Abstract: Introduction: Oxygen therapy consists in a modality of treatment in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) for the mainteance of oxygen arterial saturation (SpO2) above 90%. In patients with a reduction in SpO2 during exercise, oxygen supplementation during the effort improves exercise tolerance. Objective: The purpose of this study is to evaluate, through a literature review, the effects of oxygen supplementation in patients with non-hypoxemic COPD during rest on exercise tolerance, SpO2 and dyspnea. Materials and Methods: We have searched the data bank Medline/Pubmed and Scielo and selected randomized, controlled trials, from 1996 to 2007, written in Portuguese or English. All papers where the keywords COPD, oxygen, exercise and rehabilitation were present in the title or the abstract were selected. Results: From 10 studies that have used oxygen during effort in non-hypoxemic patients in rest situation, 7 papers showed beneficial effects, which indicates that oxygen during exercise can help patients with COPD in improving their performance during exercise and contribute to the maintenance or improvement of the SpO2. There was no significant improvement when dyspnea was analyzed. The use of O2 after and/or before exercise or during a pulmonary rehabilitation program seems not to cause any additional effescts. Conclusions: Oxygen supplementation during exercise in rest non-hypoxemic COPD patients promotes the maintenance or improvement of SpO2, as well as improves performance during exercise.

Abstract: This study aims at discussing the implementation of Problem Based Learning (PBL) in activities carried out in a first grade high school class. The analysis of soil was used as a didactic tool capable of facilitating student teaching and learning, and as a way for understanding the environment that surrounds them, aiming at achieving three main goals: to acquire knowledge, to develop skills, and attitudes. During the activities,?it was noticed a great student involvement with the activities, especially in the practical ones. In that sense, it was concluded that it is important to work with active methodologies, which are able to increase interest and motivation in the students. Thus, through a thematic approach,?it is possible to raise students’ critical awareness.

Abstract: background: the aim was to verify the integration of the castor oil plant polyurethane, applied in the form of handmade biomass, as a biological alternative substitute of the autogenous bone graft in rabbits. methods: twenty rabbits (new zealand) were submitted to a standard femoral condilar defect, with dimensions of 6x10mm, and ramdomly assigned for implantation of autogenous bone graft in one side and castor oil plant polyurethane in the other. the animals were observed for a period of 45 and 90 days. evaluation of the macro and microscopic studies were analysed with statistical tests (p < 0.05). results: macroscopic analysis showed that the presence of femoral fractures were not significant in both groups. in all autogenous bone grafts there were the presence of cortical healing (p = 0.0010), at 45 and at 90 days, while in the femurs that received polyurethane, this healing was absent at 45 days. regarding the presence of ripe bone in the transition area between the implant and the receiving bone, the microscopic observation showed that it was completely absent, at 45 days. at 90 days, it was present in all animals that received autogenous bone graft (p = 0.0010) and in none of those who received polyurethane of castor oil plant, showing the presence of only immature bone. conclusion: castor oil plant polyurethane becomes complete to the receiving bone in a slower fashion than autogenous bone graft. however the proposal for the use of a handmade biomass to fill out the bone flaw, was shown feasible and promising in the research of the castor oil plant polymer as biological bone substitute.

Abstract: The landscape study in archaeology presumes the use of differentiated categories in different knowledge areas, having as central focus the comprehension of the existing relations between humans and yours environments. This is signify to discuss of the operation shapes of the relations between culture and environment in a diachronic scale under a holistic and systemic perspective, in other words, the observation and explanation of the phenomena or events of one all, coordinated to each other, so that they act like an organized structure. This paper, of theoretical study, it has as preoccupation presents the different paradigms in which the landscape concept has been used in archaeology, of the same way it has been enabling the enlargement of archaeological site notion. It is known that humans walking through the environments in which they live, in which perceptions and concepts are established by means of the cognitive processes and, consequently, cultural processes. In this case the landscape is comprehended as a social construction, having like theoretical base the concepts of établissement (settlement) by Marcel Mauss; Place by Lewis R. Binford and Persistent Places by Sarah Schalanger.
