Comportamentos de risco e vulnerabilidade entre estudantes de Educa??o Física
Palma, Alexandre;Abreu, Raquel Azeredo;Cunha, Cristina de Almeida;
Revista Brasileira de Epidemiologia , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S1415-790X2007000100013
Abstract: the aim of this study was to identify health-related behaviors of physical education students. therefore, we surveyed 448 students of both genders. the instrument had questions about the practice of regular exercise, the use of condoms during sexual intercourse, the use of both legal and illegal drugs, stress on the job, and hours of sleep. the main results are as follows: (a) the rate of physical inactivity is low in comparison with the general rates in the population; (b) the average values of physical exertion is classified as "somewhat intense" on the borg scale; (c) 39.4% of the participants reported job-related pain; (d) 58.7% did not use condoms during sexual intercourse regularly; (e) alcohol was the most frequently consumed drug; cigarettes and marijuana are also commonly used; and (f) 19.2 % of respondents admitted using or having already used anabolic steroids. one concludes, then, that physical education undergraduates, although they are students of a health-related area, adopt behaviors that do not necessarily suit a healthy lifestyle.

Risk Communication and External Emergency Plan in Angra dos Reis, Brazil  [PDF]
Raquel Dalledone Siqueira da Cunha, Delvonei Alves de Andrade
World Journal of Nuclear Science and Technology (WJNST) , 2016, DOI: 10.4236/wjnst.2016.64027
Abstract: The presence of a potentially hazardous facility in a community demands several safety procedures. Bringing risk communication among those actions may help the population that lives near the facility feel more confident and have the required knowledge on how to behave in an emergency situation. A research performed in Angra dos Reis, RJ, Brazil, where a nuclear power plant is located, shows that there is a lack of information and awareness about the emergency plan.
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome and the Role of Metformin in Ovulation Induction  [PDF]
Fabiana Fraga, Gabriel Azeredo César Salgado Romeiro, Larissa Bianca Paiva Cunha de Sá, Alberto Krayyem Arbex
Health (Health) , 2018, DOI: 10.4236/health.2018.105045
Abstract: The Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is frequently associated with comorbidities such as obesity, reduced glucose tolerance, hypertension, macrovascular disease and dyslipidemia. The Metabolic syndrome occurs in 30% of women with PCOS. Metformin has increasingly been used in this therapy due to its effects in reducing insulin resistance. Treatment of PCOS aims to reduce the symptoms of hyperandrogenism, regularize the menstrual cycle, reduce metabolic abnormalities, and lower the risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus and of cardiovascular disease. Additionally it is important to prevent hyperplasia and endometrial cancer, and to offer contraception to those who do not wish pregnancy, and to help to induce ovulation to those who do. The effectiveness of metformin in this treatment is assessed in the light of the current best evidence.

Abstract: in accordance with the colour, the honey samples were divided in groups, stored in different conditions and analized according to the rules adopted by the instituto adolfo lutz, laboratório nacional de referência animal e official analytical chemists. the samples were packed in recipients of glass and polypropilene and they were stored at room temperature . a group of samples were stored at room luminosity while the other group was stored at room without natural light. chemical analyses for moisture, ph, acidity, colour, reducing sugars and non-reducing sugars, hydroxymethylfurfural (hmf) and the determinations for the index of lugol, lund, fiehe and diastase were made for one year of storage. the results obtained show that the samples analyzed maintened their characteristics among the acceptable standards and that the producers have to be orientated how to use the techniques of packing and storing their honey samples for assuring the quality of their products.

Abstract: a new method for determination of potassium in honey samples of different colors was developed as an alternative method for determination of this metal. analysis of genuine honeys attested by the qualities and quantities tests officially adopted in brazil, showed that the concentration of potassium ranged from 181 to 315 mg/kg for light honeys, from 393 to 570 mg/kg for medium honeys and from 791 to 915 mg/kg for dark honeys. recoveries making use of spikes of potassium added to the honey samples and to the deionized distilled water showed results close by hundred percent at ph £ 2,0 under temperature bellow 20°c.

Insights into the Role of Extracellular Polysaccharides in Burkholderia Adaptation to Different Environments
Raquel Cunha,Leonilde M. Moreira
Frontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology , 2011, DOI: 10.3389/fcimb.2011.00016
Abstract: The genus Burkholderia comprises more than 60 species able to adapt to a wide range of environments such as soil and water, and also colonize and infect plants and animals. They have large genomes with multiple replicons and high gene number, allowing these bacteria to thrive in very different niches. Among the properties of bacteria from the genus Burkholderia is the ability to produce several types of exopolysaccharides (EPSs). The most common one, cepacian, is produced by the majority of the strains examined irrespective of whether or not they belong to the Burkholderia cepacia complex (Bcc). Cepacian biosynthesis proceeds by a Wzy-dependent mechanism, and some of the B. cepacia exopolysaccharide (Bce) proteins have been functionally characterized. In vitro studies showed that cepacian protects bacterial cells challenged with external stresses. Regarding virulence, bacterial cells with the ability to produce EPS are more virulent in several animal models of infection than their isogenic non-producing mutants. Although the production of EPS within the lungs of cystic fibrosis (CF) patients has not been demonstrated, the in vitro assessment of the mucoid phenotype in serial Bcc isolates from CF patients colonized for several years showed that mucoid to non-mucoid transitions are relatively frequent. This morphotype variation can be induced under laboratory conditions by exposing cells to stress such as high antibiotic concentration. Clonal isolates where mucoid to non-mucoid transition had occurred showed that during lung infection, genomic rearrangements, and mutations had taken place. Other phenotypic changes include variations in motility, chemotaxis, biofilm formation, bacterial survival rate under nutrient starvation and virulence. In this review, we summarize major findings related to EPS biosynthesis by Burkholderia and the implications in broader regulatory mechanisms important for cell adaptation to the different niches colonized by these bacteria.

Abstract: A column packed with 5-(4-dimethylaminobenzylidene)rhodanine adsorbed on silica gel was used for the preconcentration of Cd, Ni and Zn at different spiked solutions prior to their determination by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry. This column allowed recoveries over than 98% for the above elements and accurate analyses of coastal sea-water certified reference material were also achieved.
