Jornal da Sociedade Brasileira de Fonoaudiologia , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S2179-64912011000200013
Abstract: purpose: to establish the occurrence of dysphonic children and to relate data from auditory-perceptive, acoustic and vocal self-perception analyses of dysphonic and non-dysphonic children. methods: participants were 70 children, 37 female and 33 male, with ages ranging from 6 to 10 years. the sustained emission of the vowel /a/ was recorded, and children replied to the question "what do you think of your voice?".after that, the auditory-perceptive analysis of their voices was carried out, based on the parameters of the grbasi scale. the acoustic analysis was also conducted, considering the following measures: fundamental frequency, frequency and amplitude perturbation quotient, and harmonic-to-noise ratio. the self-perception analysis of the subjects' voices was based on content analysis. data were statistically analyzed. results: the occurrence of dysphonic children was 37.14%. breathiness was the most common vocal quality among dysphonic children, followed by roughness, which was also common. the acoustic measures frequency and amplitude perturbation quotient and harmonic-to-noise ration were higher among dysphonic children. however, these measures were similar between children that had positive self-perception and those with negative self-perception. negative self-perception was more frequent among dysphonic children. conclusion: the occurrence of dysphonia in the studied group was 37.14%. dysphonic children present negative self-perception of their voices, voice quality predominantly rough and/or breathy, and altered acoustic measures, when compared to non-dysphonic children.
O desenvolvimento sustentável em unidade de conserva??o: a "naturaliza??o" do social

Revista Brasileira de Ciências Sociais , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-69092005000300004
Abstract: the notion of sustainable development is employed by governmental and non-governmental organizations (ngos) to solve problems related to human occupation in conservation units. in these areas there are problems between development and conservation. it arouses debates around the notion of sustainable development. this paper analyses the development proposals - which includes conservation - to the environmental protection area of guaraque?aba, located in the north of the state of paraná, working on some elements that concern social scientists. among these elements, we take notice that in the proposals to solve environmental problems caused by local agriculture, there is a process of naturalization of the society.

Abstract: The environmental conservation employed within the limits of the Guaraque aba′s APA (Conservation Area Zone), northern littoral of the state of Paraná, demanded from conservationists′ activists a reflection upon how to deal with the small-scale agriculture, that has been developed for the most part by populations who have been living there for many years. Even that all of the solutions have been presented to them in terms of conservation, they have suffered changes during the process of protection that was estabilished there. This paper analyses the relation between the solutions proposed from 1981 to 2000 and the different participants involved in the process of conservation inside the APA.
Ritual as Indicative as of code as Values Ritual as Indicative as of code as Values

Abstract: Undoubtedly, the ritualistic connotation of Hemingway's work, and particularly of his short stories in IN OUR TIME, is very strong and worth analysing. Hemingway has even been criticized for his use of an unvarying code, his action almost always circling about ordeals, with triumphs and defeats in the bullring, the battlefield, the trout stream or other male proving grounds, where great value is placed on raw physical courage. Abstract: This study aimed to investigate the frequency of homologous antibodies of IgG class against Borrelia burgdorferi in buffaloes in the state of Pará, Brazil. Blood serum samples from 491 buffaloes were analyzed by means of the indirect ELISA test, using crude antigen produced from a cultivar of the North American strain G39/40 of B. burgdorferi. There were 412 positive samples (83.91%), and there was no statistically significant difference in the proportions of positive animals between the 81.69% (232/284) originating from Marajó Island and the 86.96% (180/207) from the continental area of the state of Pará. In all the municipalities studied, the frequency of positive findings of antibodies against B. burgdorferi among the animals ranged from 63.6% to 92.9%. The high numbers of seropositive animals can be explained by the frequent presence of the tick Rhipicephalus (Boophilus)microplus, and by the possible existence of spirochetes of the genus Borrelia infecting buffaloes in the region studied, although specific studies are needed to confirm this relationship. These factors suggest that a cross-reaction exists between the North American strain G39/40 of B. burgdorferi, which is used as an antigenic substrate, and the species of Borrelia spp. that possibly infects buffaloes in the state of Pará.

Abstract: According to the social-historical theory, interaction between individuals plays a major role in building the human being. It is through such interpersonal relationships that the individual’s psychological development takes place. Therefore, in school education, interaction with teacher and with classmates is essential; in addition, their mediation along the educational process is an extremely relevant factor to achieve goals. Mediation also includes use of tools and signs in the social context, enabling the development of superior psychological processes. This research was carried out using the social-historical theory as theoretical background and considering that digital technologies enable adequate spaces to perform investigation activities. It was performed with a group of students Mathematics teachers and aimed at analyzing a learning situation about Triangle Similarity Cases using a Dynamic Geometry software program. The importance of mediation (tools, teacher, classmates) in knowledge building was evaluated by performing investigative activities aided by the software. Qualitative research, through case study, was chosen and three data collection techniques were used: participant observation, questionnaire and semi-structured interview. Research-related tasks were divided into three stages: preparation; de velopment and analysis of collected data, relating them with the adopted theoretical background. Considering all that was observed and collected through questionnaires and interview, it is possible to state that mediation played an important role during software activities.

Abstract: vitamin a is particularly important during the critical periods of growth, proliferation and development of tissues such as pregnancy, neonatal period and childhood. this study aims to evaluate the influence of maternal variables such as gestational age and parity, on the levels of retinol in colostrum and verify that the concentration of vitamin a in the colostrum of those mothers provides the recommended amount of this micronutrient for newborns. we recruited 84 healthy pregnant women attended at a brazilian public hospital. retinol concentrations in colostrum were analyzed by high performance liquid chromatography. the retinol in colostrum from mothers at term (n = 49) and preterm (n = 35) showed values of 111.3 ± 12.4 μg/dl and 79.2 ± 10.6 μg/dl ( p <0.0001), respectively, and retinol concentration in colostrum from primiparous (n = 40) (82.5 ± 8.8 μg/dl) and multiparous (n = 44) (116.9 ± 10.3 μg/dl) was also statistically different (p <0.0001). retinol levels in colostrum at term and those whose mothers had one or more than one child in this study meet the needs of the child (400 μg retinol/day). however, levels of retinol in colostrum of preterm infants are not consistent with the recommendations of the dri for premature infants, which is 420 μg retinol/day. these results demonstrate the need to supplement with vitamin a preterm mothers to ensure an adequate supply of this vitamin to the newborn.
