Siqueira, Maity;Lamprecht, Regina Ritter;
DELTA: Documenta??o de Estudos em Lingüística Teórica e Aplicada , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-44502007000200004
Abstract: situated within the framework of the conceptual metaphor theory, this research focuses on the comprehension of primary metaphors, using a crosslinguistic-developmental perspective. data come from interviews with monolingual brazilian portuguese and american english native speakers at the ages of 3 to 10, along with adult native speakers. the results obtained from two tasks (verbal and non-verbal) revealed that the comprehension of primary metaphors is an ability that emerges early in life and is linked to the kind of mapping involved in each conceptual metaphor. the comprehension of primary metaphors followed three stages both for the brazilian and the american participants.

Toffoli, Melissa Bernardes,Lamprecht, Regina Ritter

Abstract: background: down syndrome, phonological awareness, writing and working memory. aim: to evaluate the phonological awareness of brazilian children with down syndrome; to analyze the relationship between the writing hypothesis and the phonological awareness scores of the participants; to compare the performance of children with down syndrome to that of children with typical development according to the phonological awareness: tool for sequential evaluation (phonatse), using the writing hypothesis as a matching criteria; to verify the correlation between the phonological awareness measurements and the phonological working memory. method: a group of eleven children aged between 7 and 14 years (average: 9y10m) was selected for the study. phonological awareness was evaluated using the phonatse. the phonological working memory was evaluated through an instrument developed by the researcher. results: all subjects presented measurable levels of phonological awareness through the phonatse. the phonological awareness scores and the writing hypothesis presented a significant positive association. the performance of children with down syndrome was significantly lower than children with typical development who presented the same writing hypothesis. measurements of phonological awareness and phonological working memory presented significant positive correlations. conclusion: the phonological awareness of brazilian children with down syndrome can be evaluated through the phonatse. syllable awareness improves with literacy, whereas phonemic awareness seems to result from written language learning. the phonological working memory influences the performance of children with down syndrome in phonological awareness tasks.

Abstract: children with cystic fibrosis are usually admitted to the hospital many times through their lives. this study aims to know the perceptions of these children towards the multiple hospital admissions, as well to identify what they realize about the treatment and the care they get. this is a descriptive study with a qualitative approach. the study subjects were seven children who suffer from cystic fibrosis, at ages between 6 and 11. the data are collected at a pediatrics unit of a general hospital, by means of a focused semi-structrured interviews, and analyzed through the comprehensive analysis. the result of this study show that children value their freedom, but it is very restricted during the time they are in the hospital, which can be softed through our listening, comprehension and attention.
A Study of Shark Stealth Behavior in the Proximity of Divers  [PDF]
Erich Ritter, Raid Amin
Open Journal of Animal Sciences (OJAS) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/ojas.2015.52025
Abstract: This study examines the approach patterns of sharks in the vicinity of human divers, focusing on the diver’s body orientation and a shark’s distance from the sea bed when approaching the diver. A standardized video method was used to record the scenario of diver(s) kneeling in the sand while being approached by sharks. This showed that sharks had a preference to move in from outside a diver’s field of vision while larger sharks stayed closer to the sea floor. This may simultaneously enhance camouflage while reducing potential escape routes for the approaching animal. This stealth behavior raises the question of how sharks may interpret humans when moving towards them.
From Mutualistic Partner to Hunted Prey?  [PDF]

Open Journal of Animal Sciences (OJAS) , 2019, DOI: 10.4236/ojas.2019.91008
Abstract: Sharks and sharksuckers maintain a mutualistic symbiotic relationship; thus, it is surprising to observe a lemon shark, Negaprion brevirostris, killing a sharksucker, Echeneis lucrates, which has been recorded during a dive with lemon sharks. Does this observation indicate that the symbiosis between the two species may shift occasionally? The awkwardness of the recorded kill, combined with its comparatively long duration, suggests this bout be a freak incident, rather than a common occurrence; thus, the mutualistic relationship needs not be questioned. What triggered the bout, however, can only be speculated. Although the caloric value of the killed sharksucker is not known, a feeding-oriented behavior can likely be rejected as the potential cause based on the teleost’s rather small size, and an irritation related issue is more likely to have triggered this bout.

Online Brazilian Journal of Nursing , 2007,
Abstract: The study concerns about the development of the attachment between the adolescent mother and her baby. Its objectives are to know the adolescent’s experience as a mother; to recognize the manifestations of attachment between mother/baby and to know the factors that facilitate and/or interfere the development of the attachment. It is a longitudinal study with a qualitative approach, realized with six adolescent mothers, between thirteen and nineteen years old, and their babies, linked to the Family Health Program (FHP) from Vila Pinto, a popular class comunity in Porto Alegre/RS. The collection of the information was realized through semi-structered interviews and participatory observations. For the analysis of the information, an analysis of the content was used, from where the following cathegories emerged: satisfaction with the maternity; bonding-attachment; familiar support and interrupted project of life. The results indicate that the familiar and the partener’s support are the bonding facilitating factors, since youngesters have this support, show an affectionate relationship with their babies, but we can not to say that others adolescents whose don’t have this support, don’t development of the attachment with your sons.
