether quality of life in active, healthy elderly individuals is influenced by functional status and sociodemographic characteristics, as well as psychological parameters. methods: study conducted in a sample of 120 active elderly subjects recruited from two open universities of the third age in the cities of s?o paulo and s?o josé dos campos (southeastern brazil) between may 2005 and april 2006. quality of life was measured using the abbreviated brazilian version of the world health organization quality of live (whoqol-bref) questionnaire. sociodemographic, clinical and functional variables were measured through crossculturally validated assessments by the mini mental state examination, geriatric depression scale, functional reach, one-leg balance test, timed up and go test, six-minute walk test, human activity profile and a complementary questionnaire. simple descriptive analyses, pearson's correlation coefficient, student's t-test for non-related samples, analyses of variance, linear regression analyses and variance inflation factor were performed. the significance level for all statistical tests was set at 0.05. results: linear regression analysis showed an independent correlation without colinearity between depressive symptoms measured by the geriatric depression scale and four domains of the whoqol-bref. not having a conjugal life implied greater perception in the social domain; developing leisure activities and having an income over five minimum wages implied greater perception in the environment domain. conclusions: functional status had no influence on the quality of life variable in the analysis models in active elderly. in contrast, psychological factors, as assessed by the geriatric depression scale, and sociodemographic characteristics, such as marital status, income and leisure activities, had an impact on quality of life.

Ramos, Juliana Maria Pires;Dabbur, Renata Rufino;Gil, Daniela;
Revista da Sociedade Brasileira de Fonoaudiologia , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S1516-80342009000400012
Abstract: purpose: to compare interaural attenuation values in a group of individuals with unilateral anacusis using supra-aural earphones and insert earphones. methods: fifteen subjects with complete unilateral deafness underwent pure-tone audiometry and determination of speech detection threshold with two different transducers: tdh-39 supra-aural earphones, and er-3a insert earphone. these procedures were carried out without contralateral masking. interaural attenuation effects for the frequencies ranging from 250 to 8000 hz were obtained by subtracting the unmasked threshold of the deaf ear from the threshold obtained for the normal ear. results: interaural attenuation values were significantly greater when obtained with er-3a earphones, for all frequencies and for speech stimuli. no differences were found between genders and age ranges. conclusion: insert earphones provided greater interaural attenuation than supra-aural earphones. this greater attenuation might be very useful for clinical audiology, especially for masking purposes.
