Arquivos Brasileiros de Cardiologia , 2003,
Abstract: OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the cardiovascular findings and clinical follow-up of patients with Williams-Beuren syndrome. METHODS: We studied 20 patients (11 males, mean age at diagnosis: 5.9 years old), assessed for cardiovascular abnormalities with electrocardiography and Doppler echocardiography. Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) was used to confirm the diagnosis of the syndrome. RESULTS: Elastin gene locus microdeletion was detected in 17 patients (85%) (positive FISH), and in 3 patients deletion was not detected (negative FISH). Sixteen patients with a positive FISH (94%) had congenital cardiovascular disease (mean age at diagnosis: 2,3 years old). We observed isolated (2/16) supravalvular aortic stenosis and supravalvular aortic stenosis associated (11/16) with pulmonary artery stenosis (4/11); mitral valve prolapse (3/11); bicuspid aortic valve (3/11); aortic coarctation (2/11), thickened pulmonary valve (2/11); pulmonary valvular stenosis (1/11); supravalvular pulmonary stenosis (1/11); valvular aortic stenosis (1/11); fixed subaortic stenosis (1/11); pulmonary artery stenosis (2/16) associated with pulmonary valvar stenosis (1/2) and with mitral valve prolapse (1/2); and isolated mitral valve prolapse (1/16). Four patients with severe supravalvular aortic stenosis underwent surgery (mean age: 5.7 years old), and 2 patients had normal pressure gradients (mean follow-up: 8.4 years). CONCLUSION: A detailed cardiac evaluation must be performed in all patients with Williams-Beuren syndrome due to the high frequency of cardiovascular abnormalities.

INQUISITORIALIDADE NO PROCESSO JUDICIAL BRASILEIRO CONTEMPOR NEO

Revista da SJRJ , 2010,
Abstract: O artigo trata de representa es de magistrados brasileiros sobre o princípio do livre convencimento do juiz e as articula es desta categoria com poderes probatórios conferidos aos julgadores no processo judicial brasileiro.

Asbtract This research investigates and interprets the construction of educational strategies by afrodescendents implemented by several afro organizations in Porto Alegre, RS, from the end of the XIX century, over the First Republic, the New State and the respective re-democratizing processes until the year 2002. Over this period, the afro organizations had differentconfigurations according to their contexts, their forms of composition and their claims arise from the conditions or from their lack, coming from a broader society. Such organizations, either ofreligious nature, mutual aid, cultural or, under the current perspective, of non-governmental organizations, comprise a common feature that is translated into the preservation of the identity and into the claims for the establishment of fair survival conditions for the afro-descendents. Due to the absence of documentation of the historical-educational trajectory of the afro population in the official means of divulgation, statistics and in the traditional historiography, this investigation aims

Abstract: exams of portuguese language and writing in entrance examinations are instruments aiming at the selection of the candidates who are fit to start undergraduate studies. it is expected that they show the textual and linguistic knowledge that allow them to interpret and produce texts in the academic field. but do these texts elicit the necessary knowledge for the admission of the best candidates to undergraduate courses? with the purpose of answering this question we have analyzed the questions asked in the entrance examinations of ufmg in the last 10 years. we have found that, between the years 2000 and 2009, the competence is assessed through skills such as locating explicit information, deducing implicit information, recognizing new meanings of words, within a given text. we have also verified the presence of several text genres from press media which favor critical reflection, and the application of more elaborated forms of reasoning. we have concluded that these tests fulfill their intended goal.

Abstract: this article describes the ensinasus project, the research developed within the project, and the various dimensions and implications that will lead to understanding the experiences that have been taking place in courses in the field of health care as regards their processes of change. our aim is to share the experience of integrating researchers, coming from different institutional and professional backgrounds, in order to build a common project, based on their experience. the purpose of this project was to innovate and to build a new grammar so as to discuss and understand pedagogical processes and their interface with health and work, and so produce health care which is different in its concept of health assistance, thus producing a user-centred care, from a dialogical and politically-ethical viewpoint. we believe that teaching and extension practices open up an 'action-thought-knowledge' overall concept, promoting new concepts and meanings for health, life, knowledge and education. we also believe that explanations from pedagogical praxis may be seen as a possibility of historically building citizenship. we found that some mechanisms of legitimation and modes of articulation, exchange and solidarity are key to the interaction of diversity. the team was composed of representation networks from different political and cultural environments.
