The goal of this study is to describe a methodology for the analysis of D-sorbitol using benzyl alcohol as derivatizing agent and liquid chromatography equipped with a diode-array detector (HPLC-DAD). The study was performed at the University of São Paulo State (UNESP), Ilha Solteira Campus, Brazil. The axillary buds of fruit trees were collected from the UNESP Teaching and Research Farm. Benzyl alcohol was used as derivatizing agent to extract D-sorbitol from the buds. Next, the D-sorbitol underwent solid phase extraction (SPE) using C18 cartridges and was then analyzed by liquid chromatography (HPLC-DAD). The HPLC-DAD derivatization method proposed showed excellent chromatography resolution and high accuracy in the separation of D-sorbitol (derivatized) for the axillary buds of avocado, black mulberry, Japanese pear and peach and also enabled eliminating the use of hazardous derivatizing agents.

Abstract: among the many activities that family healthcare doctors and nurses carry out, the present study had the aims of characterizing the programmed, preventive and interventional actions relating to adolescents and analyzing professionals' perceptions regarding the care practices for this age group, through quantitative-qualitative analysis. the results showed that nurses carry out programmed actions such as prenatal appointments, uterine cancer prevention and family planning more often than doctors do. doctors state that their actions are accomplished during their appointments. both nurses and doctors say that they provide guidance regarding pregnancy prevention, std/aids and condom use. almost all nurses and just over 50% of doctors carry out interventional actions. there is a consensus regarding the need to implement a systematized service and for the municipality to capacitate all professionals, restructure the material and human resources, introduce other professionals and integrate the actions with services other than healthcare.

Abstract: background: contact dermatitis to cosmetics is a common dermatosis, especially in adults and professionals who handle them. objective: the objective of this study was to evaluate the frequency of sensitization to cosmetics' components in patients with suspected allergic contact dermatitis and to identify the main sensitizers related to occupational contact dermatitis. methods: during the period of january 2008 to june 2010, all the patients with a presumptive diagnosis of allergic contact dermatitis to cosmetics were selected. the patients were submitted to the patch tests of cosmetics series, composed by ten substances. results: among the 147 patients studied sensitization to cosmetics components occurred in 31,29% of the cases, 14 of those (19,18%) equally corresponding to bht and triethanolamine substances, 13 (17,81%) to ammonium thioglycolate, 09 to sorbic acid (12,33%), 08 to tosilamida (10,95%), 06 to germall (8,22%). the other elements tested showed indices of 5% or less. a higher frequency of contact dermatitis to cosmetics was observed in women and the age most affected was concordant with the age range of greatest professional activity of the population. conclusion: allergic contact dermatitis was more frequently associated with triethanolamine, bht and ammonium thioglycolate, and the relation with occupational contact dermatitis was discreet.

Ferrari, Rosangela Aparecida Pimenta;Thomson, Zuleika;Melchior, Regina;
Cadernos de Saúde Pública , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-311X2006001100024
Abstract: this descriptive qualitative study was conducted in basic healthcare units to analyze the perceptions of physicians and nurses from family health teams concerning healthcare for adolescents, using content analysis with an emphasis on thematic analysis. the discourse of these health professionals showed that care exists for adolescents in the family health service, but that: it is not systematized because of other priorities; adolescents fail to use the service; the health professionals feel unprepared to draw adolescents to the service and treat them; and in order to implement a healthcare program for adolescents in the family health strategy it would be necessary to reorganize the service to train the existing team members and hire other professionals. thus, the interviewees value differentiated care for adolescents, and even while recognizing their limitations and reporting not having been trained, they conduct joint actions with other areas beyond health, demonstrating that they transcend the limits of the health service and seek new ways of treating adolescents holistically.
