Orthogonal cutting forces in juvenile and mature Pinus taeda wood
Gon?alves, Raquel;Néri, Ant?nio Carlos;
Scientia Agricola , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-90162005000400002
Abstract: the distinct characteristics of juvenile and mature woods, which are observed particularly in softwoods, have an influence on processing due to their different mechanical resistance properties in relation to cutting operations. in the past, when most of the wood used industrially came from adult trees of natural forests, little importance was given to a distinction between different zones of the tree stem. at present, however, as the supply of mature trees with large diameters from native forests is constantly decreasing, the use of short-cycle trees has become a common practice, through the adoption of species that grow relatively fast, such as pines and eucalyptus. in both softwoods and hardwoods, juvenile wood cells are generally smaller and thinner than in mature wood, and this reflects on their density and mechanical resistance, which should have an effect on the cutting forces developed during processing. the main object of this research was to evaluate orthogonal cutting forces in juvenile and mature pinus taeda woods. cutting force magnitude differences were observed for those two regions of the trunk, with parallel cutting forces being 33.4% higher, on average, at the mature wood region for 90-0 cutting, and 12% higher for 90-90 cutting. this result is consistent with the distinct anatomical structures of the material, since the forces developed during machining depend directly upon its properties.
Adolescentes portadores de deficiência visual: percep??es sobre sexualidade
Moura, Giovana Raquel de;Pedro, Eva Néri Rubim;
Revista Latino-Americana de Enfermagem , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-11692006000200011
Abstract: this exploratory-descriptive study aimed to reveal perceptions of visually impaired teenagers on their sexuality. data was collected from may to june 2004 by means of semistructured interviews, carried out with eight visually impaired teenagers studying at an institution in porto alegre, brazil. the collected information was analyzed through content analysis according to bardin. two main categories emerged: sexuality and socio-behavioral changes. the research participants lack information on various sexuality-related issues, such as: knowledge on physiology, anatomy, affection and preventive care. health professionals, especially nurses, need to be prepared to deal with these issues and to contribute to the development of a healthy sexuality of these individuals.
For?as de corte ortogonal 90-90 em três espécies de madeira de eucalipto do estado de S?o Paulo

Revista Brasileira de Engenharia Agrícola e Ambiental , 2000, DOI: 10.1590/S1415-43662000000200024
Abstract: orthogonal cutting force is a fundamental parameter to design cutting tools and to determine to the required power necessary to operate a sawmill. this force varies within different species, and as a function of the wood condition (density, moisture content, fiber orientation), tool shape (sharpness angle, clearance angle, blade thickness and width) as well as of the cutting equipment (rake angle, forward velocity, cutting speed, chip thickness and width). the 90-90 cutting is extremely important because it occurs during end-grain cutting. the reforestation species, in particular the eucalyptus, are acquiring increasing importance in the brazilian domestic and export timber market. this paper reports the results of 90-90 orthogonal cutting tests, conducted using specimens from three species of eucalyptus: citriodora, saligna and grandis. the results show the influence of the machining parameters in the cutting forces and indicate its relevance in order to optimize the wood machining process.
Aprendizagem de sinais vitais utilizando objetos educacionais digitais: opini?o de estudantes de enfermagem
Cogo, Ana Luísa Petersen;Silveira, Denise Tolfo;Pedro, Eva Néri Rubim;Tanaka, Raquel Yurika;Catalan, Vanessa Menezes;
Revista Gaúcha de Enfermagem , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S1983-14472010000300005
Abstract: the purpose of this study was to know undergraduated nursing students' opinions about the pedagogical practice in vital signs founded on the problem-based learning presented in the form of digital educational objects. ten individuals participated in the research, which used the methodology of a qualitative case study. data were obtained by means of semi-structured interviews analyzed through thematic analysis. three final categories were identified: computer-based learning, group work organization, and vital sign learning project evaluation. the activity was a new experience for the students, who considered it as positive because it made easy both the access to contents and the communication between classmates. however, the students missed the physical presence of the professor. the group work was conducted, most of the time, in a collaborative way. offering computer-mediated activities associated to the problem-based learning methodology to nursing students has proven to be important.

Quantitative Biology , 2012,
Abstract: Background: Cadmium chloride is an environmental toxic that affects the male reproductive system. This study was directed 1) to evaluate whether long-term oral exposures to low doses of Cd in rats causes morphological changes, 2) the immunohistochemical TJ and AJ protein expression; and 3) to evidence that zinc exposure can modify Cd effects. Methods: Testis of normal rats and rats that have received Cd or Cd+Zn in drinking water during 12 months did not show any morphological change. Immunohistochemistry was used to identify BTB integrity, claudin-1, ZO-1, N-Cadherin and {\beta}-catenin were detected by immunohistochemistry and IOD were measure. Results: No immunoexpression changes of claudin-1 and ZO-1 were observed. Cd + Zn group showed a significant increase of IOD of N-Cadherin, and a significant decrease of {\beta}-catenin and transferrin immunoexpression was observed. Conclusions: Ours findings showed that the intake of low oral doses of cadmium chloride over a long time period of time did not cause morphological variation on rat testis. Neither alteration on BTB was found. Zinc chloride was able to strengthen TJ and AJ, and decrease transferrin. Key words: Testis prostate, cadmium, zinc, TJ, AJ, immunohistochemistry

Néri, Regina;
ágora: Estudos em Teoria Psicanalítica , 2003, DOI: 10.1590/S1516-14982003000100002
Abstract: anti-oedipus / psychoanalysis: a current debate. trying to insert the psychoanalytical discourse into the debate on the new forms of subjectivity, this paper develops an articulation between psychoanalysis and the emerging speech production in these days in order to achieve interconnection between freud?s driving forces and the formulation of deleuze?s and guattari?s desire machines.
Agentes de software: delegando decis?es a programas
Néri, Edmilson Lucena;
RAE eletr?nica , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S1676-56482005000100003
Abstract: information technology has been investigated by academics at brazilian business schools for a long time. some themes related to this issue have not been discussed in brazilian academy as much as they have in academies abroad. this text is concerned about presenting the concept of software agents and their application in business, mainly in commerce. throughout the text, it will be shown why software agents have made so much success within electronic trade. from product or service searches through making better decisions, software agents are a necessary reading for anyone who is trying to understand the benefits, challenges and difficulties that business is facing with communication media and information systems. some publications from international journals, books and proceedings of academic meetings are reviewed as well as some brazilian works. the purpose of this paper is to stimulate a greater discussion about software agents in brazilian business schools and companies.
