Prediction of Reinforcement Effect by Screw on Triangular Embedment Perpendicular to the Grain with Variation of Screw Locations  [PDF]

Abstract: In this study, the reinforcement by screws for the wood perpendicular to the grain subjected to a rotational moment has been studied. For the estimation of rotational stiffness and yield moment, the reinforcement effect by the screws which varies depending on their position under the bearing plate was evaluated by taking the internal displacement distribution of the wood into account. The Finite Element Analysis (FEA) was used to investigate the internal displacement distribution of the wood. Then an appropriate function was found out to meet well with various internal displacement distributions under the bearing plate. The equations, which can estimate rotational stiffness and yield moment of the bearing performance of the wood reinforced by screws, were derived from the shear resistance mechanism between the screw and wood by considering their relative displacement distribution. Then rotational tests were carried out with the wood reinforced by the screws, setting screw thread at the various positions. Agreements between prediction and experimental results were very well. It was found that the screw reinforcement was effective, provided screw length should be longer for the wood height.
Performance Study on Axial Compression of CFRP-Strengthened Concrete Columns

Through the static load test of six CFRP reinforced concrete columns, the paper studies the CFRP reinforced concrete columns with different cross section of the influence of mechanical properties, and analyzes the specific influence of the carbon fiber cloth paste layer and column’s section type to carbon fiber cloth reinforcement effect. The results show that: Carbon fiber cloth can obviously increase the stiffness and ultimate bearing capacity of concrete columns, reduce the vertical dis-placement of column and reduce the lateral strain and the axial strain of the columns. When the paste layer of carbon fiber cloth is two, the impact is more obvious. But the increase degree is not proportional to the reinforced area; the improvement of carbon fiber cloth reinforcement to con-crete columns’ ultimate bearing capacity and stiffness is superior to the improvement of concrete square column.

Abstract: A device which converts the unwanted water into drinkable water with help of solar energy is called solar still. It is very simple device and it is also very cheap. Most important part of the solar still is “Absorber Surface”, which absorbs the solar energy for converting brackish water into drinkable water. Here, three absorber plateshave taken like Galvanized iron sheet, Copper sheet and Mild Steel sheet. It has been observed that the yield is very low upto noon but increased at after noon. For reducing the cost of solar still, wood chip has used as insulator in the solar still.

Abstract: To reinforce awareness among dentists about their role in person identification and the importance of maintaining dental records of all their patients. The article reviews basic procedures of dental identification and some cases where dental identification played a key role in eventual identification of the person. Forensic odontology is an integral part of forensic sciences. Forensic dental identifications, especially in times of mass disasters, depend mainly on the availability of ante mortem dental records. It is the social responsibility of each and every dentist to maintain dental records of their patients for the noble cause of identification in the event of mass disaster.

Abstract: :?在基本原理阐述的基础上,用梁格法分析了截面转换加固T型梁桥的力学性态,并结合具体的实例和常规的平面杆系有限元模型计算分析方法进行了对比。对比结果表明,采用梁格法分析截面转换加固T型梁桥是有效的。该处理方法可望对实践起到一定的指导作用。

Toughness increase of self compacting concrete reinforced with polypropylene short fibers

Abstract: Increases in bending tests by the addition of low volume fractions of Polypropylene (PP) Short Fibers PP. These toughness increases are similar to those attained by Fiber Reinforced Concrete (FRC) referred elsewhere as Engineered Cementitious Composites (ECC), having some ductility and strain hardening in direct tensile and flexural tests. Concretes mixtures were manufactured using natural pozzolanic blended Portland cement, volcanic crushed coarse aggregates and fine sand from Sahara desert dunes (0-1 mm) from Canary Islands quarries and sand reservoirs, respectively, besides ordinary siliceous sand (0-4 mm) and fly ash from an anthracite-coal heat generator. Se presentan en este artículo hormigones autocompactables que, mediante la adición de peque as fracciones volumétricas de fibras cortas de polipropileno, consiguen incrementos importantes de tenacidad en su comportamiento mecánico a flexión. Estos aumentos de tenacidad son semejantes a los que presentan un grupo de hormigones reforzados con fibras, denominados ECC (Engineered Cementitious Composites), que muestran también alguna ductilidad y endurecimiento por deformación en ensayos de tracción directa y flexión. Los hormigones se dosificaron empleando cemento Pórtland con Puzolana natural, áridos volcánicos de machaqueo y arena fina procedente de dunas del desierto del Sáhara (0-1 mm), de canteras y depósitos de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (Islas Canarias), respectivamente, además de arena silícea ordinaria (0-4 mm) y cenizas volantes de una central térmica de combustible antracita.

Abstract: In many developing countries the most common alternative for dwelling construction is building with earth because the material is abundant and cheap. The quality of most traditional earthen construction is very low, because it is done informally, with little or no technical assistance. In seismic areas where earthen construction is common, every time an earthquake occurs, many dwellings collapse, causing considerable economic losses and tragic injuries and deaths. The professional and academic communities in some seismic countries have not remained indifferent to this important problem. Researchers at the Catholic University of Peru (PUCP) have been investigating on the construction of earthen buildings in seismic areas for about 40 years and have obtained invaluable results. This article describes the evolution of the knowledge generated at PUCP of reinforced earth, a material composed of earth and compatible reinforcements, with which it is possible to build seismic-resistant constructions. En muchos países en vías de desarrollo la alternativa de vivienda más común es la construcción con tierra, pues el material es abundante y barato. La construcción tradicional de viviendas de tierra se realiza informalmente, sin asesoría técnica. Por ello, la calidad de estas construcciones es generalmente muy baja. En zonas sísmicas donde se construye con tierra, cada vez que ocurre un terremoto colapsan muchas construcciones de este material, causando considerables pérdidas económicas y lamentables pérdidas de vidas. Las comunidades académicas y profesionales de algunos países sísmicos no han permanecido impasibles frente a esta grave situación. En el Perú, investigadores de la Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP) han venido investigando la construcción con tierra en áreas sísmicas desde hace cerca 40 a os y han obtenido invalorables resultados. Este artículo describe la evolución del conocimiento generado en la PUCP del material tierra armada, compuesto por tierra y refuerzos compatibles, que permite lograr construcciones sismorresistentes.
