Economic Viability of Semi-Confined and Confined Milk Production Systems in Free-Stall and Compost Barn  [PDF]
Raquel Breitenbach
Food and Nutrition Sciences (FNS) , 2018, DOI: 10.4236/fns.2018.95046
Abstract: The objective of this research was to survey the productivity, costs, agricultural income and economic viability of Semi-Confined and confined milk production systems in Free-Stall and Compost Barn in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. In order to perform the research, four milk production units were selected in each of the three systems studied. Compared to the others, the Semi-Confined system had greater return of capital invested per year, as well as higher agricultural income per animal and per area, while the confined system in Compost Barn had higher farm incomes per man work unit and total farm incomes due to greater productive scale of properties. The Free-Stall system had the worst economic results. It was not possible to define an ideal system for the state, since the specificities of each property should be analyzed for choosing the system, especially the availability of the factors of production land, capital and labor.
The changes on intimate partner violence against women in the health system in Portugal  [PDF]
Raquel Cardoso, José Ornelas
Health (Health) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/health.2013.57A4010
Abstract:

In Portugal, over the last 20 years, we have seen great strides in addressing intimate partner violence against women by their male partners. Measuring and understanding progress, and achieving sustainable systems change is a major challenge and to achieve this aim we need to identify events, persons and settings that contribute for the critical factors that create long term transformations in the systems and the creation of new resources [1]. Since the healthcare system is one of the main actors of intervention with survivors, the goal of this project was to interview key stakeholders from the healthcare system in order to understand the main changes they perceive have happened over the past two decades. Based on interviews with key stakeholders, our study explores the evidences of the changes that occurred in the healthcare system, the intersections with other systems and their visions for the future.

Epigenetics and Depression: A Rabbit Hole of Discovery  [PDF]
Raquel Pace, Renald Blundell
Open Journal of Genetics (OJGen) , 2018, DOI: 10.4236/ojgen.2018.83007
Abstract: “After this, there is no turning back. You take the blue pill—the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill—you stay in Wonderland, and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes. Remember: all I’m offering is the truth.” Epigenetics is a bit like the red pillthe more it is researched the further down the rabbit hole we are goingthe realisation that my choices today as my parents’ and grandparents’ choices yesterday influence who I am now and who I am going to be tomorrow. Through the study of gene influencers, scientists are discovering that it is not only the DNA that makes us but which portion of is selected for use that tells us who we are. In the field of depression, epigenetics is still in its infancy, nonetheless significant connections have been uncovered. This paper gives a brief overview on epigenetics and the different mechanisms correlated with it. It also discusses factors affecting an individual’s epigenetic patterns and the effect of epigenetics itself. It specifically delves into the epigenetic effects on psychiatry, mainly depression, depressive symptoms and antidepressant treatments and the mediation of mechanism of action of the epigenetic modifications involved.
Game Theory Applications in a Water Distribution Problem  [PDF]
Ardeshir Ahmadi, Raquel Salazar Moreno
Journal of Water Resource and Protection (JWARP) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/jwarp.2013.51011
Abstract:

A water distribution problem in the Mexican Valley is modeled first as a three-person noncooperative game. Each player has a five-dimensional strategy vector, the strategy sets are defined by 15 linear constraints, and the three payoff functions are also linear. A nonlinear optimization problem is first formulated to obtain the Nash equilibrium based on the Kuhn-Tucker conditions, and then, duality theorem is used to develop a computational procedure. The problem can also be considered as a conflict between the three players. The non-symmetric Nash bargaining solution is suggested to find the solution. Multiobjective programming is an alternative solution concept, when the water supply of the three players are the objectives, and the water authority is considered to be the decision maker. The optimal water distribution strategies are determined by using these solution concepts and methods.

