Abstract: the use of treated wastewater is being practiced in agriculture and tends to be an economical and environmental alternative for flower cultivation, especially for cut flowers, as the final product has no direct contact with the water. the objective of this research was to evaluate the use of this alternative source of irrigation water on the growth of cut sunflower genotypes under an organic system. the trial was carried out in a greenhouse at universidade federal de campina grande - pb, brazil, adopting a randomized block design in a 4 x 2 factorial with three replicates and two plants per plot, with 4 genotypes of sunflower (helianthus annuus l.) (embrapa v2000/122 - g1, sol noturno - g2, sol vermelho - g3 and debiblis crème - g4) combined with 2 irrigation treatments (municipal supply water - a1 and treated sewage wastewater - a2). the treated wastewater was significantly better for the variables plant height, stem diameter, leaf number, external and internal diameter of the capitulum , as well as number of petals. in general the best genotype was sol noturno, which stood out particularly after harvest, with the best result for durability.

Abstract: the physic nut has attracted considerable interest in recent years because of the high potential to provide oil for biofuel production and this has caused the rapid expansion of cultivated area worldwide. this research aimed to evaluate the influence of irrigation with water of different electrical conductivity (ecw) and two doses of phosphorus on the production components of physic nut during the third year of production. a randomized block design in a factorial (5x2) was adopted with four repetitions, with five levels of salinity (ecw - 0.6 control; 1.2; 1.8; 2.4 and 3.0ds m-1) of the irrigation water and two doses of p2o5 (135 and 200g plant-1 year-1), in which the water of 0.6ds m-1 refers to municipal supply water and the dose of 135g plant-1 is the recommended dose for physic nut. plants were cultivated in recipient of 200l and irrigated at intervals of three days. the number of days for inflorescence, number of clusters plant-1, grain yield and oil content of physic nut seeds were negatively affected by the increasing salinity of the irrigated water. the cultivation of physic nut irrigated with electrical conductivity of 1.3ds m-1 reduces the productivity by 10% and consequently the seed oil content. only the number of days for inflorescence was affected by phosphorus doses. a positive and significant correlation between weight of 100 seeds and oil content of seeds was observed and in the treatment with the lowest ecw the values obtained were respectively 90.26g and 36.39%.

Abstract: we describe a technique to separate male and female pupae of sand flies. this has reduced the labour to separate flies after emergence and also allows the isolation of unmated adults for behavioural and physiological studies.

Barros, Tristana Nascimento;Gomes, Erissandra;
Revista CEFAC , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S1516-18462008000300008
Abstract: purpose: to investigate the professors' behavior and habits from levels 1 to 4 of basic education before the reading and the practical of reading in classroom. methods: observational, transversal study, with the participation of 30 professors from the levels 1 to 4, in basic education, from public schools. through a questionnaire with 15 open and closed questions type, information on the habits and attitudes of the professors had been harvested front to the learning of reading. results: from this sample of 30 studied teachers, a statically significant difference of behaviors (p <0.001) was found, and this means that a favorable behavior respect to affective relations with reading in childhood, was not prevalent among the teachers. conclusion: the great majority of teachers did not develop an affective relation with reading, an important requirement to transform learning children in effective and avid young and adult readers.
Marcas identitárias masculinas e a saúde de homens jovens
Nascimento, Elaine Ferreira do;Gomes, Romeu;
Cadernos de Saúde Pública , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-311X2008000700010
Abstract: this work is mainly aimed to analyze the meaning given by young men to masculinity. by this analysis, discussions involving integral attention to them in health care field can advance. our methodology is characterized by case study under the social sciences perspective and with hermeneutic-dialectical approach involving 19 male youngsters aged 15 to 17. about the observed results, young men associated being male with playing household provider, dominating man, heterosexual and caregiver roles. this association occurs through dialectical process reflecting the subjective complexity in accepting or rejecting the identity marks. within this study conclusions, it is emphasized the public heath care need of listening young men's voice about their identity to involve them in health care prevention and promotion actions, assuring to these social agents - traditionally not seen as health care agents - to find a way and different relationship with this area.

Abstract: this study focuses on the research output in the relationship between males and health in the public health field. the objective is to critically analyze the most recurrent ideas on the specificities of maleness in the health-disease process. the method consisted of a literature review in public health, based on a qualitative research approach. male sexuality, masculinity, and reproduction and masculinity and power were the themes found in the analysis. the study concludes that further research on masculinity is needed with a focus on gender, nationality, class, age, ethnicity, and sexual orientation.
Inicia??o sexual masculina: conversas íntimas para fóruns privados
Nascimento,Elaine Ferreira do; Gomes,Romeu;
Ciência & Saúde Coletiva , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-81232009000400016
Abstract: this paper aims to analyze the male sexual initiation, identifying the way low income youth understand it. the theoretical and conceptual references were those in which sexuality reflects wider relations that involve the person itself and society. the methodological plan features a case study under the social sciences perspectives, supported by a hermeneutic and dialectical approach. it involves 19 male youngsters aged 15 to17. during young men’s conversations, it is observed that certain sources of information are valued in preference to others, on the one hand there is a range between to permit and to forbid subjects usually related to sexuality and particularly to sexual initiation. youngsters associate it with something complicated, pleasure-giving, affective and consider it a learning environment. study discoveries indicate the investments needed to supply the public health field in order to develop technologies to provide the young men sexual demands, changing them from private forums to sexual initiation to an integral health care to young men.

Abstract:

The seaweeds Chaetomorpha antennina, Gymnogongrus griffithsiae and Ulva fasciata were studied regarding tissue concentrations of total nitrogen, total phosphorus, total protein, hydrosoluble protein, total carbohydrate, chlorophyll a and total carotenoid throughout a 39-month survey in two coastal environments of Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil. One of the sites (Itapuca Stone) has high concentrations of dissolved nutrients and an intense long-term process of cultural eutrophication; the second site (Bananal Inlet) is thought to have lower concentrations of dissolved nutrients and no relevant anthropic impact. Seaweeds experienced changes in the concentrations of the substances in the thalli; however they did not show any cyclic seasonal pattern, except for pigments, with lower values in summer in both sites. The differences found for each species in each sampling at the sites were small (e.g. U. fasciata, more total nitrogen at Itapuca Stone) or absent (e.g. C. antennina, no significant differences for hydrosoluble protein in the sites). Differences in the concentrations of dissolved nutrients in the sites did not generate contrasting chemical profiles in the seaweeds. There is no evidence of nitrogen- or phosphorus-limitation in any season. It is presumable that the concentrations of dissolved nutrients at the nutrient-poorer site are sufficient to generate high concentrations of the substances in the thalli of the species
