Abstract: On the world scene, the energy requirements are mainly based on fossil fuels, however, these compounds reserves are finite and their exploitation has caused serious environmental problems. As a consequence, the demand for alternative renewable sources has been intensified in substitution the rising demand for energy and raw materials. The biomass is emerging as one of the few sources that have potential to meet these challenges of sustainability, as is currently the largest energy resource in the world, and only carbon-rich material available on the planet, apart from fossils. Form, the cashew crop has great potential for technological development of alternative sources of energy, from its industrial waste processing cashew adding value to the product. In this sense, this paper aims to study the characterization of the cashew apple bagasse and to verify (by acid prehydrolysis) the potential of this material for ethanol production. Initially it was carried out physicochemical characterization of cashew bagasse used (pH, moisture content, soluble solids, sugars, cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin). Following it was carried prehydrolysis at 105℃ for 1h to obtain fermentable sugars. Analyses of the samples were carried out on HPLC the results showed the saccharification of biomass with glucose (1537.49 mg/L), xylose (3823.22 mg/L) and arabinose (7131.11 mg/L) as well as the capacity of the biomass for ethanol production.

Journal of Modern Physics (JMP) , 2016, DOI: 10.4236/jmp.2016.713148
Abstract: The interaction between an electron with a three-dimensional domain wall was investigated using the Born’s expansion of the S scattering matrix. We obtain an influence of the scattering of the electron with the ferromagnetic domain wall in the spin wave function of the electron with the aim to generate the knowledge about the state of the electron spin after the scattering. It relates to the recent problem of generation of the spin polarized electric current. We also obtain the contribution of the electron-wall domain interaction on the electric conductivity \"\", through the wall domain, where we have obtained a peak of resonance in the conductivity for one value of \"\" .

Abstract: pirarucu (arapaima gigas) has been of the most important natural fishing resources of the amazon region. due to its economic importance, and the necessity to preserve the species hand, field research concerning the habits and behavior of the pirarucu has been increasing for the last 20 years. the aim of this paper is to present a mathematical model for the pirarucu population dynamics considering the species peculiarities, particularly the male parental care over the offspring. the solution of the dynamical systems indicates three possible equilibrium points for the population. the first corresponds to extinction; the third corresponds to a stable population close to the environmental carrying capacity. the second corresponds to an unstable equilibrium located between extinction and full use of the carrying capacity. it is shown that lack of males’ parental care closes the gap between the point corresponding to the unstable equilibrium and the point of stable non-trivial equilibrium. if guarding failure reaches a critical point the two points coincide and the population tends irreversibly to extinction. if some event tends to destabilize the population equilibrium, as for instance inadequate parental care, the model responds in such a way as to restore the trajectory towards the stable equilibrium point avoiding the route to extinction. the parameters introduced to solve the system of equations are partially derived from limited but reliable field data collected at the mamirauá sustainable development reserve (msdr) in the brazilian amazonian region.

Abstract: buriti (mauritia flexuosa l.), a typical fruit from the northeast and center-west amazon of brazil, is used in many regional dishes. it is considered an excellent source of carotenoids that are a vitamin precursors, showing a majority of β-carotene. it also presents ascorbic acid and sugar contents. many studies have indicated that the lack of a vitamin is the main cause of night blindness and xerophthalmia. also, ascorbic acid deficiency may cause scorbutic disease. the use of food irradiation is growing and represents an economic benefit to agriculture through the reduction of post-harvesting losses while maintaining food nutritional quality. in this study, buriti in natura was treated with gamma irradiation with doses of 0.5 kgy and 1.0 kgy. the objective was to evaluate the irradiation effects on total carotenoids, ascorbic acid and sugars concentrations of buriti. the fruit was evaluated through the total carotenoids analysis, by spectrophotometry, and the carotenoids (α and β-carotene and lutein), ascorbic acid and sugars were determined by high performance liquid chromatography (hplc). the results showed that buriti is an excellent source of total carotenoids (44600 μg/100g). the irradiation of buriti with the dose of 0.5 kgy did not significantly change carotenoids and sugars contents. however, there was a reduction of ascorbic acid concentration with an increase of the dose, which may have been caused by irradiation or by intrinsic and extrinsic factors that alter ascorbic acid stability in food, converting ascorbic to dehydroascorbic acid, while keeping the c vitamin active form.