La democracia en el filo de la navaja: límites y posibilidades para la implementación de una agenda de reforma urbana en Brasil
ROLNIK,RAQUEL;
EURE (Santiago) , 2009, DOI: 10.4067/S0250-71612009000100001
Abstract: in brazil the 1990s constituted years of institutional achievements in the fields of housing and urban rights, given the incorporation of the principles of the social function of cities and property, the recognition of tenure rights for slum dwellers and the direct participation of citizens in the decision making process of urban policies, within the 1988 constitution. these proposals have become the pillars of the urban reform agenda which has penetrated the federal government apparatus since the creation of the ministry of cities under lula's administration. the article evaluates the limits and possibilities for the implementation of this agenda through the analysis of two policies proposed by the ministry: the national council of cities and the campaign for participatory master plans. the approach is based on the organization of the brazilian state in terms of urban development, the relationship with the political system and the characteristics of brazilian democracy.

Abstract: this paper discusses the processes of socialization of young black and poor boys in the city of s?o paulo, questioning how certain meanings and experiences of masculinity are constructed and reworked in their lives. from empirical research conducted between 2007 and 2008, we base our paper on the idea that masculinity is an experience that penetrates the trajectory of individuals, never finished and marked by setbacks.
Transporte de especímenes para diagnóstico
Terragno,Raquel;
Acta bioqu?-mica cl?-nica latinoamericana , 2005,
Abstract: when diagnostic specimens, including infectious substances, from human beings are shipped to a distant laboratory, compliance with safety regulations is required. in addition, the integrity of the sample has to be preserved to ensure acute analysis by the receiver laboratory. it must be pointed out that these samples must be packaged and shipped in such a way that the contents will not leak and will arrive in good conditions. infectious substances are classified as dangerous goods under internationally recognised legislation based on the united nations recommendations on the transport of dangerous goods. besides, each country has their proper regulations. in consequence, the shipping of these specimens is subject to specific requirements governing the packaging, documentation, labelling and handling. the importance of developing a working relationship between the sender, the carrier and the receiver must be stressed in order to provide for the safe and expeditious transport of the materials.

Pinto,Raquel;
Gayana. Botánica , 2007, DOI: 10.4067/S0717-66432007000100010
Abstract: this study shows the localization, distribution and conservation status of e. iquiquensis along the northernmost coast of chile. living populations of e. iquiquensis are present only in five of the ten fog ecosystems registered, between 18o 38's - 70o 20'w and 21o 23's - 70o 03'w, among 600 and 1000 m altitude. we describe demographic, phenological and morphological aspects. no more than 20 individuals are still alive in each locality, with density of less than 1 ind/ha. exception to that occur in chipana (21o15's) that correspond to the southernmost study area with 3.000 cacti estimate and 5 ind/ha. e. iquiquensis present a high mortality in northern chile as in camaraca (93%), punta gruesa (45%), patache (42%) and chipana (66%). the background here exposed are enough to comfirm this species as endangered, where the northernmost population at camaraca and pta. madrid are in critically endangered and at junin, iquique and pabellon de pica no alive individual were registered
SERVICIOS: LAS NUEVAS ARMAS DEL MERCADEO
PUENTE,RAQUEL;
Estudios Gerenciales , 2000,
Kritsch, Raquel;
Estudos Históricos (Rio de Janeiro) , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-21862010000200003
Abstract: the aim of this article is to discuss the contribution of the late ecclesiastical medieval thought for the construction of the concept of sovereignty. like the modern state, this concept has a long genesis: it is part of a process of legal and political transformation, which provided a new mapping of power (relations) and loyalties in europe. the building of this new system of power has the creation of a new legal order as its counter part. such a new order redefines the bonds of command and obedience, constitutes political units as areas of exclusive jurisdicti on and esta blishes among the se units relations of equality: none of them understands it self as subordinate to another. all the se questions can be understood as disputes over jurisdiction: who judges and punishes civil crimes or violations of religious rules? the powers to legislate, to chan ge the law, to decide as the final instance and to control the use of the force constitute what the modern authors named sovereignty. the objective of this paper is to show the contribution of the so called lawyers popes of the thirteenth century to the development of some key elements of the notion of sovereignty.
