Filipe Bezerra Macedo, Jucier Gon?alves Júnior, Fabiana Gouveia Guimar?es, Raphael Cisne Tomaz, Débora Valentim Monte Alto, Paula Pessoa Pinheiro, Jácia Maria Neves Coelho
Health (Health) , 2017, DOI: 10.4236/health.2017.97078
Abstract:
Background: Among hemoglobinopathies, the most prevalent in our population are hemoglobins S and C, which are capable of producing disease when homozygous. In cases of double heterozygotes with sickle hemoglobin C (SC), the disease is less expressive in its clinical condition and rarer. Case report: Patient has a previous hospitalization with pain in the joints in knee and hip and several febrile peaks. Upon physical examination, the patient had difficulty in walking, without edema, pedal and tibial posterior pulses present, with no signs of compartment syndrome. Complementary exams revealed anemia, leukocytosis and lymphopenia. The hemoglobin electrophoresis showed the SC Hemoglobinopathy. The treatment with antibiotic therapy according to the protocol (Oxacillin and Ceftriaxone) was restarted and submitted to joint drainage in affected limb. Conclusion: Osteomyelitis and septic arthritis in patients in the pediatric age group should be considered as serious infections that deserve hospitalization and more expressive treatment.

The routing process, so important into the tourist practices, has not been deep analyzed in by the scholars, what results in a low advancement on the conceptual discussion on this topic. Aiming to re-think the itinerary routes and the routing process', this paper proposes a literature review on the treatment given to this subject taking into account the historical presence of the Book Guides and travel reports as antecedents of Itinerary tours designed from the modernity on. The methodology is based on the Complexity Paradigm as proposed by Edgar Morin, what allow us to consider the relation between tourism theories and practices, taking the routing among them due to the new behaviors of the travelers on the postmodern context.

Cross-Correlation of Station-to-Station Free Surface Elevation Time Series for Breaking Water Waves  [PDF]
Raphael Mukaro
Applied Mathematics (AM) , 2018, DOI: 10.4236/am.2018.92010
Abstract:
Free surface elevation time series of breaking water waves were measured in a laboratory flume. This was done in order to analyze changes in wave characteristics as the waves propagated from deep water to the shore. A pair of parallel- wire capacitive wave gages was used to simultaneously measure free surface elevations at different positions along the flume. One gage was kept fixed near the wave generator to provide a reference while the other was moved in steps of 0.1 m in the vicinity of the break point. Data from these two wave gages measured at the same time constitute station-to-station free surface elevation time series. Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) based cross-correlation techniques were employed to determine the time lag between each pair of the time series. The time lag was used to compute the phase shift between the reference wave gage and that at various points along the flume. Phase differences between two points spaced 0.1 m apart were used to calculate local mean wave phase velocity for a point that lies in the middle. Results show that moving from deep water to shallow water, the measured mean phase velocity decreases almost linearly from about 1.75 m/s to about 1.50 m/s at the break point. Just after the break point, wave phase velocity abruptly increases to a maximum value of 1.87 m/s observed at a position 30 cm downstream of the break point. Thereafter, the phase velocity decreases, reaching a minimum of about 1.30 m/s.
Deleuze e a quest?o da literalidade: uma via alternativa
Tadeu, Tomaz;
Educa??o & Sociedade , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-73302005000400014
Abstract: this paper discusses some of the issues fran?ois zourabichvili raised in his "deleuze and the question of literality", also in this collection. its arguments are: 1) as zourabichvili presents it, the notion of literality, does not account for the metaphoric relationships he intends to explain; 2) metaphor and literality are not commensurate since the former, as a linguistic operation, presupposes a semantic equivalence, and the latter, as a material operation, presupposes a pragmatic equivalence; c) deleuze and guattari give us a much more simple and direct view of literality than that proposed by zourabichvili.
Será fungo?
Tomaz,Diana;
Revista Portuguesa de Clínica Geral , 2011,
Abstract: superficial mycoses are believed to affect 20% to 25% of the world?s population and its incidence continues to increase. they are mainly caused by dermatophytes, which are fungi that require keratin for their growth. skin lesions produced by these fungi are named dermatomycosis, dermatophytosis, ringworm or tinea. in family medicine, the clinician often has to deal with questions such as: ?dr., some weird spots have appeared in my skin, is it a fungus??. frequently it is difficult to decide whether it is appropriate to initiate systemic therapy, particularly in higher risk patients, such as the polimedicated, the immunodepressed, the diabetics and the children. this article intends to review dermatophyte infections, focusing especially on their therapeutic management. tinea is generally classified according to its anatomic location: tinea capitis is located on the scalp, tinea pedis on the feet, tinea corporis on the body, tinea cruris on the groin, and tinea unguium on the nails. a thorough clinical examination is the primary and most important step to diagnose a dermatophyte infection. yet, it can be established using potassium hydroxide microscopy, fungal culture, wood?s lamp examination or histologic examination. samples should be taken for microscopy and culture in severe or extensive skin fungal infections, when oral treatment is being considered, when skin infections are refractory to initial treatment, or when the diagnosis is uncertain. although topical treatment is enough in the majority of dermatomycosis, oral antifungals are recommended when considering tinea capitis, tinea barbae and tinea unguium. cure rates are higher and treatment courses are shorter with topical allylamines than with azoles. terbinafine, itraconazole and fluconazole formulations are the most commonly used antifungals in systemic therapy.
SCIENTOMETRIC ASSESSMENT OF PUBLISHING PATTERNS AND PERFORMANCE INDICATORS IN AGRICULTURE IN THE JCEA MEMBER COUNTRIES

Journal of Central European Agriculture , 2010,
Abstract: The study assessed selected characteristics of documents published in national journals and other publications in the countries which participate on the editorial board of an international journal JCEA (Journal of Central European Agriculture). Bibliographic citations from the CAB Abstracts database were employed. Search syntax along with some cataloging characteristics of the database was addressed. In total more than 89.000 agriculture-related documents were identified in the period 2000-2008 with journal articles predominating, followed by proceedings (conference papers). The two document types can overlap. English plays a role of the principal language, accounting for more than half of all records (48.000). Poland is the major contributor of documents, being by far the largest country. Croatian publications show the highest level of international participation in domestic publications, whereas the Slovenian authors shows the highest level of publishing in non-domestic publications. Altogether some 378 different agricultural and related life- and environmental sciences journals have been active in the region in this period. The results can serve as an indicator of regional publishing activities and behavior of authors.
VRML - A new tool in biomedical education
Tomaz Amon
Educational Technology & Society , 1999,
Abstract: VRML (Virtual Reality Modelling Language) represents a fully interactive multimedia learning environment in the virtual 3D space. It has a unique advantage that its files are about 100x smaller in size than the corresponding video clips. This software is free, platform independent and can be observed with a web browser. By applying this technology many educational projects do not need to be distributed on CD ROMs anymore. Because of their small file size (typically about 3 MB) they can be downloaded from the web. We use VRML to show the structures and functions of biological systems for the educational purposes in the secondary and high schools. Such three-dimensional worlds allow the user to travel in their virtual space, learning the principles of biological systems in a fast, effective and pleasant way. Therefore we believe that this technique will play in future a role in biological publications as important as today are the illustrations added to text. Many of our creations can be observed on our web page http://verbena.fe.uni-lj.si/~tomaz/VRML/
